When I took my first Oath of Office on 30 June 2011 during the United States Naval Academy’s Induction Day, I did not fathom growing into this version of who I am.
12 years later, as the US Navy’s 2023 distinguished mentor and advocate for uniformed women, I treasure the world’s greatest Sailors, the machines we operate, and the fingerprints they have left on my soul.
Thank you VADM Rick Cheeseman, Chief of Naval Personnel, for presenting the top honor of my career during the Sea Services Leadership Association’s JWLS.

My class celebrated the 40th anniversary of our I-Day last week. To a person, none of us had any idea on 6 July 1983 what the Navy would help us become, but we celebrated where the journey took us.

Navy Chiefs really are the backbone of the Navy. Junior enlisted rely on their technical expertise and guidance for professional development, but many don't realize officers require those same things from the Chief's Mess even more.
The Chief's Mess is absolutely necessary for the continuity of a strong, resilient Naval force - no successful chief, junior enlisted, or officer exists today without the influence and guidance of the Chief's Mess.
If you need something done right, give it to a Chief Petty Officer! Happy 131st birthday to the backbone of the #USNavy ⚓
On April 1, 1893, the rank of Chief Petty Officer as we know it today was officially established. CPOs hold significant importance as they are responsible for leadership, mentorship, and technical expertise within their specific field, and bridge the gap between junior enlisted Sailors and commissioned officers, providing crucial experience and guidance.
Thank you CPOs for being a foundational member of our Navy family! You are indispensable assets in all our naval operations! 🎉 #CPOBirthday
Interim Director General of the National Museum of the Royal Navy, passionate about historic ships & collections. I love connecting the past of the Royal Navy with its present and future - and seeing what happens!
Past and Present #2. Watch this great video with our Curator and submarine veterans talking about the transition from diesel submarines to the first nuclear boats. If the Resolution class of the 1960s felt different, what will they make of the Dreadnought Class when it arrives?
We are privileged to be able to speak with the military professionals who keep us safe, as part of our work delivering the new Dreadnought Class submarines for the Royal Navy.
Recently we met with staff and former submariners who serve as volunteer guides at The National Museum of the Royal Navy. It was fascinating to hear from them about their experiences on board, and to get their insights on the next generation of Dreadnought Class submarines that we're building.
You can watch the video below.

Today marks the 248th birthday of the U.S. Navy. The birth of this fleet initiated quite a debate in the Continental Congress. Samuel Chase, one of the Founding Fathers, firmly believed that maintaining a standing navy was “the maddest idea in the world.” The original Continental Navy was founded, dissolved, and has since evolved into today’s modern Navy, which stands at an impressive level of readiness. There are currently 335,187 active duty service members, 272,505 enlisted personnel, and 191,597 Navy civilians.
The US Navy has protected the country throughout its many wars. There are 27 National Medal of Honor recipients from the Navy buried or memorialized at ABMC hallowed sites.
“Non sibi sed patriae” – (“Not self, but country”) - Unofficial slogan of the U.S. Navy.

An inside look at what it's like on your first day at the United States Naval Academy.
A great video from Insider showing the experience for a new freshman, aka a "plebe," in the United States Navy. Induction Day, or "I-Day," marks the beginning of "Plebe Summer," a challenging six-week basic training program all future midshipmen are required to complete.
