Ford F-550 Super Duty EarthRoamer Is the Most Hardcore Camper Ever
This Ford F-550 Super Duty EarthRoamer isn’t just a full-blown camper, it’s also the coolest camper on earth.
Van life is a big deal these days are more and more people are looking to get out and explore the world. But whether it’s a van converted to a camper, a traditional camper, or some massive RV, this entire segment has enjoyed a boom thanks largely to the pandemic. But for us, there’s nothing we’d rather spend the night (or navigate a zombie apocalypse) in than this insane Ford F-550 Super Duty EarthRoamer that’s currently up for grabs over at Bring a Trailer.
This 2010 Ford F-550 Super Duty EarthRoamer was converted into the beast you see here by the company of the same name, which operates out of Dacono, Colorado. EarthRoamer gave this particular truck its XV-LT camper conversion, which goes a bit beyond just slapping a living space on the back of a chassis cab pickup.
On the outside, that means adding aftermarket bumpers with integrated lighting, winches in the front and rear, fender flares, LED lighting, a brush guard, mud flaps, side steps, and a set of 20-inch wheels wrapped with 335/80 Continental MPT 81 tires. Underneath, an air suspension provides a comfy and adjustable ride, while manually-locking hubs are present for tougher off-road conditions.
Inside the cabin, you’ll find a leather-trimmed interior with a Pioneer touchscreen and all the amenities a modern-day luxury pickup can provide. But the real story here is the living quarters, of course, which are packed with everything one needs to spend a few days on the road or in the wilderness. That includes a bed, a bathroom with a shower, and a kitchenette with a pantry, sink, refrigerator, and freezer.
Of course, a diesel engine powers this massive rig, in this case, Ford’s 6.4-liter Power Stroke V8. It sends power to either the rear or all four wheels via a five-speed automatic transmission and a dual-speed transfer case. As one might imagine, these awesome-looking rigs aren’t cheap, and cost hundreds of thousands of dollars new, depending on how they’re configured. Thus, it’s no surprise that this one has already crested the $150k mark, as of this writing, with some time to go before the hammer falls.
