Description

In a world full of pristine, numbers-matching Super Sports and very well done tributes, it's always nice to see a Chevelle that's a bit different. And it takes some serious skill to find an authentic car that's been kept true to form, instead of decorated in a typically bright hue and fitted with a quintessential big block engine. This awesome 1967 Malibu has been completely restored, fully sorted and decked in a correct combination of Granada Gold and Capri Cream two-stage. And here's the best part: as a correct small block cruiser, it isn't just another rare showpiece that's a practice in moribund competition and garage queen gimmicks. This coupe is a reliable, road-ready rocket that'll officially stage your debut as a boulevard super star. If you're searching for some old school Chevrolet muscle that wraps great performance in classic good looks, your Chevelle has arrived!

A simple breakdown of this Chevy's satin black cowl tag confirms the authenticity of its mostly correct restoration.

* 04C: Assembled during the third week (C) of April (04), 1967
* 67: 1967 model year
* 136: Chevrolet (1) Malibu 8-cylinder (36)
* 17: Malibu sport coupe
* ATL: Assembled at GM's Atlanta, Georgia manufacturing facility
* 26439: Unit number
* 782: Medium Gold interior
* A: Bench seat
* G: Granada Gold lower paint
* T: Capri Cream upper paint
* O: Two-tone paint

One can't help but smile when they look at a Chevelle this cool. Assembled in the hot and dry suburbs of Atlanta, Georgia, it's everything individualistic gear heads dream of from the time they utter “muscle car” to the day they trade their high octane V8 for an electric rascal motor. Layered in a smooth Granada Gold basecoat and capped with a correct Capri Cream roof, this Chevy is the product of a frame-off, nut and bolt restoration that probably took years to complete. Its body is a carefully orchestrated combination of excellent panel gaps, doors that close better than new, and a flat finish that stretches from tip to tail. And presently, its appearance is much, much better than any mass produced original.

For 1967 the mid-level Malibu utilized a conservative appearance and unique trim pieces to distinguish itself from Chevrolet's working class 300 and storied Super Sport offerings. At the front of the car, clear T3 headlights and a black-inlayed grille center a small Chevrolet crest between a fresh “CHEVELLE” header, a full chrome bumper and bright amber parking lamps. At the sides of the car, cross-flag fender emblems and quarter-mounted “Malibu” scripts hint at an upscale personality while traditional door handles and a chrome bowtie mirror perfectly complement straight wheel trim and red-inlayed rocker moldings. At the top of the car, like-new glass is traced by bright stainless drip rails, good looking stainless trim and satin-finished wipers. And at the back of the car, a body-matched valence hangs finned tail lights and an off-set “CHEVELLE” script over a second full bumper and crystal clear reverse lamps.

Under this mighty Malibu's flat hood you'll find an original L79 327 which hangs a 1967-specific 3903352 casting number between a correct 327/4-speed “EP” suffix stamp and April (D) 4th (4) 1967 (7) casting date. And although that fully restored V8 may look small in the car's super tidy engine bay, it has no problem carrying this relatively lightweight mid-size down the road just as fast as you want to go! At the top of the mill, a chrome, dual-snorkel air cleaner injects wind from a fresh filter element into high octane dino juice that's supplied by a big Holley carburetor. Below that carburetor, a familiar Winter intake funnels a perfect air/fuel mixture into vintage cast iron heads that are topped by mirrored and Chevrolet-branded valve covers. Behind those valve covers, a traditional points distributor sequences spark through high quality AC Delco Premium Wires. Cooling is provided by a correct Harrison radiator that's equipped with pliable hoses and reproduction tower clamps. And spent gases travel through a common pair of cast iron exhaust manifolds to well-mannered factory replacement pipes. Aesthetically, this sweet Chevelle's engine bay is paint shop fresh, displaying a nice combination of Chevy Orange and satin black surfaces. And small items like a reproduction Delco battery, chrome oil filler, polished fuel line and fully finished hood add a level of detail that draws fans and elicits compliments!

Behind that stout small block, a tough Muncie M21 4-speed sends torque to a rebuilt GM 12-bolt rear end. Braking is handled by a full set of correct GM drums, which were obviously rebuilt during the car's extensive restoration. Exhaust flows through bright, aluminized tubes to factory replacement mufflers and standard issue tail pipes. The original double A-arm front and 4-link rear suspension was completely rebuilt and currently features both front and rear sway bars. Above that suspension, rust-free floorpans are covered in a traditional layer of GM Satin Black paint. And at the corners of that suspension, American Racing Torq Thrust Ds spin 215/70R15 BF Goodrich Silvertown redlines around ornate chrome center caps. All lines, hoses, brackets and fasteners, which were completely replaced at the time of restoration, show little to no weathering. And everything, from this Chevy's correctly marked driveshaft to its new stainless fuel tank, is fully sorted and ready to go!

Open this A-Body's rock-solid doors and you'll find restoration-fresh black that, chosen over Medium Gold for obvious appearance reasons, presents an excellent contrast to the car's sublime paint. At the center of the floor, big bench seats are in great shape and show little to no signs of wear. In front of those seats, a warp-free dash hangs crystal clear gauges inside bright chrome trim. At the base of that dash, like-new carpet centers a traditional Hurst shifter between heavy rubber floor mats. At the sides of that carpet, horizontally pleated panels frame bright stainless trim and pliable armrests in glossy black toppers and dent-free sills. At the top of those panels, a tight headliner hangs fade-free sun visors in front of a fully functional dome light. In front of the driver, a factory steering wheel spins a tasteful “CHEVELLE” branded horn button. And behind the passengers, a fully restored trunk features a correct houndstooth mat, correct decklid decals and a full-size spare tire.

The sale of this super clean Chevelle includes a few restoration photos and a Holley component manual.

Fully restored and professionally sorted, this cool Chevrolet mid-size is a top notch classic that's ready for years of fun and miles of cruising. It's one of the last great no-nonsense, no-frills designs to come out of Detroit; and it's the kind of car your family will enjoy for generations. Whether your interest lies in killer cruisers, classic good looks, or vintage Chevy style, this Malibu has it all!
