1977 Morgan Plus 8 Transmission: manualMileage:66236The Morgan Plus 8 began production in 1968 and continued all the way through until 2004. The iconic Plus 8 returned in 2012 for a further six years, ending production again in 2018. Its iconic design remained largely unchanged throughout its life, lightweight construction, and powerful V8 engine. The Plus 8 is built on a steel chassis with a handcrafted aluminium body and Morgan's famous ash wooden frame. The Plus 8 is powered by the tried and tested 3.5 litre Rover V8 engine, which provides exhilarating acceleration, aided further by the immensely low weight of around 830kg. It also features a five-speed manual transmission. This particular example presents beautifully in dark green with a beige leather interior. The interior looks amazing, having been retrimmed in 2021 at the cost of £4,100 by an ex-Morgan employee, who completed the work exactly how it would have been done by Morgan themselves. The bodywork looks equally as impressive, it isn't freshly painted to concours standard, but it certainly doesn't require any attention. The car is supplied with full weather gear, including side screens, tonneau cover and hood. The engine is where the magic happens on this example, having been fitted with Viper fast road camshafts, Rhoades lifters, gas flowed heads, Hedman manifolds and four-barrel Holley carburettor. Our vendor reports this car is very fast and would make an excellent hill climb or sprint car, whilst remaining very useable on the road. The car was dyno tested at 284bhp, offering a strong improvement over the original engine. The car comes with a good amount of paperwork with a detailed handwritten record of works carried out between 2003 and 2011 and a strong amount of invoices detailing various works carried out over the years. Our vendor confesses he is a 'tinkerer' who enjoys having a project on the go, so is selling his beloved Morgan mainly to free up some space in his workshop. Having owed various classic cars over the years, he admits he enjoys restoring them but possibly doesn't give them the use they deserve. This is a fantastic example of the mighty V8 powered Morgan, which presents great value for money when compared with its rivals of the day.

1905 Maxwell Model H 16HP Touring Engine no. 10146196.5 ci, 2-cylinder Horizontally-Opposed Side Valve Engine16hp3-Speed Manual TransmissionSemi-Elliptic Leaf Spring Suspension 2-Wheel Drum Brakes*Highly original example*Top of the line, larger horsepower model by Maxwell*HCCA Tour eligible*The earliest surviving 1905 Model HMAXWELL AUTOMOBILESFinanced by Detroit sheet metal manufacturer Benjamin Briscoe and East Coast plutocrat J P Morgan, ex-Oldsmobile and Northern engineer Jonathan D Maxwell built his first car - an advanced twin-cylinder design with water cooling, mechanical inlet valves, two-speed planetary transmission, shaft drive and right-hand steering wheel - in 1904. The twin proved an enormous success; a four-cylinder model joined the line-up for 1906 and Maxwell expanded from its Tarrytown, New York base, opening factories in Auburn, Indiana and Rhode Island. Sound engineering was complemented by a series of headline-grabbing publicity stunts that helped boost sales, none more successful than a transcontinental trip from New York to San Francisco undertaken by a team of four lady drivers in 1909. The following year the firm sold over 20,000 cars, a total exceeded only by Ford and Buick. From this high point Maxwell went into decline. Briscoe's ambitious expansion plans proved disastrous; most of the factories were sold off and Jonathan Maxwell moved production to Detroit. Hit hard by the post-WWI depression, Maxwell merged - unsuccessfully - with Chalmers and acquired a new president in the person of Walter Percy Chrysler, whose new marque would rise from the Maxwell-Chalmers ashes.THE MOTORCAR OFFEREDOne of the handful of completely unrestored cars in the collection, according to information on file, this early as found, discovery example of the Maxwell was acquired by the current ownership from noted collector Gibb Moyer of Pennsylvania, alongside one of the pioneer Cadillacs in this same collection. The car is listed in the registry of these cars as the earliest surviving example of the Model H, as supplied to the owners by historian Vern Campbell and a limited file of information accompanies the car, including an original sales brochure for the model. Features of the model included the right-hand