    Hi Bigboy,

    New photos of the underside of the rear deck lid have been posted. There is a spot on one side that has a small micro chip and the underlying primer is exposed. It is kind of an orange pink color. Looking into the hidden area on the other side between the two panels a bit of primer is visible. You have to look closely to see it.

    How else can I assist?

    Good afternoon PCARMARKET fans everywhere. An observant commenter noted a few days ago that the interior of this Porsche's rear parcel shelf is black and not blue. I made several inquires regarding this and also checked through the photos in my data base and can now confirm, unless special ordered otherwise, the rear shelf areas is always black in contrast to the other color of the interior.

    PCAR has another of these Turbo 3.6 for sale here:

    https://www.pcarmarket.com/auction/1994-porsche-964-36-turbo-5-speed/

    Please note the tan interior and rear parcel shelf is also black.

    Kind regards,

    Bill Noon

    @bigboy Hi Bigboy,

    First, I actually really appreciate and welcome all your questions. All are encouraged to do so likewise and I am happy to assist with any manner of additional inspections and test drives as need. I want only fully happy and satisfied bidders on this Porsche.

    I see the areas you are asking about. I work from home so will need to check on this in the morning. I don't recall thinking anything was amiss here but will need to verify by checking again tomorrow just to make sure.

    If you think of any other questions, please fire away!

    Cheers,

    Bill

    @Bill_Noon thanks for your patience with all my questions...this is my last one I promise! lol On picture #64 showing the backside of the rear lid engine cover....you can see in some of the holes on the engine cover that there appears to be Guards red paint or overspray....is this the original engine cover? or ?

  • Bill_Noon (seller) 3 years, 11 monthsago

    @bigboy Hi Bigboy,

    I don't think acid ever leaked but for sure it has original type clear coat that has flaked away over the years. The reason I don't think battery acid ever leaked is the spare rim and tire show no signs of acid damage and the two paper water decals on the rim are pristine and these would have turned to powder if exposed to acid fumes.

    I am thinking the trunk paint is probably the only original paint left on the car and it shows typical clear coat delimitation which is probably why the car had to be repainted when new in the first place.

    A mechanic came to inspect the car today and he was very impressed by the paint. He metered it again and confirms it is a complete repaint but could not find any sign that it was repainted other than the meter readings them self.

    He also noted the rub mark on the right rear wheel center area could likely be polished out without too much difficulty. I think its a bit deeper than that and the rim will have to be refinished but I could be wrong.

    No other issues or defects were noted during today's inspections but the car was only statically inspected and not driven this time.

    How else can I assist?

    Bill

  • bigboy 3 years, 11 monthsago

    @Bill_Noon it looks like the battery has leaked acid in the trunk....? all the grey cloudy spots look to be from acid and the cleaning of acid spill? the trunk area appears to be repainted as it looks to have clear coat....I don't believe the trunk compartment should be clear coated....should be more of a "dull" midnight blue but without clear?

    @bigboy Hi Bigboy,

    I still have somewhere the Porsche bulletin issued in 1992 or 93 that stated the clear coat issue was the fault of the dealers doing improper pre-delivery preparation and specifically it was because we were using the wrong cleaning products. It was all BS and it made no difference how you washed or cleaned the car or what cleaner you used. Some just had really bad clear coats, others held up better. The situation was never resolved by Porsche until the lease of the new 993 which again changed paint procedures.

    Don't get me wrong, the 964 models and specifically the "Cult-Classic" Turbo 3.6 were and remain my all time favorite 911 derivative seconded only by the 69 911S and ultra-rare 75 Turbo.

    Cheers,

    Bill

  • bigboy 3 years, 11 monthsago

    @Bill_Noon Your comment "On the East Coast, one Florida dealer would drive the cars down from New Jersey on arrival in the States and a 500 plus mile drive would completely remove the clear coat." .....wow would have loved to have seen that! 500 miles and the clear coat just completely came off! Porsche in Germany must have really been surprised to hear that! You sure have some amazing insight on these cars. thanks for the eye-opening info...you learn something new everyday around here!

    @Bill_Noon can you post a picture of the trunk floor with the spare removed? thanks

  • Bill_Noon (seller) 3 years, 11 monthsago

    Hi Bigboy,

    You are correct, it was the surrounding pieces that were removed but the bottom was painted and I think they changed out all the fuel lines at the same time. No, I really don't believe the back panel was changed. I looked through all my photos of other Turbo 3.6 models with different interiors and other than one in gray and one in tan, the back panel is black on all of the others. Also the screws and fasteners have no scratches or tool marks so not really any chance anything has ever been removed or changed there. The car is getting two PPIs this week. Let me point this out and see what they think of this area.

    How else can I assist?

