Registry: 1969 Lotus Super Seven
Robet Franklin's 1969 Lotus Super Seven
|
Right hand drive British Lotus 7. Car assembled with new Series 3 frame in Auckland New Zealand in 1997. Toyota 4AGE engine installed with two Weber DCOE42 carbs at that time. About 160HP, 7800 RPM, 1130 lbs., 3.88 Ford Mk I Escort rear gears. Ford Cortina spindles and disc brakes. Very quick & excelent handling as expected from a Lotus. Anyone who thinks BMW is the "Ultimate Driving Machine" has not driven a Lotus. I first saw a Lotus 7 ad in Road & Track magazine about 1958 when I was 8 years old. It was $895.00 new on the dock in New York not assembled. I remember making plans to get one as soon as I got a job. It took longer than I planed...but was worth the years of looking and wishing. I had to go through 2 Bugeye, 1 spitfire, 2 TR6, 1 TD, 1 TF, 4 MGA, 2 MGC-GT, 2 MGB and 1 MGB-GT.