drive five-passenger tourer body with side-entrance doors for the rear passengers, an innovative design in its day that allowed passengers to alight direct onto the sidewalks rather than onto the road, as would be the case with a rear-entrance tonneaus it succeeded. This Maxwell is a very interesting example of why all that the movement for preserving automobiles is important to the hobby and in the grander scheme to the history of the industry, for it almost certainly represents a virtual 'time capsule' of how Maxwell built their automobiles more than a century ago. In being so unspoiled it demonstrates just how fine the leather and workmanship of the car's leather upholstery was, and that is matched by the car's high-quality paintwork which has survived nearly a dozen decades. The car appears to retain almost all of its original upholstery as well as period accessories including 'Climax' headlamps, by Silby & Pitman of New York, Atwood sidelamps, and an New Jersey 'Autocoil' to its dash. While the aesthetics are for the most part original and aged, the mechanical component was worked on in house here, and has been rebuilt, further a starter motor set up has been added. This is a car that deserves and rewards close inspection. It is certain to be appreciated in Preservation Classes or indeed to be carefully enjoyed on Horseless Carriage Club events. 1933 Morgan 1,100cc SportsRegistration no. ABH 123Frame no. D1315Engine no. LTOWZ/Z 26465SMFirst registered on 7th April 1933 in Buckinghamshire, this Morgan three-wheeler is believed to have started life as a Super Sports before being re-bodied as a Sports in the late 1950s. There is no firm history, but the car appears to have spent some time in Huntingdonshire before being acquired by Howard Alan des Forges of Bromley, Kent in 1997, passing to our vendor in 2001 having been restored in 2000. Recent work carried out includes a full engine and gearbox rebuild three years ago. Major new items fitted include the following:Barrels and pistons (standard size)Pressed-up crankshaft and con-rods (Merlin Engineering)Valves guides and springsRocker armsBearingsSet of gears and gearbox bearingsOther notable features include a radiator rebuilt with a new correct-for-year honeycomb core (Bob Angel); an owner-fitted valve guide oiling system; flashing indicators; and a Clarrie Coombes front wheel brake conversion. The body is new, as are the seats and trim, while the chassis has been refurbished. Many events have been completed at home and abroad with no issues, and the Morgan is described by the vendor as 'A1' throughout and ready to go. It should be noted that very few miles have been covered since the engine rebuild and that running-in needs to be completed. Keys present.Footnotes:All lots are sold 'as is/where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

It is the point of no return, where nothing can resist the immense gravitational pull of the black hole. In giving this work such a universal title Newson not only announces this piece as an important fulcrum or pivotal moment in his constantly developing creative process but also reminds us of the importance of exploration and innovation in his work. As a six-year-old boy Newson remembers watching NASA's Apollo moon landings and feeling "a sense of utopia; a sense of optimism pervaded" and he recalled that "it led me to want to create things, to explore things, to be ambitious." By embracing science and technology as both an inspiration and a fundamental basis for his work Newson inspired a new generation of designers to explore industrial advances in materials, to use more traditional ones in innovative applications and incorporate new digital technology in design and production in the creative process itself. Event Horizon is a clear evolution of the Black Hole Table first designed whilst working in Japan in 1988. The beautiful fluidity of this piece was achieved through the use of polyurethane and carbon fibre. In Newson's best-known piece Lockheed Lounge, from the same year, he looked to recreate this plasticity in what he described as a "fluid metallic form, like a giant blob of mercury". However, he was to admit "I never wanted it to be covered in panels. That was the only way I could think of to achieve something close to the effect I visualized." In Event Horizon he realised the effect in metal that he had only previously been able to imagine. The circumstances of how this was achieved were serendipitous but also fitting