The all-new GMC Acadia is bigger, roomier, and more powerful than its predecessor, with an expanded 3-row interior and a new turbo engine. Pricing starts at $43,995.

The GMC Acadia enters a new generation for the 2024 model year. It’s grown to the size of its corporate cousin, the Chevy Traverse, which yields a roomier 3-row interior with much more room than the outgoing model. The family-friendly Acadia has a new turbocharged engine under the hood that’s more powerful than the V6 in earlier models, and its upper trims are predictably luxurious. Also, we love to see the Super Cruise hands-free driving system as an option on most trims.

The new GMC Acadia competes on the bigger side of 3-row midsize SUVs against the Volkswagen Atlas, Toyota Grand Highlander, and its GM relatives, the Chevy Traverse and Buick Enclave. The 3-row Jeep Grand Cherokee L is another alternative.

What’s New?

The GMC Acadia is all-new for 2024. Following the footsteps of the mechanically similar Chevy Traverse, the new Acadia has grown with more interior space. GMC says the new Acadia offers almost 80% more cargo room behind the third row than the outgoing model. It also gets optional Super Cruise and a new turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with 328 horsepower.

2024 GMC Acadia Pricing

The 2024 GMC Acadia starts at $43,995. That’s for the base Elevation trim, including the factory-to-dealer destination charge. The rugged AT4 model begins at $51,395, and the fancy Denali trim starts at $55,695. On the Elevation and Denali models, AWD is a $2,000 option (it’s standard on AT4).

The starting price of the Acadia is a little high for a midsize 3-row SUV. Straddling the line between mainstream and luxury, its starting price is higher than the Ford Explorer, Kia Telluride, and Toyota Highlander but lower than the Lincoln Aviator, Acura MDX, and Lexus TX. Pricing is similar to the Jeep Grand Cherokee L and Toyota Grand Highlander.

2024 GMC Acadia MSRP
Acadia Elevation $43,995
Acadia AT4 $51,395
Acadia Denali $55,695

These are manufacturer’s suggested retail prices (MSRP) and include the $1,395 factory-to-dealer delivery fee (destination charge).

Before buying an Acadia, check the Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price to know what you should really pay. GMC Acadia resale value tends to be about average for the segment.

Power, Ride and Handling

The 2024 GMC Acadia is powered by a 328-horsepower turbocharged 4-cylinder engine matched with an 8-speed automatic transmission and front- or all-wheel drive. That’s 18 more horsepower than the optional V6 in the outgoing Acadia. On paper, this engine beats most of the competition’s base engines, and we expect it to give authoritative performance to the new Acadia.

The Super Cruise hands-free driving system is optional on all but the base trim of the Acadia. In our experience, Super Cruise makes highway driving almost effortless. With your eyes on the road and your hands off the wheel, Super Cruise keeps you in your lane at a safe distance from the car in front of you. It even does automatic lane-changing. GM has mapped over 400,000 miles of highways in North America for Super Cruise compatibility, more than any other hands-free diving system.

The AT4 model promises respectable off-road performance. With an Active Torque Control AWD system, an off-road-tuned suspension, and extra ride height, it should manage moderate off-roading while retaining on-road comfort.

Fuel Economy

The outgoing GMC Acadia gets up to 25 combined mpg with the standard 4-cylinder engine and 22 mpg with the optional V6. We expect the fuel economy rating of the new engine to be somewhere in between.

Roomy Interior

The outgoing GMC Acadia was like a downsized version of the Chevy Traverse and Buick Enclave. With the new generation, the Acadia has grown to the size of its bigger GM kin. The result is a much roomier 3-row interior with up to eight seats.

The new Acadia boasts 24% more maximum cargo space, 36% more space behind the second row, and a whopping 79% more cargo room behind the third row. This significant boost in interior space makes the new Acadia a more accommodating and almost minivan-like family vehicle.

Second-row captain’s chairs are optional on the base trim and standard on the rest of the lineup. The middle row of seats has a Smart Slide feature similar to what we’ve tested in the outgoing Acadia, which helps improve access to the third row.

