Toyota's 173kW GR 86 will make its on-road debut at the 2021 Goodwood Festival of Speed.
The Festival of Speed will be held in the grounds of Goodwood House in West Sussex from 8 to 11 July, pending any delays regarding the coronavirus pandemic and restrictions.
Following the launch of the GR Supra and the imminent arrival of the GR Yaris in South Africa, the high-performance GR 86 is set to arrive locally in the first quarter of 2022. The 86 was first launched in 2012.
Following in the Supra's steps
Its source of power comes from a 2.4-litre horizontally opposed four-cylinder engine that produces 173kW and 250Nm. It retains the car's classic front-engine, rear-wheel-drive configuration.
Besides the substantial increase in power, it also benefits from weight-saving characteristics like aluminium roof and body panels, which should make it the lightest four-seat coupe in its class with a provisional kerb weight of 1 270kg.