to Newson's central design tenets. In 1991 Newson was looking to buy his ultimate car; an Aston Martin DB4, manufactured between 1958 and 1963. He went to view one in a car body shop just outside London that specialised in restoring Aston Martins. There he discovered the highly skilled craftsmen creating beautifully fluid car panels. He commented that "What they do is more akin to silversmithing. They work metal as if it were a piece of fabric or plasticene. What you see is this incredibly sensual and refined object." He showed them one of his studies and described what improvements he was looking to achieve. By introducing a small, undetectable degree of positive curvature in the tabletop panel, they were able to give it the strength it needed to withstand the curvature introduced at the edges. A groove was also placed along the top, lending subtle character to the surface and adding enough reinforcement to prevent the top from flexing. Newson wanted the table to be as light as possible while still having inherent strength. The ends of the table are rolled inward for reinforcement, adding a decidedly aerodynamic element reminiscent of the grille of a sports car or the air intake of a jet engine. Painting the inner surface to give it a perfectly lacquered finish was another challenge, requiring the talent of highly specialized auto painting experts. He initially used three colours to celebrate European motorsport; British racing green, Bugatti blue and as in the present work, Ferrari red. He later added orange, yellow and lime green as variations. Event Horizon plays on the dichotomies of mass and space, solid and liquid. Just as an astrophysical Event Horizon alters space and time, the point of no return between reality and theory, Newson has created his own point of departure. A continuous skin like form whose interior volume feels larger than the exterior surface. Its strength appears to come, not from the delicate structure, but from the void below the surface and the hollow funnel legs, which in turn draw you in like black holes. Its fluid sculptural qualities contrast the simple utilitarian nature of the object. From concept, production and realisation this work encapsulates all of Marc Newson's ideologies making it one of his finest masterpieces. Please note: ARR aplies to this lotCondition Report: Please contact the department for all condition report enquiries on pictures@dreweatts.com Condition Report Disclaimer

Innovative, early 1960s Formula Junior/Monoposto car wearing the all enveloping (streamline) bodywork originally fitted to John Cooper's 1959 French Grand Prix entry. It was fashionable in Formula One in the mid 1950s to have all-enveloping streamlined bodywork for the faster circuits of the calendar. In 1954/55, the Mercedes-Benz cars ran bodywork that was genuinely streamlined and the likes of Connaught, Maserati, Vanwall and Cooper all tried full-scale bodywork, which perhaps may not have been aerodynamically streamlined, but certainly enclosed the open wheels resulting in a reduction in drag. In 1958, Rob Walker had some good results in his F2 Cooper with the streamliner body, especially at the fast Reims circuit. For the 1959 French Grand Prix at Reims, John Cooper brought along his latest streamlined bodywork for Jack Brabham’s F1 car. It had been briefly tested in the rain at a wet Silverstone test session, however at the fast French circuit, and especially along the Soissons straight, the car tended to become airborne, and it was quickly converted back to its original open-wheeled bodywork. The complexities of downforce were not fully understood in those days and it’s not surprising that an aluminium profile built to resemble an aircraft wing would naturally want to fly when it reached ‘take off’ speed. Streamlined bodywork was not used in 1960, and in 1961, Streamliners were banned altogether.John Moore, supplier of Lockheed brakes and clutches to the race car builders of the day, noticed the abandoned ‘streamliner’ bodywork sitting in the rafters at the Cooper Car Company whilst visiting the works one day and quickly acquired the body with a plan to race a car in both the 1962 Monoposto and Formula Championships. His idea was that the car could have dual bodywork, sports and single seater, to suit a variety of championshipsJohn Moore also supplied Ken Tyrrell, and his next acquisition was some prototype Formula Junior uprights, Condor wheels and 8'', iron-lined alloy brake drums. With a chassis cleverly