    Bill

  • bigboy 3 years, 11 monthsago

    @Bill_Noon "The spare tire well bottom side panel under the car was removed when the fuel tank was flushed out and it was repainted at the same time black".....I hate to be argumentative but this is not a removable piece, it is the majority of the front trunk floor....to remove it you would have to cut it out...Again not wanting to argue here but as far as the rear panel being in black, of course its been changed...do you really think Porsche completed the interior entirely in blue except for that one panel? lol

  • Bill_Noon (seller) 3 years, 11 monthsago

    Good afternoon Bigboy,

    Sorry for the delay in responding to your last question. I needed to do some checking before responding. Yes, the car has the oil breather line updates and another oil line updated with the replacement type braided steel lines.

    Can I assist with anything else?

    Bill

  • Bill_Noon (seller) 3 years, 11 monthsago

    @bigboy Not a problem in the least Bigboy. They are great questions and I am glad you presented them.

    -The rear parcel shelf where the speakers are mounted is standard black. It does not appear to have been changed or modified and it does not appear the rear seats were ever even sat in. The fasteners and screws show no signs of tool marks or scratches, so I do not believe anything was ever changed and where the headliner meets the back material, it remains the original vacuum installed fit and finish and the headliner is most certainly all original as well.

    -The spare tire well bottom side panel under the car was removed when the fuel tank was flushed out and it was repainted at the same time black.

    -The ash tray was never used and has just some dust bunnies in it. I took the photo specifically to show the car was never smoked in. The ashtray was actually stuck and it took a bit of patience to open it up. I don’t think it had ever been opened before. I took the photos.

    How else can I assist?

    Bill

  • bigboy 3 years, 11 monthsago

    @Bill_Noon sorry to ask so many questions but a couple more- the car has a blue interior but the wall behind the rear folding seats and the rear deck where the speakers are appears to be black....should be blue to match the rest of the panels. Underneath the front of the car the pan that holds the spare tire looks to be painted black or dark blue....this should be a shade of grey if original. Several of the hoses in the engine compartment look to be aftermarket. The ashtray looks to have cigarette/ash residue...is this a smoker car? Again sorry for all the questions!

    Good afternoon PCARMARKET Fans everywhere,

    A copy of the COA has just been submitted and should be posted shortly. Personally, I feel the new COA system is essentially worthless which is why I always provide copies of the original Porsche internal assembly records when they are available. Both pages of those documents are posted already in the photo gallery.

    Cheers,

    @bigboy Good afternoon Bigboy,

    Sorry for the delay in responding and if my earlier response was confusing. All who have seen and inspected this Porsche agree, it shows no signs of a repaint. It gives the appearance of 100% original paint as all stickers, decals are intact with no paint lines or overspray or any of the typical things that would indicate a repaint. If you look in the cracks and crevices of the car, it shows no indication of ever having been repainted. Only a paint meter reading check confirms it must have been repainted entirely at some point. Because the paint is so perfect uniform and all of the decals and stickers are intact, I am leaning towards thinking it was painted under warranty, especially given that it is an early example. In any case today the car looks showroom new and the paint is impossibly perfect. The only cosmetic defect on the entire car is a small rub mark on the center of the right rear rim. (A photo of this is in the photo gallery.)

    When Porsche introduced the 964 in late 1989, one of the main changes from the “G” models was the use of an all new paint process utilized first by VW & Audi. It was a water based paint with clear coat on top. The main reason for the change was for environmental reasons mandated by changes in German manufacturing rules and requirements. The new 964 models were notorious for having clear coat issues. I was selling these cars when they were still new and Porsche initially was warrantying the cars and repainting quite a few but then stopped at one point blaming dealers for using the wrong cleaning products and it really got ugly for a while. Porsche went to so far as to provide detail kits with special products to clean and wash the new clear coat painted cars but this was mostly damage control. On the East Coast, one Florida dealer would drive the cars down from New Jersey on arrival in the States and a 500 plus mile drive would completely remove the clear coat.

    Eventually dealers realized the easiest and least expensive way to deal with the issues was to color sand off the clear coat to get to the base color and then buff and polish the paint out completely. This is why today so many 964s have paint issues despite having thin meter readings. While not always the case, I cannot remember the last time I encountered any 964 that had its original clear coat intact with no issues. I probably have not seen one in more than 20 years.

    How else can I assist?

    Bill

  • bigboy 3 years, 11 monthsago

    @Bill_Noon Your response to my paint question is confusing....you first say "I think it got a warranty repaint to address the dreaded 964 clear coat issues."....then you say "it appears to be 100% original paint which is why I am leaning towards it being a repaint in period".....your comment "horrid issues with the clear coats fading and delaminating literally the moment they arrived." and "The dealers developed a process to wet color sand the cars down to the base paint and get rid of all the clear coat and buff and polish it back to a nice shine. This is the main reason today it is so hard to find a 964 with perfect paint.".... all very interesting as I have never heard of this 964 new car paint crisis back in the day.

