Looking for opinions on wheels: 1967 Mustang

I'm looking to get some new tires and wheels for my 1967 Mustang Coupe. My dilemma is the fact that when we restored the car, we went with a mostly stock appearance. Of course after the fact, I get a little more interested in the pro-touring scene, and start thinking a little differently.

So I guess I'm looking for wheel ideas in the 17" range that perhaps give the car a more pro-touring look, but don't break the bank; I don't want to spend more than $1k on wheels (total). Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I think these look since on a Ford:

      Also these:

To be honest, you will have a hard time finding a set of wheels for $1K...

      Andrew,

I was actually going to purchase the V45s, but VWW is having some sourcing/supply issues, so I had to look elsewhere. Right now, i'm leaning towards these in a 17x8 http://www.wheelsforless.com/VN3097865

Just another general comment: When looking at other pro-touring type cars, like first gen Camaros, they look really good with a multi-spoke wheel, like a Forgeline GA3R. But in my opinion, it would be tough to get that type of wheel to look good on a car like mine.

Which is why I think many people still lean towards the 5-spoke look, like the Torq Thrusts and the V40/45s, etc.

The main reason I dislike the newer style wheels are the offsets. I want to try and get as much "dish" as I can with a stock width rear end. Most of the newer take-offs would require spacers.

There are a few other styles in 17" that will fall into your budget. http://www.cjponyparts.com/catalog/c...ar_mustang=666

ET Mags has some nice style wheels in 17 and 18 for reasonable prices. I especially like their LT III min-lite wheels.

      Update!

Thank you all for the opinions. I ended up going with the Torq Thrust Originals in a 17x8 with 245/45/17 BFG G-Force Sport Comp II's. I love the look, but now I need to work on the stance a bit. I plan on cutting the front springs, and putting in the 4.5 leaf mid-eye springs that I have.

TTOs look great on there. If you want to just lower the back you could go w/ a block type spacer under the axle and keep the springs you have. Then get the front lowered nicely to achieve the stance you want. Are you going to go with center caps, plates or none?

My only concern is that I will go through all the trouble to replace the rear leafs, and it will end up sitting higher than the worn-out stock springs. Right now, I am using air-shocks to "set" the rear ride height and keep the tires away from the fenders. But then again like you said, I could always add blocks. I think the slightly stiffer rear spring will be a better route regardless.

I am in the process of removing the front springs to shorten them by roughly 1/2"-3/4" from my calcs to get a 1"-1.5" drop. If I go any lower, the front tires will hit the fenders, and no amount of fender rolling will help with this wheel and tire combination.

As for the center caps, the stock caps that come with the TT's are hideous, so I am going to try and find some decent plates, just to cover my ugly, beat-up dust caps.

How does the rear sit with the air shocks fully deflated? BTW, there is risk of damaging the upper shock mount area when using air shocks. The upper shock mounts were never intended to carry the weight of the car (even not partial weight).