fabricated to support both the sports car and single-seater body panels, he entered both Championships, winning the 1962 Monoposto Championship including three lap records with an average speed of an incredible 93mph around the Silverstone GP circuit. The car ran a Ford E93A side-valve engine fuelled through a Weber 45DCOE and an early Mini gearbox with chain drive to the rear wheels.John Moore sold the car to Derek Edwards who, in 1963, fitted a Formula Junior BMC engine and raced it until 1970. The car was subsequently raced by Malcom Hadley-Saw who was a member of the Essex 750 MC and his flamboyant exploits were recorded in a video called ‘’Charge of the Flight Brigade’’ at one race at Mallory Park (video incl.) In 1971, it was purchased by Bill Wheeler with ambitions to race in Formula 4 but he left for Australia before the car had turned a wheel. In 1990, David Morgan, the 750 MC archivist, bought the Warwick and partially restored it before, in 2000, it became the property of our vendor, himself an accomplished engineer, and raced by him in the 750 MC Trophy Series with some success. The last couple of outings were at the Crystal Palace Sprints in 2010 and 2011, coming second in class to Simon Taylor’s HWM Chevrolet. We understand that it will be supplied to sale with two 1,172 cc Ford side-valve engines. This incredible car has a history that puts it in the sweet spot of early 1960s innovation with Cooper at its heart and a car that would be welcome at prestigious motorsport events when there was a class for racers of that era. It’s accompanied by a fascinating history file, great provenance and some period photos.A lovely piece of motorsport history first hammered into shape in the days of Mercedes’ legendary W196 Streamliner. SpecificationMake: WARWICKModel: SPORTS/FJYear: 1961Chassis Number: TBARegistration Number: N/ATransmission: ManualMake: Click here for more details and images

Only six of these powerful, bespoke Morgan Roadsters were built, with five remaining in the UK.On its introduction in 2014, the AR V6 was the most powerful racing car that Morgan had ever sold and the ultimate race-prepared Morgan. Based on their 3.7-litre V6 Roadster, the AR V6 benefited from a range of track-focused enhancements and was the first-ever Morgan to feature 5-link rear suspension and a body with no doors, and a weight-saving heightened passenger side panel. Also aiming to reduce weight as much as possible, a lightened battery, brake system, split-billet wheels and interior were all utilised, ensuring a dry weight of 850kg. Technical enhancements included a digital dashboard display, a first for any Morgan, a 320bhp ECU with single mass flywheel and a modified timing chain tensioner resulting in a Marque-best, power to weight ratio of 376bhp per tonne.Morgan’s motorsport division, AR Motorsport, were very bullish with press releases, stating the ARV6 “has been designed with one thing in mind – competing in motorsport and winning races. While offering performance and handling that goes beyond any Morgan-produced race car that has previously been available, AR Motorsport assures prospective buyers that the AR V6 will be ''the perfect Morgan race car for experienced racers and novices alike”However, it wasn’t to be, as given its comprehensive specification, it simply wasn’t commercially viable. Only six were built and five of these remain in the UK.Over recent years, several AR V6 have competed in the Morgan Challenge Series, now in its 42nd year, a one-make series featuring at circuits around the UK. The Challenge regularly attracts significant grids with Morgans racing in many classes. The competition is fierce, however the gentlemanly spirit of the series has earned a high level of respect amongst fellow motorsport enthusiasts. This particular example was bought new by its current owner in 2016 and has been enjoyed with some success at various events over the years. Our vendor is particularly fastidious and we understand that has spent over £50,000 on further developing and upgrading the car following its delivery from Morgan, however it remains road-legal and has been supported and generally looked after by Richard Thorne, a respected specialist in competition and fast-road Morgans. As with any competition car, it’s recommended that prospective purchasers check the validity and currency of any safety-related equipment. This AR V6 is undoubtedly the coolest Morgan racer on the planet and, given that only six were built globally at over £60,000 new, it would take a brave person to say no at this very sensible guide, considering the level of investment involved in preparing the car to this level.SpecificationMake: MORGANModel: ARV6Year: 2016Chassis Number: SA94437H280004116Registration Number: K400 MOGTransmission: Manual Engine Number: E4289008NB Drive Side: Right-hand DriveMake: RHDClick here for more details and images

