    A thing or two...
I've loaded the bed of my Tacoma with a literal ton of wood pellets a couple of times. 2000 pounds on a pallet. It took the rear down to the bump stops and the front suspension lifted a little. Luckily it was only a couple of miles from the hardware store and my house. I also just moved and hauled all the stuff the moving company wouldn't take (guns, ammo, powder, primers, etc). I'm not sure exactly how much I was hauling in total, but I estimated the load to be atleast 1000 pounds. Made the 2000 mile trek riding a couple of inches off the bump stops. LOL

A cord of wood is 8'X4'X4' and would weigh 3500 lbs. You couldn't load that in a 3/4 ton long bed truck. A rick is 1/3 of a cord and slightly over what a Tacoma is rated for. It will be a load, but for a short distance you'll probably be OK.

I have an 02 2.7 4cyl, and we burn wood all winter for heat in TN. I regularly pile mine over the cab as high as I can WHILE pulling a trailer stacked with all I can get on it, and go up mountains. You just can't hurt them

Check the sticker on the cab when you open your driver side door. The rated payload for your rig is listed there along with lots of other weight related information.

Never buying firewood from you if you think you're hauling a cord in the bed of a Tacoma. My old Dodge is limited to around a 1/2 cord, and it's got a full 8 foot bed and a much heavier suspension than a Tacoma.

I am about to get some wood for winter too. Guy told me a face cord would be heaped in a Tacoma.

He said in a 6.5ft box it's pretty much even with rails. My drive would be about 15 miles with it. I'm thinking about just using my trailer.

Here's my Dodge loaded with a 1/2 cord of green:

The Dodge has a deeper, wider, longer bed than my Tacoma, and a 1/2 cord is still slightly rounded over. There's no way a full cord would fit in a Tacoma, even if it could handle the weight.

    Good plan.

    dump_wood_zpszeon3fnv_42cbf018192f3a78d86d5f8db81bd9fa3878b52d.jpg

But I still use the bed of my truck when I find some for the taking on the side of the road. Yesterday I picked up a little ricky of cut log birch.

I have a 2" AAL and air bags, though.

Nice! I just figure why even bother stressing the truck if I have a trailer on hand...

I've got a 5ft by 12ft utility trailer and I piled a 75 ft oak tree (green wood) in it and hauled it 30 miles down the road. She was squatting but no problems.

Your good. Loaded my 2.7 standard cab up to the bed rails with dry oak and maple, then proceeded to haul it 50 miles down the interstate holding 75 mph. So yeah, I think your good for 5 miles.
