Cool Old Truck

Ralph Barga's

1940 GMC 1/2-Ton

From Ralph:

This was a Family project and here is a photo of our 1940 GMC pickup we purchased in June 1996 This truck had been sitting in a barn since 1960.

Since then we have installed a '74 Nova subframe, added a 355 Chevrolet engine with flat top pistons, mild street cam, rolling rocker arms, Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, 750CFM Edelbrock carb. The rest off the drive train is a turbo 350 transmission with a B&M shift kit and limited slip rear end from the Nova.

Interior improvement include reupholstered bucket seats out of a '84 Buick Regal, tilt column out of a '78 Firebird, Hurst ratchet shifter, homemade red oak console with cup holders and red oak shifter console. The metal truck bed floor has been replaced with white oak finished with clear Polyurethane, and painted bed strips.

On the exterior it has PPG Deltron Emerald Green (GM)Base/clear coat. Wheels are 15x7 outlaw II's, Tires are 205/60R 15 on front, 255/60R 15 BF Goodrich t/a Radials on rear. This was my first attempt at a off frame restoration, body work and automotive paint job.

You have a great web site! with many great looking trucks, very helpful technical section for '39s and '40s, and Your links helped out with parts needed to finish this project.
