1959 Volkswagen Beetle Sedan "Survivor"

Wow!
Now here's a real beauty, a true "survivor"car  in every sense of the word, including a little history.

But, let's start off with that color, L243 Diamond Grey Metallic one of my personal favorites of the early
*Square Window* era, it's a two year only color, 1958/59.

The car was bought new on January 5th 1959 at Beekman Auto Company in La Grange, New York (near Poughkeepsie)
to a Kindergarten Teacher Lola Allen.

She put on a few miles before her passing, her husband George a Bakery Store owner, drove the car until
he was 90 years old and couldn't pass the eye test.
He sold the car in 1992 to a Harold Hill from Poughkeepsie with 38,000 original miles.
Mr. Hill drove it to the 1993 Orangeburg VW show, when he passed away in 2011 it was sold to a NY woman
and then to a South Carolina VW Collector in 2013 with only 40,000 original miles.

The car is just full of  factory original goodness.

Looking into the trunk, the cars absolutely original and un-restored.

Original paint on the gas tank and vintage factory tool kit.

You don't often see a un-restored gas tank, beautiful!

Original spare tire from 1959!

Original factory jack.

All original cardboard liner and wiring cover, cars hardly ever have these items and in such fine condition.

Very impressed with the preservation this car received in it's 58 years of road worthiness.

The car received a respray in it's original L243 Diamond Grey Metallic quite a while ago, but the new paint
has held up very well, it's one of VW's most attractive late 1950's colors.

Ah let's look at that amazing interior..

That elegant vintage Volkswagen steering wheel.

This is L75 Green-Grey leatherette, in my opinion one of the finest looking interiors that Volkswagen produced
in the 1950's.

The door panels are in superb condition.

Original VW Service sticker in the drivers side door jam...it's things like this that get me all excited!

Fascinating!
The original clear plastic visor is like new and look at that chrome, it doesn't get much better than this.

Wow!

This car is about as good as it gets, the leatherette, the original dash paint the slight traces of patina and age
you can almost smell the interior, I'm sure if they could bottle this smell, they'd make a million dollars!

What a smooth dash, as I mentioned before, all original paint, chrome, leatherette, it's as you went back
to 1959 and bought the car yourself.

Ah, one of the coolest of the cool, *Square Window* accessories was the Dehne "Thermometer" style
gas gauge, made especially for the new style dashboard in 1958, this is a very rare version of this gauge
which has it's original sender up front on the gas tank.

Original VW "LOGO" ignition key, which also opened up the lock in the drivers door.

L243 Diamond Grey Metallic radio *block off* plate.

Original gearshift knob.

Original rubber pedal covers with hardly any wear, note the regular style gas pedal another improvement over
the Oval Window era  cars, roller pedal, also see in  the background the original Anthracite Grey carpet and to the far
left a rubber accessory high beam button cover.

The symbol of the German Economic Wonder the "Wolfsburg" crest.
The steering wheel is another untouched item, showing only some delicate patina after 58 years.

41,552 Original miles!

The Dehne "Thermometer" gas gauge, the very rare one, in USA measurements  1/4, 1/2, 3/4 and FULL.
You hardly ever see this version of the gauge.

Lovely door panels, lovingly assembled 58 years ago..

Really love that Green/Black armrest, so smooth and a beautiful design and  just a simple armrest.

This color combination is perfect.

Chrome and door panels like new!

Some light patina on the chrome ash tray in the passenger side rear.

Beautiful side panels and back seat.

Look at the sides of that Green-Grey leatherette, marvelous!

Showroom factory clean under dash as well..

The seats were perfectly preserved.

58 years and just a few scuffs on this little bit of the seat side trim.

Accessory gas can.

Scotch patterned picnic set.

Perfect glass and trim all the way around.

You can see a slight masking line on the window rubber.

L243 Diamond Grey Metallic, one of VW's most beautiful metallic colors.

Original locking deck lid.

Looking out back, we see, all original "H" pattern motor apron and original "snowflake" taillights.

Engine compartment looks very nice and tidy.

Looking good!

"Numbers Matching" motor.

Original fuel pump and distributor.

Well maintained and all original.

Not often you see this greeting you, an original 36hp motor.

Nice and tidy under here too, no leaks or unwanted oil anywhere.

Solid floor pans.

The paint looks just great, I can't stop raving about this wonderful color.

What a great look, all factory stock, if a car could talk, I'm sure this car would have some very
fascinating stories to tell.

So good looking all around.

A car as clean and original as this one just brings a smile to your face.

Already at the beach, so the roof rack is ready to take those surfboards home.

Yes it is, beach perfect, just the right car for enjoying a day on the coast.

Almost time to say "Goodbye" to this lovely early *Square Window.*

Headlights are nice and bright, 6 volt electrics in perfect order.

Cars of this condition and caliber are getting harder and harder to find by the minute, this car is an *Honest to Goodness*
Survivor, low mileage , untouched virgin car, that was well maintained and preserved for over 58 years.
In a very rare and desirable color combination, turn-key ready to drive and just in time for summer, this car
would make a perfect addition to the family parked in your garage