Lot 405

Melling's prototype and demonstrator, this is one of only two in the UK and seven in the World, this striking, V8-engined Roadster was the creation of legendary engine designer, Al Melling. Offered at No Reserve.Rochdale-based Al Melling is perhaps best known as a prodigious designer of powerful engines and over the years has worked on design projects with Norton Motorcycles, Lamborghini, Chevrolet, Leyton House F1 (Ilmor) and Benetton. He also worked closely with TVR and Melling Consultancy Design (MCD) were responsible for the design of the AJP8 and AJP6 which TVR developed into the TVR Speed Six engine– a high-torque, 24-valve canted straight six – which was cheaper to produce and more refined for road cars. Although TVR carried out further extensive in-house development of the engines, these landmark power plants proved that MCD could finally produce an engine. However, Mr Melling’s ambitions did not stop there as, having been involved at the sharp end with TVR, he felt that he could design a better road car and the Melling on offer today was his vision of what the next TVR Griffith should have been.To be known as the Melling Wildcat, this prototype example was built in Rochdale in 2008, and with EU funding secured soon after, full production commenced. However, a skills shortage in Rochdale followed by an expensive move to the Autodromo do Algarve coincided with the start of a major recession and, sadly, with the premature passing of Mrs Melling. So with only seven cars finished, that was the end of that. The car on offer today is listed as Chassis #701 and, we understand, was the prototype for forthcoming UK-spec production cars and used as a demonstrator. It was purchased by our vendor with around 2,000 miles on the clock and he was captivated, as most people are, by the car’s stunning looks. However, it was a prototype and although it performed as he had hoped, it remained a little unresolved in the handling department. There was no option but to deal with this and our determined vendor quietly worked his way through all the issues with the help of one or two knowledgeable racing engineers. Modifications included a strengthened chassis, redesigned suspension geometry, new shock absorbers, redesigned steering geometry and the addition of power-assisted steering.Further improvements during our vendor’s four years of ownership include a full professional respray in stunning Mazda “Soul Red Crystal”, new billet aluminium wheels made by Image Wheels of Tipton, Aluminium flat floor underside riveted, a custom stainless exhaust system by MJA performance, a new heavy-duty McLeod racing clutch, a new grille fabricated and drivers lights added to give that classic 60s GT look, custom one-off leather Corbeau bucket seats with a Wildcat logo and the whole interior and boot were retrimmed by an ex-Morgan trimmer/upholsterer.It's powered by a Chevrolet LS 5.7-litre V8, offering around 450bhp and 407lb.ft, mated to a new Tremec 5-speed gearbox and a 9" American axle and factory performance figures suggest 0-60mph in 3.5 seconds on its way to 180mph. The car is accompanied by its history file containing a number of invoices, the V5C showing ownership as the Melling Car Company, a Melling relative and our vendor, plus some additional paperwork relating to the car's initial registration.SpecificationMake: MELLINGModel: WILDCATYear: 2008Chassis Number: MWR46708P07100701Registration Number: V10 MRMTransmission: ManualDrive Side: Right-hand DriveMake: RHDInterior Colour: Black/RedClick here for more details and images

