Default 99 repainted torch red? vs original 02 torch red

Okay i bought my car last year but found out it was originally arctic white and was repainted red after purchasing it. They had left the gas cap area under white is the only spot i see. Someone i know purchased an 02 torch red corvette in attempt to rebuild with clean title. His still had the build code sheet in the front frame rail when said factory paint code torch red. Is a lower miles car and could have been garage kept but one is factory torch red mine is repainted re does look to be torch red the paint looks the same thru a flashlight at night when it goes thru the clear coat. Can anyone tell the difference between the 02 torch red gas cap and repainted red 99 corvette. When i bought the car he told me he had replaced the door not sure if he meant drivers side or passenger but the red is slightly off on one perhaps lower miles or fresh paint job.

One idea is to swap everything from the rebuilt 99 to the 02 including harness to have a clean title 02 corvette that had HUD but i feel like id run into problems and best to rebuild the 02 as another vehicle just needs control arms, steering column, pcm, door regulators fenders and a bumper.

Heres some better photos. My is an aftermarket paint job torch red the other is an original 02 torch red corvette well kept. Im deciding if its worth swapping the rear bumper which is in perfect condition no paint chips but is the same factory red as the fuel door. My bumper is in decent condition. You think the gas cap stands out and if its worth swapping the perfect factory 02 torch red bumper on my 99. Heres some more pics of the fuel door from the 02 torch red car. Look the same to me just mine being an aftermarket paint job. Could run up to PPG or local auto paint place and have them look at the fuel door and quarter panel decide which red it is. I also have the 02 torch red targa top. I can wax it up and put it on my 99 to see if it matches well enough or not before swapping bumpers. Also a buddy has a better torch red hood that is perfect not paint chips or broken corner that i may try to put on. There is the door the previous owner replaced it with a late 97 mnaufactured door not sure if that means its a 98 door or 97 according to its vin tag.

Anyway to look up the vin off the door and find the paint color code by for that specific door? If anyone has free carfax or paid subscription unlimited they could use that tells the vins paint code or even the doors vehicle history would be great. I was thinking of getting the ac delco torch red half blended clear coat brush and touching up the arctic white they didnt paint when repainting the whole car. Thats the only part that is left white.

If I am understanding what you are asking correctly, my opinion is that the “real” original torch red looks better. It is darker and richer. My Z 06 is torch red. Your spray over paint job does not look torch red in the photos (to me). It is a lighter color.

So what is your opinion or how do i go about finding the correct color red to touch up blemishes? Go to a local paint store PPG paints will paint match it? Thats what autozone had told me to take the car up there when i told them it was an aftermarket paint job. They're pretty close but it is hard to tell. He had told me he had replaced a door when i bought the car last year not sure if drivers side or passenger but does slightly look offset nothing terrible. The drivers door is a 98 door by the vin tag which looks to be original and different vin plus has all the door tags and fully painted mine is a 99.

I use Duplicolor touch up paint. https://www.duplicolor.com/wp-conten...CA-Final-1.pdf for my Vette.

I recommend going to autozone or any other automotive store and looking at their Duplicolor stock. The color of the paint is the color of the can caps. Find the color that most closely matches your car.

You know its hard to tell on the shelf at autozone i tried that already. Will ppg paints bring a paint specialist outside to the car to find the specific paint code or does anyone know a place that will and wont charge anything? Touching up the minor rock chips looks worse when the paint doesnt match.

It seems there are several Torch Red paint codes, 70, 70U, 9075, GKZ, WA9075. https://www.automotivetouchup.com/to...2002/corvette/
