Demi Lovato Comes Out as Pansexual, Wants to Adopt

Demi Lovato

"I'm so fluid now — and a part of the reasn why I am so fluid is I was super closeted off."

Demi Lovato continues to open up.

On an appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast, singer and actress Demi Lovato said that she currently identifies as pansexual, meaning she's attracted to all genders.

The announcement came when Rogan asked Lovato if she wants to have children. "I used to," she said. "I think if anything I want to adopt. I was engaged to a man last year (actor Max Ehric). I totally thought I'd be married, maybe pregnant by now. And that's not the case."

She continued, saying "I also don't know if I'm going to end up with a guy, so I can't really see myself maybe getting pregnant. I'm so fluid now -- and a part of the reason why I am so fluid is because I was super closeted off."

Rogan asked if she meant sexually fluid, meaning she likes girls and boys. "Yeah, anything really," Lovato replied. Rogan asked if she calls that being pansexual, to which Lovato replied, "yeah pansexual."

Lovato has long discussed her sexuality without settling on a definitive label. Her music video for "I Really Don't Care" was filmed at a Pride Parade in 2014 where she was LA Pride's Grand Marshall, and her 2015 song "Cool for the Summer" is about being with a girl.

In 2017, she released a YouTube documentary, Demi Lovato: Simply Complicated, where she opened up about being interested in multiple genders. "I am on the dating app with both guys and girls," she said, "I am open to human connection. Whether that's through a male or a female, it doesn't matter to me."

It's been a month of big revelations from Lovato, who released a new documentary Dancing With the Devil, that focuses on her struggles with addiction and nearly dying.

In the documentary, she explains that when she overdosed in 2018, ending up in the hospital, she had a heart attack and three strokes, something that left her with permanent blind spots and brain damage.

Earlier this month, Lovato also said that right now, she's not interested in dating cis men. "When I started getting older, I started realizing how queer I really am," Lovato said in the film. "This past year I was engaged to a man, and when it didn't work, I was like, 'this is a huge sign.' I thought I was going to spend my life with someone. Now that I wasn't going to, I felt this sense of relief that I could live my truth."

Congratulations on coming out as pansexual, Demi, may the rest of your journey be fruitful.
