Both RAM trucks have powerful engines. The RAM 1500 can claim the best fuel economy of any full-size pickup. It earns 21 mpg city and 29 mpg highway. Both are matched to heavy-duty six-speed automatic transmissions.

What Are the Capabilities of the RAM 1500 and 2500?

The RAM 1500 has a maximum tow rating of 10,450 pounds, while the 2500 maximum is 17,950 pounds and has a maximum payload of 1,880 pounds, while the 2500 tops out at 3,610 pounds. Both trucks feature trailer sway control, which improves stability by braking individual truck wheels. Hill Start Assist keeps the truck from sliding backward when the driver is trying to move forward from a stop. An integrated hitch is always standard, making it easy to connect your trailer to either the 1500 or 2500. Since the RAM 2500 is built for the bigger hauls, the truck comes with a factory-installed rear axle cross member that’s ready for fifth-wheel or gooseneck hitch customization.
