Experience in the game

Danielle Locklin is the owner of this beautiful and very aggressive 1934 closed-cab pickup. While thinking of what direction to go with for her truck, she came upon the work of Jason Graham and his shop. “I had seen several of Jason’s prior builds and loved the somewhat-traditional style of his hot rods—but mostly the twist he adds to that tradition.”

Just a couple things...

So, the two got together a few years ago and talked about what she'd like to see from the finished product. However, from what Danielle had seen from all of Graham's work, she gave him the freedom to create with just two stipulations: it had to be a shade of blue and have pockets in the door to hold her cell phone.

Knocking back the judges

Ten months from the time Danielle had the closed-cab sent to Tennessee, she finally got to see the end results. “I was blown away … I even cried a little I was so happy,” she said. The classic was delivered to her outside Cobo Hall and actually competed in the 2018 Detroit Autorama. No surprise to anyone looking at this awesome build, it went on to win the 2018 Goodguys Truck of the Year award.

So how does that work?

The fun thing about putting your faith in someone to do a task for you is that little surprises will be waiting for you. One such surprise was the exposed rear suspension that's sitting atop the bed floor. Using a Winters quick-change with Posies quarter-elliptic springs, Neely Precision machined the custom wishbone and trailing arms to locate it.

So clean and crisp

The frame of the closed-cab is custom built and under the bespoke hood is an Inglese stacked 347 small-block from Blueprint engines. Power is channeled through a TREMEC 5-speed transmission.

Closed cab for the win

On the inside of the cabin, the interior is dressed in distressed leather put together by Gil Vigil at Speed and Design. That blue shade of paint that was requested by Danielle is PPG Washinton Blue for those who are curious.
