Up for auction is this 1962 Porsche 356B 1600 Super Cabriolet finished in Ruby Red over a grey leather interior. Marking the inaugural year of the T6 program, the 1962 356B debuted revised Reutter bodywork including a distinctive twin-grille rear decklid. This Super Cabriolet was treated to a considerable amount of refurbishment over the last four years including a complete repaint, engine-out service, overhaul of the braking system, re-chromed trim, and more. Accompanied by a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, this 356B is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Georgia.
This Cabriolet reportedly underwent a color change during the early 2000s and was refinished once again recently in the current shade of Ruby Red. The paintwork was carried out by Better Bodies of Edgewater, FL and much of the brightwork was recently re-chromed including the wing vents and door handles. The Porsche Certificate of Authenticity shows the original color to have been Slate Grey, additional images are provided in the photo gallery. This 356B rides on 15” chrome wheels with Porsche crested Super hubcaps and Nankang tires mounted within the last four years.
Inside, the cabin has been re-trimmed in grey leather and freshly refurbished with a re-chromed trim, new headliner, convertible top adjustment, and Stoddard sound insulation throughout the cabin. The seller reports all gauges, lights, and accessories remain operational.
This 356B carries a 1600cc flat-four engine paired with a 4-speed manual gearbox. The engine case was sourced from a later 1964 356C while the oil pump (3rd engine piece) was carried over from the original engine. Images of the drivetrain stampings and Porsche Certificate of Authenticity are provided in the gallery. The engine was reportedly rebuilt during a restoration in the late 1990s by Berardelli of Alexander, VA. More recently within the last four years, an engine-out service was completed by German Excellence of Orlando, FL including replacement of the flywheel, polishing of the crankshaft, and resealing of the gearbox. Here is a situation where it calls into question the issue of " clean title", which the seller claims. This, unfortunately, needs to be straightened out by the seller, not the buyer. If you sold it into a state which took a very close look at the numbers, it would be an expensive lesson. Straighten out the title before you list the car.
I have to agree with @jerrysmalley that it has to be clarified whether it is a stolen vehicle or not. I therefore welcome the proposal to suspend the auction and clarify it. It is important to avoid damage to the buyer and pcar must also warn the buyer here. This is not directed against you (jerrysmalley) as a seller, but rather protects all of us classic car lovers from making it particularly difficult for car thieves.

@jerrysmalley Jerry, you need to pull this car from sale. This needs to be sorted or there may be some very bad things that happen as a result of the sale. You need to involve the person that you bought the car from and he needs to go back to the previous owner until it becomes clear who faked the numbers. Wherever the buck stops somebody had better have a good story. The most likely guess is that somebody is looking for 157215 and somebody has hidden it from them. This needs to be sorted. Since the engine has also been renumbered and you have a number stamp set then it all looks very bad for you. If you did not do these things the sooner you discover who did, the better for you. The Porsche 356 Registry is very concerned about the entire incident.

@cmaxcliff I did not know such a number existed. I took the plate off and the number there is 157215 not matching the front number of 157362.
@jerrysmalley The serial number stamped into the trunk floor has ground off welding around the parimeter of the rectangular raised portion. The numbers don't look correct either. Could you remove the right door hinge cover and take a picture of the hidden serial number there?
@cmaxcliff The car came to me 4 years ago as you see it. I was not aware of the difference in the case number as to the year it was built. The third piece number is how it came to me indicating that a resourced engine was fitted with the original third piece. If I knew this I certainly would not have included the pics as I did. Plan to revise the listing to reflect this.
As to the eBay listing, this came as part of a bulk purchase and is not proper and has been removed from eBay.

@jerrysmiley Picture number #101 shows the Porsche engine type "616/15" which is from a 1964 or 1965 C model. The "matching numbers" engine for this car should be a type 616/12. I did see your ad on eBay for a third piece and number stamping set. Could you explain this please?

@weir42 There seems to be only body work below the stamped VIN. Looked on my other car and same thing. Best send me a pic of what you are looking for.

@weir42 Look at pic #93. The vin is there but not the plate, just the holes.
The trunk tray has a lip of 3 to 4 inches/ overhang in the front . Your ID badges along with Vin stamping can be viewed from this angle. You can view the rivets of plates along with Serial number. A pic from this angle would be helpful, you will need light or your flash on your phone. Dark area of the trunk/car.
