Canadian Chrome: New Scottish Blue 1969 Pontiac Beaumont
A nice shot I took at a recent local outdoor car show. ^__^
You're looking at a 1969 Pontiac Beaumont Sport Coupe in a most attractive shade that Pontiac's 1969 colour chart called "Marina Blue". A Pontiac Beaumont, my American friends may be wondering?
Another quirky cross-border U.S./Canadian hybrid, the Beaumont was rather like a Canadian version of the American Chevrolet Chevelle. For years, Canadian Pontiacs not only had uniquely Canuckian model names, but distinct identities from their south-of-the-border cousins. The Parisienne was a downmarket counterpart to the American Bonneville, and the Acadian was an even plainer Nova, while the Laurentian was fancier than the U.S. Gran Ville. Interestingly, GM Canada never offered a homemade version of two of Pontiac's most esteemed cars from this era: the Grand Prix and the GTO.
I love how the Nova Scotia plate harmonizes with the car -- the blue, red and gold not only goes with the car's colour, but even with the red and gold crest above it. Incidentally, Nova Scotia is Latin for "New Scotland", which to my knowledge makes Nova Scotia the only place in the British Commonwealth with a Latin name.
A Crossfolf Camera Presentation. :)
