School bus crashes with 15 students, no injuries

staff report

OKALOOSA COUNTY — A school bus carrying 15 students was in an accident Monday evening at the intersection of Racetrack Road and Air Force Street.

William Shelby, 39 of Fort Walton Beach, was driving north in a Toyota Corolla on Air Force Street and stopped at the intersection of Racetrack Road, according to a press release from the Florida Highway Patrol. A school bus, driven by 62-year-old Dorothy Mullins of Niceville, was traveling east on the inside eastbound lane of Racetrack Road.

Shelby did not see the school bus approaching before he took a left turn, the press release said. As a result, the bus driver rear ended Shelby's vehicle.

Both drivers drove to an empty parking lot south of the accident.

The drivers nor any of the 15 children were injured, the press release said.

Shelby was charged with failing to yield when making a left turn. He was also charged with no proof of insurance.