The interior design of the Acadia speaks the GMC design language of rugged yet premium. Standard tech features include a 15-inch central touchscreen and an 11-inch digital gauge cluster. Premium options include a panoramic, “pillar-to-pillar” sunroof, laser-etched wood trim, perforated leather seats, and a 16-speaker Bose audio system.

Rugged Exterior

The bigger and bolder GMC Acadia has a classy aesthetic resembling the full-size Yukon. Its boxy shape works well, and its aesthetic can change slightly depending on the trim. The AT4 model has dark accents, red recovery hooks, a lifted ride height, and all-terrain tires, while the fancy Denali model has Galvano Silver accents and optional 22-inch wheels.

Our Favorite Features and Tech

Super Cruise
This optional hands-free driving system is the best of its kind. Enjoy nearly effortless highway driving with your eyes on the road and hands off the wheel on more than 400,000 miles of North American highways.

Rugged AT4 model
The Acadia AT4 has rugged capabilities and aesthetics while retaining its comfort and practicality. In addition to its unique appearance package, it has an Active Torque Control AWD system, an off-road-tuned suspension system, all-terrain tires, and a Terrain drive mode.

Luxurious Denali model
The GMC Acadia Denali rivals expensive SUVs from luxury brands with features like perforated leather seats, a head-up display, available 22-inch wheels, and a premium appearance package inside and out.

Standard 15-inch screen
The standard Premium GMC Infotainment System has a 15-inch screen with lovely graphics and a user-friendly, Google-based operating system. Convenient features like Google Maps and Google Assistant are built-in.

Safety tech
A few modern safety features that come standard with the Acadia include forward and reverse automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, and traffic sign recognition.

Smart Slide second-row seats
The Smart Slide second-row seats in the Acadia tilt and slide for easy access to the third row, even with child car seats installed.

Engine and Transmission

Power for the GMC Acadia comes from a 2.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine rated at 328 horsepower and 326 lb-ft of torque. Those performance specs are better than the segment average; standard engines in this class typically make less than 300 horsepower. Output is sent to the front or all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission.

The GMC Acadia has a maximum towing rating of 5,000 pounds, which is average for this class.

3-Year/36,000-Mile Warranty

The GMC Acadia is backed by a 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty and a 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty. GMC also throws in complimentary maintenance for your first visit.

Safety

The GMC Acadia boasts an impressive list of standard safety features, including forward and reverse automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, traffic sign recognition, and more. The outstanding Super Cruise hands-free highway driving system is available on all but the base trim.

KBB Vehicle Review and Rating Methodology

Our Expert Ratings come from hours of both driving and number crunching to make sure that you choose the best car for you. We comprehensively experience and analyze every new SUV, car, truck, or minivan for sale in the U.S. and compare it to its competitors. When all that dust settles, we have our ratings.

We require new ratings every time an all-new vehicle or a new generation of an existing vehicle comes out. Additionally, we reassess those ratings when a new-generation vehicle receives a mid-cycle refresh — basically, sprucing up a car in the middle of its product cycle (typically, around the 2-3 years mark) with a minor facelift, often with updates to features and technology.

Rather than pulling random numbers out of the air or off some meaningless checklist, KBB’s editors rank a vehicle to where it belongs in its class. Before any car earns its KBB rating, it must prove itself to be better (or worse) than the other cars it’s competing against as it tries to get you to spend your money buying or leasing.

Our editors drive and live with a given vehicle. We ask all the right questions about the interior, the exterior, the engine and powertrain, the ride and handling, the features, the comfort, and of course, about the price. Does it serve the purpose for which it was built? (Whether that purpose is commuting efficiently to and from work in the city, keeping your family safe, making you feel like you’ve made it to the top — or that you’re on your way — or making you feel like you’ve finally found just the right partner for your lifestyle.)

We take each vehicle we test through the mundane — parking, lane-changing, backing up, cargo space and loading — as well as the essential — acceleration, braking, handling, interior quiet and comfort, build quality, materials quality, reliability.
