  • Overview

A black 2022 Chevy Trailblazer is shown angled left.

Do you remember the classic Chevy S-10 Blazer from the 1990s? Maybe you do, or maybe you’re not quite old enough to recall, but the original TrailBlazer debuted as one of the S-10 Blazer’s trims. The trim itself performed so well that Chevy decided to grant the TrailBlazer its own model. However, the TrailBlazer was soon discontinued from the lineup, at least until 2021, when Chevy brought the Trailblazer back as a model that slots in between the Trax and the Equinox in terms of size, filling a hole in the lineup. The 2022 Chevy Trailblazer is a crossover that pays tribute to its classic SUV namesake.

Its sporty style and peppy drive modes make it the perfect compact SUV for weekend adventures and casual commuting. There are four different available trims on this model, each bringing it a bit more to the table. Whether you’re looking for a cheap yet appealing ride, an off-road capable crossover, or something sporty, there’s an option here for you. We’re excited to show you what each trim level offers so that you can find your ideal 2022 Chevy Trailblazer model.

  • Exterior

This Subcompact Is Packed With Style

Important exterior features to consider are aesthetics, customization, and convenience. The great news is that the 2022 Trailblazer hits on all these main points. One of the 2022 Chevy Trailblazer’s most appealing features is its exterior color variety. The first three trims come in up to eight different colors, while the highest trim only comes in six. However, the ACTIV and RS trims include dual-tone coat option, and the highest RS trim includes a unique teal color called “Oasis Blue.” Top-half color options include black, white, bronze, and crimson, which pair with any of the standard color options such as Blue Glow Metallic, Satin Steel Metallic, and Vivid Orange Metallic, depending on the trim chosen.

You’ll also get to choose from available 17-inch and 18-inch wheel options in silver or black, and even a blackout package that includes a black grille, black rear and front fascias, black roof rails, and much more. Deep tinted glass comes standard on all but the base-level L trim, and all trim levels include options for front and rear splash guards. The hands-free power liftgate and heated power exterior mirrors are available on every trim except the L trim as well for easier cargo access.

All trim levels get a standard lockable gas cap and an option for a keyless entry pad that uses a special security code in place of your key. LED fog lights are standard across trims minus the L, and so is an optional sunroof feature. In short, you’ll get standard exterior features on the L trim for an affordable price. However, if you want to upgrade for more customization and luxurious exterior features, you’ll want to choose from one of the higher three trims.

  • Performance

    Two Engines for Customizable Performance

All four Trailblazer trims are not the same when it comes to performance. The lower two models come with a 1.2-liter 3-cylinder engine. This spunky little engine produces 137 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque and only comes in front-wheel drive. For a little more pep in your step, upgrade to the ACTIV and RS trims to get the 1.3-liter 3-cylinder option as standard, which will give you 155 horsepower and 174 lb-ft of torque. This engine also comes paired with either front-wheel or all-wheel drive. No matter which engine or drivetrain you choose, the 2022 Chevy Trailblazer is easy on the fuel tank.

If you want to be able to tackle a little more than your morning commute, the ACTIV trim is designed for minor off-roading. While you don’t want to take it to hardcore off-roading trails, think of it as an adventure vehicle that’s perfect for hauling kayaks and taking camping. When you visit the wilderness, the ACTIV trim’s off-road suspension package makes it easier to tackle bumps, potholes, and gravel, and its sport-terrain tires have better overall performance both on the pavement and along the dirt backroads.

Start and stop engines are standard across all Trailblazer trims, adding to the fuel economy savings. With the 1.3-liter engine, you will get an estimated 29 MPG in the city and 33 MPG on the highway with the front-wheel drive. Similarly, the 1.2-liter engine with front-wheel drive gets an estimated 29 MPG in the city and 31 MPG on the highway.

    Technology

There’s no reason to pay extra for features that have become the new norm. That’s why Chevy is proud to include audio streaming on the 2022 Chevy Trailblazer at no added cost. Enjoy Apple CarPlay and Android Audio music and podcast streaming no matter what trim level you choose. The same goes for voice activation and basic Bluetooth connectivity.

If you’re feeling fancy, the 2022 Trailblazer includes options for wireless device charging and built-in Alexa connectivity as well. From here, you can create lists via voice activation, turn the lights off at your house even when you’re miles away, and ask Alexa to play your favorite playlist. Speaking of music, you’ll also get standard SiriusXM radio compatibility regardless of trim level. The 2022 Chevy Trailblazer includes all the important latest tech features and add-on options on the market.

  • Safety

Standard safety features are one of the most important aspects to look for when buying a brand new vehicle. This is an area that Chevy does excellent in. The 2022 Chevy Trailblazer includes Chevy’s Standard Safety Assist suite, which comes with six driver assist features at no added cost. These features include Forward Collision Alert, Automatic Braking, Front Pedestrian Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, a Following Distance Indicator, and IntelliBeam Auto High Beam Assist. Let’s go over each of these in detail.

    Chevy Safety Assist Features

First off, thanks to sensors, Forward Collision Warning alerts drivers when a potential collision is detected. It pairs with Automatic Emergency Braking to stop the vehicle quicker than the driver could on their own. Next, we’ve got Front Pedestrian Braking, which acts the same way but with people rather than vehicles or objects.

Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning will notify drivers when they begin to lane drift, and it can redirect you back into the correct lane with gentle steering nudges, keeping you safe and centered. The Following Distance Indicator is there to prevent you from tailgating other vehicles, which in turn helps to prevent rear-end collisions and multi-car pileup accidents. Finally, IntelliBeam High Beam Assist automatically dims your high beam lights when another vehicle approaches to prevent bright lighting. Plus, the 2022 Trailblazer has LED headlights, which create a brighter and safer nighttime driving experience.

Additional Standard and Available Safety Features

You also get standard Teen Driver Mode. This is GM’s trademark safety feature that is designed specifically for younger drivers. You can turn your teen out on the loose without worry, thanks to this monitoring system. Teen Driver Mode includes vehicle tracking, curfew setting, volume and speed limits, and even “report cards” that notify you of how safe your teen is driving when you’re not there to watch.

You can also add on additional features if preferred. These include Rear Cross Traffic Alert, which alerts you if a vehicle crosses behind you while you are backing up. There’s also an option to add Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert, which will let you know if there is a vehicle in your blind spot, so you don't accidentally hit them when changing lanes.

Rear Park Assist is another available feature for the 2022 Chevy, which works well with the standard Rear Backup Camera to alert drivers when they’re too close to an object when reversing. Speaking of the Rear Vision Camera, you can upgrade it to the HD version for a clearer and wider picture. It’s safe to say that the 2022 Chevy Trailblazer is packed with any safety features you could need.
