Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser models have climbed in value in recent years, with auction prices approaching the unbelievable. While these trucks are renowned the world over for their go-anywhere capabilities, most examples were seen as disposable implements, thoroughly used up and then discarded in a nearby field with an optimistic "For Sale" scrawled across their windshields. This 1969 Toyota Land Cruiser for sale on Hemmings.com has undergone a thorough restoration and is reported to be in "factory specification" condition, down to the red seat belts, proper engine decals and orange cooling fan. It's got the same 3.8-liter inline-six engine it left the factory with in March of 1969, and can be had for far less than the cost of a full ground-up restoration on a tired example. From the seller's description:

This particularly immaculate example of a 1969 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ-40 4x4 has been completely restored to factory specifications, with only test miles. It retains the original colors and matching numbers F - engine. This FJ-40 was built in March of 1969, and spent most of its life in Northern California.

A comprehensive restoration was performed and finished in 2012. The cost of the restoration exceeds common sense. A laundry list of NOS parts were used on this truck. The entire vehicle was taken down to bare metal, including the frame and all suspension components. It was painted in its original colors of Olympus White with Cygnus White roof. The paint is a single stage PPG product. Single stage was used in keeping the theme of what Toyota originally used with FJ40s going down the assembly line. It sits on all factory wheels painted in the correct Toyota Grey with brand new BFG all-terrains that are 30/9.50/15.

The new exterior is complimented with a new white interior with grey upholstery. It features a lot of correct equipment that you don't see very often in other FJ-40s, such as the red seat belts. The interior of these vehicles have plenty of room and offer rear fold down seats for passengers. The engine compartment is very detailed and home to the original F-Code engine. The engine starts and runs excellent. All of the proper decals are on the air cleaner, valve cover and radiator. It even has the orange fan blade, which often gets overlooked in many restorations. The engine is coupled with a 3-speed transmission, which shifts smoothly. A recent front end alignment was performed at a Toyota dealership and it tracks well on the open road. The undercarriage is nicely detailed to OEM Toyota specifications.

Mazda Miata Could Have Competition: Toyota is Going Full Send with its S-FR Sports Car
    Toyota

Toyota is pulling out all the stops to compete with the likes of affordable sports cars like the Mazda Miata. The automaker reportedly plans to put the S-FR concept car, originally debuted in 2015, into production. With potential release dates slated for early-2026 or early-2027, perhaps Miata may not always be the answer.

A new report out of Japan confirmed that the Toyota S-FR concept, first seen at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show, will hit the market to challenge the entry-level sports car segment. Forbes backs up this claim via its print edition of Best Car. According to the report, the Toyota S-FR will be produced in partnership with Daihatsu, a wholly owned subsidiary of Toyota, and Suzuki, of which the Toyota Motor Corporation owns 4.94 percent.

Will Toyota Revive its Hot Hatch Starlet as a Front-Wheel Drive GR?
    Toyota

JDM fans rejoice: A recent report out of Japan states that Toyota could be adding to its GR lineup with a front-wheel drive Toyota Starlet hatchback. The reborn Toyota Starlet will reportedly join the ranks of the existing GR Supra, GR 86, GR Yaris, and GR Corolla models.

Built in partnership with Gazoo Racing, Toyota’s motorsport division, the new Starlet will reportedly be built as a rally-focused machine, which makes sense when you consider Toyota’s history in the Rally 4 class. The terrain-dominating Starlet hatchback would compete against Toyota’s rally rivals, such as the Ford Fiesta, Renault Clio, and Peugeot 208.