1935 Morgan Super Sports Threewheeler Chassis no. D 1298 Engine no. MX 4737For further information on this lot please visit the Bonhams website•Desirable Super Sports model•High-performance Matchless engine•Purchased in 1991•Much loved and enthusiastically campaignedIts superior power-to-weight ratio enabled H F S Morgan's humble, three-wheeled cyclecar to outperform many a larger engined four-wheeler, and its maker was not slow to capitalise on his creation's competition potential. A Gold Medal in the 1911 London-Exeter-London Reliability Trial with Morgan himself driving was followed by victory in the inaugural cyclecar race at Brooklands the following year, Harry Martin taking the chequered flag three minutes ahead of the field. Racetrack successes led directly to road-going spin-off in the form of the Grand Prix model, introduced for 1914. The first Aero sports model, inspired by the Grand Prix, followed immediately after WWI. Subsequent technological developments included the fitting of front brakes, operated by hand lever, from 1924 and the adoption of a new chassis - the M-type - on the new Super Sports model in 1928. This new chassis was some 2½' lower than its predecessor and undoubtedly helped Morgans trounce the opposition at the New Cyclecar Club's meeting at Brooklands later that year. In 1931 a conventional three-speeds-plus-reverse gearbox was introduced and the model name abbreviated to simply 'Super Sports', the old two-speed transmission disappearing soon after. Morgan used a variety of proprietary engines over the years, though its favoured supplier was usually J A Prestwich (JAP) of Tottenham, North London, although from the mid-1930s onwards Morgan three-wheelers, like George Brough's superlative motorcycles, were fitted with Matchless v-twin engines in preference to those from JAP. A favourite of Ulrike Bühner, this Morgan was purchased at the RAF Museum, Hendon auction in December 1991. When first purchased the car was so much loved that it even took centre stage in the dining room, the dining table being disassembled to accommodate it! Ulrike used the car on many occasions, including local events, even in the rain. The car is offered with the 1991 purchase invoice; customs documents; an old-style UK buff logbook (issued 1947); an old UK V5 registration document; three 'Oldtimer' events programmes; and numerous other documents and correspondence. For further information on this lot please visit the Bonhams website

For many of us the real star of Ron Howard's 2013 film 'Rush'  was the McLaren M23 and we are delighted to have one of the 2 M23 replicas built for the film on our own Red Carpet. For those who haven't seen it, the 2013 Film 'Rush' was the story of the dramatic ups and downs of the 1976 Formula One Championship. Peter Morgan, the film's writer comments; "Set against the sexy, glamorous golden age of Formula 1 racing in the 1970s, the film is based on the true story of a great sporting rivalry between handsome English playboy James Hunt (Chris Hemsworth) and his methodical, brilliant opponent, Austrian driver Niki Lauda (Daniel Bruhl). The story follows their distinctly-different personal styles on and off the track, their loves, and the astonishing 1976 season in which both drivers were willing to risk everything to become World Champion in a sport with no margin for error: "If you make a mistake, you die". Peter MorganWhen asked if anything was wrong with the film after its premier, Niki Lauda famously quoted, ‘’Yes, just one thing, I can't have a piss-up with James afterwards.’’ He also said that he knew Peter Morgan as a scriptwriter was the only person he trusted to deliver a ‘non Hollywood’ production. The result was a highly acclaimed, reasonably accurate and totally charged depiction of one of Formula One's most closely fought World Championship deciders. (Maybe 2021 is a contender.)Two 1976 McLaren M23s were built as replicas to ensure the production team had drivable availability of a McLaren M23 on set and pro-drivers on standby. These were very clever replicas produced down to the finest detail and indistinguishable from the real car in the film scenes. Offered here is one of the cars which was purchased soon after the film debuted by our vendor who has enjoyed the adventure of ownership ever since. It displays a very convincing patina in the metal which takes you back, at first glance, as the iconic livery is etched into any motorsport enthusiast's mind from 1976- a season that elevated James Hunt to global English hero and sportsman, the like of which we may never see again. The car has been on static display for a number of years and, we understand, remains as it was when it came off the film set so may well require very little to make it run as in the film.Obviously not suitable for racing but, with a myriad of possibilities for promotion or just a fascinating addition to any collection, we are most intrigued to see where the next chapter of the story takes this 1976 McLaren M23 re-creation.SpecificationMake: MCLARENModel: M23Year: 1976Chassis Number: FILM CAR 1Registration Number: F CAR 1Transmission: ManualClick here for more details and images

