Fort Lauderdale Fleet Services Ranked Among Top 5 in North America

Fort Lauderdale is the highest-ranked city in Broward County and one of just a few government agencies in Florida recognized on the list that includes commercial and government fleets.

The 100 Best Fleets competition was judged based on 12 Criteria for Excellence, all of which encompass the qualities of a high-performing fleet. The judging was heavily weighted on innovation and creativity in how fleets employ these qualities in their operations.

What Made Our Team Stand Out?

• Our diverse fleet of 1,732 assets traveled a combined 7,928,835 miles last year and consumed 1,284,355 gallons of fuel.
• Over the last 5 years, we have replaced more than 60% of the fleet with newer, more efficient vehicles. In the past year alone, we have had a 122,868 gallon reduction in fuel usage. In addition, we have brought our total lifecycle maintenance costs down more than 20% due to the newer vehicles.
• Our fleet is composed of 19.6% EVs and hybrids – up from 9.5% last year. Over the prior year, we have recognized a 11.4% reduction in fuel usage.
• Upgrades to LED lighting and hurricane impact windows in the facility have decreased energy use by more than 20%.
• Our bulk DEF pumps have led us to nearly eliminate purchasing DEF in plastic, non-recyclable containers thereby cutting down 100% amount of environmental waste.
• We have been able to study maintenance trends and failures to stay ahead. An example of this is studying oil sample analysis to foresee imminent major component malfunctions. We have also been retiring diesel trucks whenever possible and replacing with gasoline to reduce environmental impact.
• Our 2021 Fleet by the Numbers, an infographic series to document our achievements, showed improvements on 9 of 11 tracked metrics.
• We continue to be recognized with awards in both the top 100 Best Fleets and Green Fleet and we post banners with these accomplishments around the facility. We were also previously honored with the Above & Beyond Award from our GPS provider, Samsara.