    @bigboy Good morning Bigboy,

    Many thanks for your comments and questions. I have had a lot of these over the years and have been selling them since they were new. It remains my all-time favorite Turbo model. Sort of the best of the G models in a vastly improved 964 platform.

    You are correct, over here in the States most came with a standard assortment of desirable options. Keep in mind, the entire production run was sold out before the first cars were even delivered so finding special build version with unique options and features is a rare occurrence. I have only seen one other non-sunroof example but my contacts at Porsche told me a total of 55 were actually completed.

    I have a contact at Porsche that backdoors me the internal assembly records and both pages of these are posted in the photo gallery. They confirm all of the car's original assembly details, dates, colors, options and the 25 individual option codes themselves. The car remains today, exactly as originally assembled when new with no modifications, changes or alterations, other than fluids, filters and service items as needed over the years.

    The car was never road-registered in Italy and it is titled and registered as a 1993 model. Porsche officially states these were a one year old model but that is not entirely correct. Assembly started in production year 1993 and carried over into 1994 in an extended long production run.

    We had this Porsche very carefully inspected and there are zero signs of corrosion or accident damage anywhere on the car. In fact, the bottom side of the car was absolutely pristine and shows zero signs of ever being scraped or bounced which sadly is quite common.

    No panels, bolts or fasteners have ever been take off of the car and given all the original stickers and decals are intact and that this is an early example, I think it got a warranty repaint to address the dreaded 964 clear coat issues.

    When these cars were new, we had horrid issues with the clear coats fading and delaminating literally the moment they arrived. For the 964 models, Porsche had switched over to the VW/AUDI paint process due to environmental concerns but it was a poor decision. Initially we got Porsche to warranty many of the cars but then they stopped.

    The dealers developed a process to wet color sand the cars down to the base paint and get rid of all the clear coat and buff and polish it back to a nice shine. This is the main reason today it is so hard to find a 964 with perfect paint.

    The paint on this one has not a single noticeable flaw and visually it appears to be 100% original paint which is why I am leaning towards it being a repaint in period under warranty.

    It is breathtakingly beautiful and this was the primary reason we worked so hard to buy this one. It is easy to find them in white, silver, black and red but unique colors are extremely hard to come by.

    Let me know how else I can assist,

    Bill

  • bigboy 3 years, 11 monthsago

    Sunroof delete is a nice feature for sure. The mention of "25 different option packages" is a bit confusing...if this car was a US model 3.6 Turbo it would be considered as fairly basic spec with really only 2 options...the full leather and the colored crests on the wheels...all the other things mentioned here as options are basic standard US equipment from Porsche for that model in the US. By the paint readings was the entire car repainted? Any damage history in Italy or Japan? Is the car titled as a 93 or 94? Interesting car.

    @Nazlondon Good morning Nazlondon, I will post the service records as soon as I can scan them. The last service was a full major and full safety check and it was completed two weeks ago. We also installed all new tires at the same time.

    I believe I have a COA but like most, it sucks. Better than a COA, I have a contact at Porsche and he backdoored us a a complete set of the original Porsche internal assembly records and they are posted in the photo gallery. They confirm all details, colors, numbers and options on the car.

    The car is 100% matching the exact same configuration as delivered new. It is all matching numbers, colors, options without change as delivered new in its completely unique, "one-of-one" configuration.

    You can use the "CONTACT SELLER" button and I can also email high resolution versions of the Factory assembly records to you directly if you like.

    Welcome again PCAR fans everywhere to another fun-filled auction for all to enjoy!

    This one is going to be a real treat for the Turbo 3.6 fans. This "special order" Porsche is a true, one-of-one configuration example in the impossibly beautiful colors of "Midnight Blue" over dark-blue full leather interior, with matching blue headliner and it is an ultra-rare, sunroof delete example.

    This is an original European version and the paint on this particular Turbo 3.6 is the finest we have ever encountered. We could not find a single defect, not even a stone chip on the lower valence and rockers. The interior likewise remains pristine and shows no wear and clearly the car was carefully UV protected its entire life.

    I have full history as well as the Porsche internal assembly records documenting the car remains as delivered new including the fitting of 25 different option packages. The bottom side is impossibly correct and pristine and every service is zero-running time fresh. New tires were just fitted during the full services and safety checks and they still have the paper stickers on them.

    This Porsche has zero mechanical defects of any kind and the sole cosmetic defect is a small rub mark on the right-rear rim center likely from a ham-fisted mechanic changing out the tires. This small defect is shown in the photo gallery.

    I will be posting starting and driving videos as soon as they can be uploaded along with the service records.

    Starting Monday at 10AM, the car will be available for any manner of inspections and test drives. I can also assist with any manner of worldwide shipping quotes as needed.

    All interested individuals are encouraged to use the "CONTACT SELLER" button if I can assist further in anyway.

    My very best to you all and a very HAPPY FATHER'S day to those so blessed!

    Cheers,

    Bill Noon