Very impressive Plus 8 restored and upgraded to a level rarely seen.Although Rover's attempts to acquire the Morgan Car Company in 1966 had proved fruitless, it nevertheless granted the sports car manufacturer access to its newly acquired, ex-Buick lightweight aluminium V8 engine with a view to cementing a supply contract. Hired by the Malvern works to assess the powerplant's merits/suitability, race engineer Maurice Owen lost little time in shoehorning one into a Morgan Plus 4 chassis. With trials of the resultant prototype successfully undertaken in 1967, the Plus 8 debuted at the following year's Earls Court Motor Show. Its lengthy production run has seen the Plus 8 alter little in outward appearance, save for ever widening wheelarches accommodating fatter rubber, yet beneath the skin the changes have been innumerable. Better gearboxes, fuel injection, rack-and-pinion steering, improved corrosion protection and paint, telescopic rear dampers, air bags and the obligatory catalytic converter have all become part of the Plus 8 picture over the years, along, of course, with bigger engines to offset the inevitable increase in weight.Dating from 1990, E9 MOG was chosen by our vendor for it’s exceptional build quality having been restored by renowned Morgan expert Kevin Vernon of Tudor Motors. During the process the car benefitted from many refinements and upgrades and it's estimated that the parts and labour costs for the enhancements and upgrades ‘E9 MOG’ enjoys, would be in the region of £40,000 in today’s market. These include;· RPI new Land Rover 4.6-litre V8 engine - recent Dyno rolling-road test indicating 230bhp· RPI Piper 272 fast road cam· RPI lightened flywheel· RPI Superflare plenum trumpets· RPI chromed Morgan plenum chamber· Jaguar/Bosch AFM· FSE adjustable rising-rate fuel pressure regulator· Mallory Unilite distributor (bespoked to the car)· Mallory high performance chrome coil· RPI chromed valve covers· Morgan branch manifolds (metalized)· Stainless twin Morgan exhaust system· JEGS polished stainless exhaust tips· Griffin bespoke performance-fit aluminium radiator· SPAL electric cooling fan· Mulberry polished aluminium overflow· Morgan R380 5-speed gearbox (rebuilt)· Morgan Salisbury steering rack· Mulberry anti-tramp bars· Shortened Morgan rebound springs· Morgan suspension rear hoop· Hard chromed Kingpins with bronze bushes· Rutherford AVO shock absorbers (front & rear)· Caparo Morgan brake hydraulics & calipers (upgraded)· Portferfield fast road brakes· Kunifer brake lines & stainless flexible brake hoses· 4 x New Michelin Primacy tyres· Refurbished alloy wheels· Fully refurbished chassis (stripped, primed, painted & sealed) with stainless steel fittings· Wooden chassis elements removed & re-treated with another Cuprinol coat· New Superform (lightweight) front & rear wings· Polished Heart of England front & rear plinths, door latch covers etc· Morgan telescopic mirror bases with upgraded mirrors· Chromed Morgan windscreen supports· Polished stainless luggage carrier· Jaguar X120 Tri-pod halogen headlamps· Lucas LR576 chrome sport lamps· Bespoke Kauffelt dash made by Mathias (incorporating VDO instruments)· Bespoke rear storage bins· 6006E 6-Disc CD multi-changer (Burr Walnut Fascia) with Infinity speakers· Original mohair top, tonneau & side-screens· Classic chrome lap-latch seatbelt systemThe car appears superbly finished in Bentley Sapphire Blue with a discreet pearl-effect and the original leather upholstery has been well cared-for and remains in excellent condition. This wonderful Plus 8 benefits from a recent service, rolling-road test set-up (230bhp), a ‘no-advisory’ MOT and pleasingly, our vendor is generously including the appropriate registration E9 MOG in the sale.SpecificationMake: MORGANModel: PLUSYear: 1990Chassis Number: R10326Registration Number: E9 MOGTransmission: ManualDrive Side: Right-hand DriveClick here for more details and images

Lot 676

