Buyers were infatuated with the fully redesigned second-generation Pontiac Trans Am when it arrived in the middle of the 1970 model season. This particular 1971 example, built during the first full season of this body style's production, has been given a professional rotisserie restoration and retains its original trim tag. It has PHS documentation which describes this vehicle as being delivered new to the Pontiac engineering department and was a factory company car. It has a functional Shaker hood scoop, front air dam and spoilers, fender air extractors and a rear spoiler. There is a 455 H.O. engine with 335 horsepower.
Compression was lowered in 1971 to allow the use of regular gasoline, and the engine gained a nodular-iron crankshaft retained by 4-bolt main caps, cast-aluminum pistons, round exhaust port heads, an aluminum 4-barrel intake manifold and free-flowing exhaust manifolds. This engine in this Pontiac is backed by a Turbo Hydra-Matic 400 3-speed automatic. There is factory air conditioning, and a 3.08 Safe-T-Track limited-slip differential.
This car was built at the Norwood plant and finished with Lucerne Blue paint with associated black and white graphic accents and a deluxe black interior. The interior contains high-back bucket seats, Rally gauges including an integrated 8,000 RPM tachometer and clock, a 160 MPH speedometer and small round-face readouts for the coolant temp, oil pressure, fuel level and voltmeter. There is a padded three-spoke Formula steering wheel, an AM/FM stereo, metallic dash overlay, Soft Ray-tinted glass, and center console with shifter. On the outside, there are F60-15 Goodyear Polyglas tires, Rally II wheels, factory trim rings, and a chrome dual exhaust system.By Daniel Vaughan | Oct 2021
