After my Dad passed away in March 2007, suddenly I realized that I must bring back that old dream and make something special out of it.
I asked my youngest son, now 17, to try to find a 64½ Ford Mustang Hard Top, 260/289 C.I, automatic transmission on eBay. I also told him that it had to be 150 miles, at most, from the Chicago area because some of our family lives there.
After a short amount of time doing research, My son called me and told me that he thought he might have just found my dream car.
I could not believe it, I came back home from work and before I kissed my wife I went to the computer to have a look at what he found. It was just my type of car and I decided that I would buy it no matter what it cost.
I asked my dear family, in Wilmette, Chicago to go and take a look at the new bride. my uncle called me back and told me, “ The bride is beautiful, it has the whole interior with all the color and its original radio plus an engine, take it! It is only two blocks from us”.
I made my bids and won the car.
Immediately I bought a lot of books about the Mustang and studied everything about the car, including the history of the Mustang.
I found the decode of the car and my heart filled with joy, I found out that this car was made on June 15th, 1964, it is the half of the half.
VIN# 5F07F166910 PLATE: 65A P 56 15F 43 1 6
After I bought the car, my dear uncle drove it to his garage until I would come to Chicago to see the new bride.
Three months went by before I came to Chicago to drive my dream car for three weeks, I checked the car and saw exactly what changes I needed to make and November 2007 delivered it to Israel from Wilmette to Indiana and from Indiana to New Jersey and from there it was shipped in a container to port of Haifa and from there to my home in Gilon.
It was a big sensation and a big joy.
Here in Israel I am a member of a car club called the Five Club.
In Israel we don’t have a lot of (any kind) Mustang. An old fellow remembered that the Ford Mustang came to Israel with the 170 C.I 6 cylinders and some of the cars came with the 289 C.I engine, he didn’t remember the 260 C.I engine.
To be an owner of a Mustang in Israel has something special and to be an owner of a 64-65 Mustang is very unique and I am very proud of that.
I spent three years collecting parts and searching for an expert body shop that is trustworthy, because I didn’t want to give my prized treasure to just anyone.
At the end of those three years I could start the restoration process.
I stripped the car of everything, and the car was free for the shop workers to replace all the rusty parts. For example, the floor pan R/L, the trunk and the side fenders, cowl side panel, fender lower corner, fender apron extension, battery apron, shock tower cover, front frame rail, the whole motor area, and the fenders from the Ford tooling fender.
Plus I changed the front drums to disc brake and put in a master cylinder; I also added an aluminum radiator and new fuel tank, pretty much the whole car.
I used special kits such as: Ford Mustang Master Body Kit For 1965 and 1965-1966 Ford Mustang Coupe Interior Kit 248 PCS, 1965-66 Ford Mustang Front seat belt bolts for Coupe and Fastback, 1965 Ford Mustang seat belt bolts OR 1964 ½, 1964-1965 Mustang/Falcon Master Chassis Kit 260/289 Engine FR Disc Bakes, and 1965 Mustang Master Underhood Kit All Motors.
I have changed the weatherstrip and the windshield, I changed parts in the engine too like the Camshaft and some other parts.
I also painted it in its original color.
