Gas-soaked rags and bullet holes: Why crews suspect arson in recent Daytona vehicle fire

Daytona Beach firefighters responded to the 2000 block of Strickland Range Road for a vehicle fire.

Arson is suspected in a vehicle fire after Daytona Beach firefighters found gas-soaked rags and bullet holes around the fuel door, officials said.

Firefighters responded overnight to the 2000 block of Strickland Range Road near Clyde Morris Boulevard after it was reported an SUV rolled over into a ditch and caught fire, according to the Daytona Beach Fire Department.

No victims were located in the Chevrolet Tahoe after the fire was extinguished, firefighters said.

The state Department of Environmental Protection was contacted due to gas having leaked into the canal.

The State Fire Marshal is investigating.
