The drivers seat is easily restorable. I can see that the steering wheel is full of grease, which shall be a pain to fully remove, and would cause a restore to fail. I'd re-trim that.

I've always fancied a RRC but thats an impossibility because of the price

However the P38 has become my ultimate range rover.

So Yes a full resto is inevitable lol

i'm planning a full respray

Top end engine rebuild

full walnut interior

Re upholster the seats

re-weld the rear bumper mounts because it has rotted away so the bumper droops on one side!! lol

refurbish the wheels or get a set of 18" Mondial wheels which is better looking imo.

fit stainless side steps

plastic wide arches which were a rare addition which make the P38 look the NUTS

Front plastic nudge bar with spot lights

New VCU mine whines like bh

replace sunroof the current one is very corroded and leaks!

EBC Offroad disks with green pads all round.

New headliner

Full Janspeed stainless exhaust.

there is more lol

but thats all i can think of for now smile

This is the inspiration for my P38

https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

Another fellow PH member with one of the best P38's i've ever seen, i hope to get it close to that standard.

So @D4MJT feel free to comment on my project if you like what you see lol

Good work OP.. Keep up the good work. Enjoyed my P38 even if the game of "which warning light today" became boring.

Your leather seats and steering wheel are not shot and don't need re-trimming IMHO (unless there is a rip you havent shown.

A good leather re-conniliser will sort those for you.

A good friend of mine runs www.autocurators.com They are organising wheel refurb (proper wheel strip and dip etc), and a full respray on my mk1 Mx5 I am restoring. I would not use anyone else. They will also perform seat re-connolisation, and can manage all aspects of paint renovation etc. Tell Paul Ed sent you if you speak with him.

Looks smart, a great car for a 17 year old!

I'm currently running a 2001 Vogue as a daily to keep the miles off my 4.6 RRC, which spends a lot of its time towing trailers and the caravan;

I've done quite a lot of remedial work to it fixing previous bodges and bring it up to scratch and added a few things along the way too like a tow bar, exhaust, reverse camera using satnav screen, colour coded bumpers, bluetooth/USB Audio, GEN3 springs.

Good luck with the spannering and feel free to drop me questions in messages if you want.

Awesome choice of vehicle OP, like you I've always been a Range Rover fan, was lucky enough to swank around in a company RRC 3.9 V8 Vogue SE at the age of 17 (I ended up buying it when I was 24 or so) eventually sold that but the Rangie hole in my life was too great so I bought a resto job 4.6 HSE P38 a few years later...

Yours is a lovely colour and with a bit of work will be a brilliant car to tool about in, especially at your age!

Sadly I'm without Rangie at the moment but the desire never dims!

This is all very good.

Looks a lovely base for some tinkering mate, one of the rarer colours too. The plans sound good, I'd nudge you towards "losing" the massive centre silencer in the exhaust, for a cheap mod they sound so much better, and it isn't in your face loud either...

Thanks for the kind words on mine beer

3MPG !!

That's impressive - think the worst I ever got out of my 4.6 was 9 MPG but that was playing offroad
Having said that, onroad was only ever around 14 so not that much better.

Monte Carlo Blue, one of the best LR colours offered yum

Excellent looking P38, look forward to seeing how this develops.

I've had Land Rovers since I was 16, most of my friends thought I was mad at your age (still do, truth be told!), but they're absolutely great fun. Wouldn't be without one.

Ok PH'ers

I went out today to open the boot, the minute i pressed the button that releases the tailgate i heard a crackle and pop!
now the boot won't open.

Not only that the inside of the car stank of brunt plastic, not good.

I pulled the fuse cover off of the BCM and found fuse 15 had melted, went to replace it but the minute a new fuse touched the terminals POP it blows!

Now the really bad bit, i pulled the plastic trim off the floor and around the seat and found the wiring loom that runs along the floor was submerged in water!!

Also the sound deadening is soaking, but the carpet is dry?!

I've mopped up most of the water

Fuse 15 controls the tailgate, fuel filler flap and the God damn immobiliser!

I hunted around forever pulling plastic trim panels off looking at ground points inspecting the loom etc etc

Then I found out that the lock actuators have a habit of going up the creek and considering the fuse blew when i attempted to open the boot!!

I managed to RIP the trim off the inside of the tailgate and manually open it, then i disconnected all wires.

This fixed the fuse blowing issue but the car was still immobilised.

The other problem i had was the Inside of the drivers door handle had disintegrated and the door lock actuator was making a horrible fukin racket, probably my fault to slamming the door a tad too hard lol

Anywhoo the actuator has a chip in it which recognises the Key and if it's faulty the BECM will immobilise the car.

I pulled the door card off and found a tell tale hallmark of a previous issue, i'm assuming it had this issue in the past..

Hmm lovely top quality job lol

Door card off.

Ok so i delved in and i went fishing around, and found this...

My main issue is, i don't know where the fk that goes, but one issue at a time eh?

I'll update with more pictures tomorrow this is as far as i've gotten lol
