An F-150 with a lot more ability

The Ford F-150 is a hugely capable truck, especially in 4x4 configuration. There is not much that challenges it, but snow is trickier off-road terrain to conquer than others. To ensure that F-150 customers who like adventuring in the snowy wilderness can go everywhere they desire, the global specialist in big tire trucks has applied itself to the world's most popular pick-up.

A storied brand - with real history

Off-road enthusiasts should be familiar with the Arctic Truck brand. In one of the world's harshest environments, Iceland, the locals started upgrading their trucks to deal with frigid conditions. This is how Iceland's Arctic Trucks started way back in the late 1980s. Today the company has offices and design centers in the UK, Norway, and Middle-East, where it offers customers big tire trucks and SUVs. For American customers, the F-150 is an obvious candidate for the Arctic Trucks upgrade.

To explore without limits

The Arctic Trucks design objective is to produce an off-road vehicle that can conquer a lot more terrain than any factory version. Ford fans have an option of an Arctic Trucks F-350 or F-150, but the more agile latter platform has thus far been ignored. Not anymore. Arctic Trucks have now applied themselves to the F-150 with a fantastic upgrade kit.

Big rubber rolls over anything

Huge Nokian off-road tires are an anchor feature of all the Arctic Trucks products. These tires are proven to provide great flotation on snow and be run at very low air pressures, without degrading performance. For the Arctic Trucks F-150, there are huge 44-inch tires that create huge rollover ability in rocky terrain - and superb handling in snow.

Custom fenders for huge tires

The packaging is always an issue when huge tires are fitted to production trucks. Arctic Trucks is required to fabricate many custom body panels, such as fenders, to create adequate clearance for its massive wheel and tire combinations. With the F-150, they have replaced the standard front fenders, with their own design, which cuts much higher into the truck's side panels.

Custom flaps to save the bodywork

The custom fenders are fitted to the rear axle wheel arches too. It is not merely a question of creating rolling room for those 44-inch tires, but also sufficient vertical space and clearance when the terrain becomes challenging and the suspension compresses. Arctic Trucks also fits its own special mudflap design, to manage the terrain debris that those huge Hakkapeliita model tires can fling rearwards.

Lighting upgrade for those white-out conditions

The Arctic Trucks F-150 AT44 uses Ford's Lariat trim as its platform. This allows for comfort features that become critical in the terrain that this truck is designed for. Heated seats might be a nice-to-have for most, but in the arctic, it becomes an absolute necessity. In the dim lighting conditions of the arctic or any snow region, stronger illumination is required. To this end, Arctic Trucks add additional LED lighting pods, mounted in each corner of the front bumper.
