Made in Abingdon, England, this left-hand drive example is dressed in its original Vermillion paint, the paint and trim are in overall very good order after all these years. The contrasting tan, folding canvas top presents well, the rubber black bumpers look good and the carpeted cargo area in is very good order. There’s a rear-mounted luggage rack and to meet US regulations, the car sports three windshield wipers.
This MG rolls on steel belted radials, size P175/70R14 at all four corners and each one is mounted an original Rostyle-black-and silver steel wheel. The wheels look great while the tires are in good, original order.
Under the hood is a 1.8L DOHC 16-valve four-cylinder engine with a rebuilt Weber downdraft carburetor. The motor is backed by a four-speed manual transmission with electric overdrive in fourth gear only. The car has a new master cylinder and power brakes.
All MGBs were fitted with 11-inch solid (non-ventilated) disc brakes on the front with drum brakes on the rear. The front brake calipers were manufactured by Lockheed and used two pistons per caliper. The brake system on the MGB GT was the same as the roadster with the exception of slightly larger rear brake cylinders. A single-circuit hydraulic system was used before 1968 when dual-circuit (separate front and rear systems) were installed on all MGBs to comply with US regulations. Servo assistance (power brakes) was not standard until 1975. In the rear, an anti-roll bar was standard. All MGs used the tube-type axle from 1968 on.
Inside, the tan vinyl interior looks good. The buckets are in good order, as is the contrasting black carpet and MG floormats. A black dashboard and four-spoke steering wheel face the driver and present a good contrast to the seats and inner door panels. A full array of gauges and a console-mounted shifter complete the interior.
