Only Original Once

As the saying goes, a vehicle is only original once. And even though we love a nicely restored Ford pickup, there's just something about a well-kept original that tops pretty much everything. That certainly includes this beautiful and rather rare 1971 Ford F-250 4x4, which recently crossed the virtual block over at Hemmings' auction site.

Sparsely Optioned

According to the listing, this F-250 remained with its original owner for 43 years before changing hands. During that time, it lived its life in Colorado, obviously never seeing a salty road. Clearly, the original owner was looking for a work truck, however, as this pickup was ordered with few options. Except for the rare factory four-wheel-drive, that is.

Little to Note

Otherwise, there isn't much to note on this Custom trim F-250. The Calypso Coral and Wimbledon White body was repainted at one point in time, but no rust repair was reportedly needed. There is a chrome front bumper and some towing mirrors present, but that's pretty much it for the exterior.

Few Options

The interior remains in mostly original condition as well, with a mat on top of the dash to protect it and a CB radio for those long commutes. There are some optional amp and oil pressure gauges as well, but only a rubber floor mat and AM radio. Originally equipped with a vinyl bench seat, somebody replaced it with cloth at some point in time, too.

Granny Gear

There are a few cracks here and there, but the interior looks to be in pretty good shape given its age. Here you'll also notice the shifter, which is attached to an NP-435 four-speed manual transmission featuring the famous, ultra-low 6.69:1 first-gear ratio and the more traffic-friendly 3.34:1 second-gear ratio.

Couple of Changes

A very familiar and original 360 V8 resides under the hood of this F-250, one that was originally equipped with a 2-barrel carb and manual choke. The manual choke remains, but the previous owner replaced the carb with a 2-barrel Holley piece and added an Edelbrock air cleaner and Pertronix electronic ignition.

Interesting Combo

Overall, this old F-250 remains in pretty amazing condition and is said to run and drive very nicely. Regardless, it sold for a pretty low price of $14,000. But that's likely due to its few imperfections and lack of options. Personally, however, that's just the way we like our old Ford trucks.
