Start your engines! New exhibition features fleet of incredible cars owned by Metallica frontman James Hetfield - including a restored 1934 Packard and a custom-made hot rod built by the rocker

A collection of custom hot rods owned by Metallica frontman James Hetfield will be displayed to the public for the very first time in an exhibition set to open in Los Angeles on Friday. One of the most highly anticipated vehicles on display is the Black Pearl (pictured) ' which was built by the rocker from scratch with custom car designer Rick Dore'

Hetfield, 56, is a lifelong car enthusiast and has long harbored a passion for buying and restoring vintage vehicles. The Metallica frontman is set to appear at the exhibition's opening on Friday, where he will take part in a 'fireside chat'. He is pictured on stage last November 

The Black Pearl (pictured) won Mother's Custom of the Year Award in 2014, and features '375 horsepower Ford V8 engine, a Mustang suspension, and the breaking system from a Ford Explorer', according to Rolling Stone.

The Black Peal (pictured) was 'heavily influenced by the full rounded contours of European and American cars of the 1930s and 1940s'. The vehicle is finished off with beige leather interior and gold detailing across the side car doors 

Hetfield's 1953 Buick Skylark, dubbed 'Skyscraper', is another of the 10 vehicles set to be exhibited at Peterson Automotive Gallery. The car has been immaculately restored and painted in an eye-catching lilac color

Visitors will be able to get up close to the vehicles to inspect the engines beneath the bonnet. The intricate detail of the Buick Skylark's engine is pictured in an image released by Peterson Automotive Gallery

The new exhibition includes several of Hetfield's hot rods which date back to the 1930s, including this 1937 Ford named 'Iron Fist'. Hot Cars said the vehicle is' the perfect example of how to pull off the bare metal look correctly, and it looks ridiculously cool'

Hetfield's 1937 Lincoln Zephyr is pictured. The two-door car was considered a luxury model upon its release in the United States more than eight decades ago, and Hetfield has made sure to restore the car to its full opulence, with a coating of fire engine red paint and contrasting whitewall tires. The interior features plush leather seats 

This 1956 Ford F-100 is sure to be a favorite with viewers. Nicknamed 'Str8 Edge' the vehicle has been given a complete hot rod makeover. The restoration was completed in 2010, with Scott Mugford helping to reinvent the vehicle. He told Truck Trend in 2010 that Hetfield bought the vintage car 'from some old guy on the internet' before the pair spent years working to give the car its sleek makeover 

Mugford told Truck Trend about Hetfield and the F-100: What you have to understand about James and his truck is that he will actually drive this thing. For him, his financial freedom means he just gets to enjoy it the way he always wanted, which is great. And we know he'll get in the thing and go 90 mph. He uses his stuff for sure and we went into the project knowing this.'

Hetfield's 1936 Auburn Speedster, named Slowburn, is pictured. Hetfield reportedly added a Chevy Small Block V8 engine to rev up the vehicle meaning that, in addition to its stunning aesthetics, 'it's also pretty damn fast'.  The car is one of several dating back to the 1930s included in Reclaimed Rust: The James Hetfield Collection

The Metallica rocker's 1961 Lincoln Continental is pictured. The customized vehicle has had its body lowered closer to the ground and has been given a coating of glossy black paint. The interior of the car is all-black, with the flooring and leather seating specially designed to compliment its cool exterior 

Hetfield's 1934 Packard is another of the ten vehicles included in the collection. The car was first manufactured 86 years ago, but looks startlingly modern following its extensive makeover

Like he did with Black Pearl, Rick Dore also helped to restore the Packard to its former glory. Back in 2016, the vehicle was exhibited at The Quail Motorsports Gathering during Monterey Car Week in California. It's engine is pictured 

This 1932 Ford Roadster is the oldest vehicle set to be displayed in the exhibition. The 88-year-old car is known as 'Black Jack'. Built by Josh Mills in Marietta, Georgia, the car is a convertible which features removable top which was was designed and upholstered by Mills and his small team. 

Mills has given the Roadster a brown leather interior which calls to mind backdoor saloons from the Prohibition era when the vehicle was originally built
