I want to start a thread to track everything I’ve done on my project truck

Stats

5.0 L V8
125,000 original miles

bought online via auction it was a former city truck that happens to be in great shape

including the auction pictures up front for reference

What I’ve done as of 2-12-24

Mainly cleanup at this point to get an idea of what all I want to do to the vehicle. I will eventually get it painted, but I have a feeling that I want to take the bed off and change the fuel pumps and rear suspension before I paint anything. Overall, doesn’t have anything but surface rust on the underside.

work done:
- cleaned up engine
- cut out rust spots on body, sanded and primed to stop any further rust
- did a full tear down and put back together of the interior this weekend
- replaced (parts from LMC truck): broken air vent, sliding window lock, and new door sils (plastic piece)
- repaired the cracks and tears in the dash, painted the dash which turned out pretty good

Just cleaning-up the interior made a world of difference! Nice work. Looks like a nice project truck.

Wish I had a nickel for every time I've seen this:

Rust in the typical places. Looks to be a decent truck with a lot of life left.

Is there something wrong with both fuel pumps? If not, I would leave them alone.

No nothing wrong with them right now, I was just thinking that if I were going to have this thing painted (and I do want to change out the rear leaf springs and shocks) it wouldn't hurt to go ahead and change out the fuel pump and change the springs (both would be easier with the bed off)

Spending hundreds of dollars for each pump assembly when it isn’t broken seems like a waste of money. Not only that but chances are the aftermarket FDMs won’t be as good as what is in there now.

Subscribed…

I agree on the pumps/FDM, new Motorcraft are an NOS item now from what I can tell, and real expensive when you find them…

One thing I like - two tanks and pumps. Odds of both failing at the same time is pretty low.

Iirc, you were thinking about disassembly, maybe lifting it, in an other thread, still pondering? I kinda like the idea of a lifted yellow truck.. not many of those around. But don’t let me spend your money for you, lol!

Update on work completed:
1. added a leveling kit to the front
2. replaced front and rear shocks

Thinking about doing the leaf springs next - any value in upgrading to heavier springs?

Slowly but surely making progress - new tires upgraded to 31/10.5R15s. Next step is bodywork and paint.
