The 165 HR 14 PIRELLI CINTURATO CA67, the original fitment for this vehicle, is Longstone's recommended Alpha Romeo Alfetta tire. Michelin produces a 165 HR 14 Michelin XAS tire, which Alfa Romeo also used on some of their Alfetta cars. The Alfetta began with tube-type wheels, but later variants used tubeless wheels. See our Innertube Guides for the original Alfetta innertube fitments.

Before 1979, all Alfetta models were equipped with innertubes and tube-type tires. The Michelin 14D is the proper innertube for tires of this size.

Alfetta GTV Tires

The majority of Alfetta models came with 165 - R14 tires, although sporty variants came with larger low profile 185/70R14 tires. The 185/70 VR 14 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36 was standard equipment on vehicles such as the Alfetta GTV. The 185/70 R 14 Michelin XAS is another outstanding classic era tire. This was also a tire that Alfa used on some of their cars at the time, offering superb amounts of grip.

Alfa Romeo GTV 2.0 and GTV6 were equipped with 195/70VR14 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36 tires in 1980, sadly this size is unavailable, but We hope to have a production of the 195/70VR14 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36 made this year (2023), but in the meantime a 185/70 VR 14 will fit nicely, however, the gearing and speedometer will be affected. The Michelin 14E innertube is the correct Alfa Romeo Alfetta innertube for these tires.

Alfetta GTV6 Tires

Later Alfetta GTV cars had 195/60R14 tires. In In this size we recommend a set of 195/60 VR 14 Michelin MXV3-A tires. The GTV6 quickly adopted 15-inch wheels with 195/60R15 tires as standard. The 195/60VR15 Michelin Pilot Primacy 3 tires are recommended for Alfetta GTV 6 vehicles with 15-inch wheels.

Some Alfetta GTV6 Coupe 2.5l models fitted 220/55R390 tires. In this size we suggest a set of 220/55 WR 390 Michelin TRX tires. Tires with a profile below 70% should not be fit with innertubes.

Alfa Romeo Alfetta History

The Alfa Romeo Alfetta is a rear-wheel-drive executive saloon and coupe produced by Alfa Romeo between 1972 and 1987. It sold over 400,000 units before being phased out. The success of the Alfetta is due, in part, to its combination of a basic design and a powerful engine. Sales have declined in recent years as a result of Alfa Romeo's reliability concerns, which plagued the company in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

The body of the Saloon was designed by Centro Stile Alfa Romeo, whereas the Alfetta GTV coupe was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro (not to be confused with the classic Giulia GTV). The Alfetta represented the brand's launch of a new powertrain configuration. The clutch, gearbox, and differential were all situated in the back of the car for better weight distribution, similar to the Alfetta 158/159 Grand Prix cars. The suspension consisted of twin wishbones and torsion bars in front and a de dion beam in rear.

The Alfetta was redesigned in 1979 with a new front end, wheel rims, and lights, as well as a diesel model. It features two four-cylinder double overhead cam engines, each with two valves, and a VM Turbo-Diesel engine. The 1.6 and 1.8 L basic models came with two double-barrel carburetors, while the 2.0 DOHC received fuel injection in 1979. The displacement of the diesel engine was initially 2.0 L, but it was increased to 2.4 L in 1982.

The four-door Alfetta was sold in the United States as the Alfa Romeo Alfetta sedan from 1975 to 1977. From 1978 to 1979, the 'Sport Sedan' was a subtly restyled variation. The four-cylinder coupe was known as the Alfetta GT from 1975 to 1977. Finally, from 1981 through 1986, the V-6 model was marketed as the GTV-6.

The classic Alfa Romeo Alfetta has gained worldwide recognition when it was popularised by Italian Prime Minister Aldo Morro. The Alfetta was the official escort automobile when he was kidnapped and finally slain by the Italian Terrorist left-wing organisation The Red Brigades in 1978. The Advocate, a critically praised Italian film that heavily borrowed from the original, was based on a fictionalised version of these events.

We equip Alfa Romeo Alfettas of all shapes and sizes, from the Carabinieri's 'Short Nose-Round Light' to the Prime Minister's own 'Long Nose-Square Light' 2000 Super Saloon!
