1975 Vintage Scarce Satin Nickel Colt Combat Commander in .38 Super
** Beautiful All-Original Example ** SOLD
Description: This beautiful Colt is one of the most desirable variations of the 70 Series Combat Commander pistols. The combination of the satin Nickel factory finish and .38 Super chambering is very scarce and sought-after. The Colt Combat Commander was introduced in 1971 and remained in production until 1980, a relatively short production run. The Combat Commander was offered in .45 ACP, 9mm Luger, and .38 Super, with the vast majority produced chambered in .45 ACP. This down-sized 1911 model featured a gloss blue or satin Nickel (scarce) finish, a 4.25" inch barrel, a steel frame with a full size grip, and all of the same controls as it's full-size 1911 brother. The Colt Combat Commander quickly proved to be an excellent weapon, both very well-made and reliable in an easier-to-carry size. This particular example is in excellent all-original condition overall, and has maybe been fired a handful of times since leaving the factory in 1975. The factory satin Nickel finish is still clean and bright, showing only some very minor handling/storage marks. None of these deductions detract much from the very clean and attractive look of this Colt. The bore is pristine and mirror-bright in this pistol, showing sharp lands and grooves in the rifling and no visible imperfections or erosion. The original checkered Walnut grips are like-new. Both sides are free from any cracks, chips, scratches, repairs, or visible wear. The checkering is still clean and crisp, and the silver Rampant Colt medallions are bright and clean on both sides. Both grips have clean screws with straight heads on them, and both grips are tight to the frame with no wiggle. The slide to frame fit on this Combat Commander is superb with no slop, and all of the controls on this pistol are in perfect working order. When worked by hand the action is slick and precise, and the barrel locks into battery perfectly with the slide forward. This Colt comes with it's original factory 9-round magazine, also in satin Nickel. We have no doubt that if the new owner chooses to shoot this Colt that it would function perfectly. This 1975-production satin Nickel Combat Commander in .38 Super would be an excellent addition to any Colt collection, and would be nearly impossible to upgrade. With all vintage Colt pistols chambered in .38 Super continuing to rapidly appreciate in value every year, this Combat Commander should continue to be an excellent long-term investment.