One of just nine right-hand drive examples of the 60 Series 2 Aero 8s, this one-owner from new Morgan has been fastidiously maintained and has aged particularly well.Released in 2000, the Aero 8 was Morgan’s first properly ‘new’ car since their financially underwhelming Plus 4 Plus of 1964, and personified the fabulous notion of traditional styling with modern underpinnings. Ditching Morgan’s tradition of using an aluminium-skinned wooden body with a heavy steel chassis, the Aero 8 was revolutionary for both Morgan and the wider sports car world, as it featured an all-aluminium bonded chassis.Designed and engineered in-house with a ‘form follows function’ undertone, the main principle of the car was lightweight luxury. The interior features a comfortable combination of polished hardwoods, hand-stitched leather and electronic technology to create a driving environment that is efficient, ergonomic and sumptuous. Despite all this opulence, the driving experience is hugely responsive, largely due to the overall weight of the car remaining minimal at 1,180kg. Unusual as it does not feature anti-roll bars, the Aero 8 walked the fine line between sports car and supercar. Originally fitted with BMWs thumping-yet-smooth M62 4.4-litre V8, the Series 2 was upgraded to the N62 4.4 litre BMW powerplant, pushing out 333bhp and 450Nm torque, mated to an uprated 6-speed Getrag gearbox resulting in 0-62mph in just 4.1 seconds and a top speed of 160mph.This rare example is made all the more special due to its single 17-year ownership. In excellent condition both mechanically and cosmetically, this enthusiast-owned example stands its ground very well as a strong part in Morgan’s recent history. The maintenance and general care that this car has experienced through its life is evident in its outstanding condition. It's superbly presented in the lovely colour combination of Bentley Silver Pearl Metallic paint over Old Yarwood Red leather and the interior remains fresh without the usual heavy bolster wear on the driver’s side. With a valid MOT until 23rd August 2023, this Aero 8 has covered just 36,483 (atoc) miles from new, averaging a whisker over 2,000 miles a year. Contained within the significant and comprehensive lever-arch history file are details of the full Morgan agent service history from new, with any and all maintenance work undertaken and documented, along with the original owner’s handbook and associated Morgan documentation.Despite receiving initial criticism for its seemingly ‘cross-eyed’ look, the Aero 8 has aged remarkably well, with its unusual appearance now being a huge factor in its desirability. With its striking looks, rarity factor and a rumbling 4.4-litre V8, you will certainly turn heads for all the right reasons. The cherished registration number, V33 ATE, will remain with the car.SpecificationMake: MORGANModel: AERO 8Year: 2005Chassis Number: SA9ER080004J0329Registration Number: V33 ATETransmission: ManualEngine Number: 5275Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 36453 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: Old Yarnwood Red LeatherClick here for more details and images

1967 Morgan Plus 4 Roadster Registration no. Not UK Registered (Taxes Paid) Chassis no. 6463 Engine no. CT75492•Imported from the USA•NOVA document available•Seats recently re-trimmed•Desirable left-hand driveFootnotes:Introduced in 1950, the Standard Vanguard-engined Plus 4 represented a major step forward in the evolution of the Morgan sports car. Although the traditional chassis layout was retained - what else would one expect from Morgan? - the frame underwent extensive alteration, gaining in both wheelbase and track dimensions while being considerably strengthened. The centrally mounted Moss gearbox was carried over from the 4/4. A few years later - in 1953 - Morgan began the process of updating the car's appearance, which culminated in the arrival of the quintessential Morgan look in 1954. One unfortunate consequence of the 2,088cc Vanguard engine's adoption was the fact that it placed the Plus 4 in the over-2-litre class for racing purposes, forcing it to compete against rivals of much larger capacity. As a result, the 1,991cc Triumph TR engine was made available from 1953, this more-powerful option being preferred by most customers. In 1956 the revised TR3 power unit began to be phased in, offering 100bhp and making the Plus 4 'the cheapest 100mph car made in Britain' according to The Motor magazine. Around 1961, Plus 4s began to leave the Malvern factory fitted with the 2,138cc TR4 engine and from 1965 with the 104bhp TR4A unit, the latter cars representing the Triumph-engined Morgan in its ultimate form. This left-hand drive Plus 4 has been imported from the USA and comes with the all-important NOVA document. The vendor advises us that it is a matching-numbers car that has spent most of its life in the dry climate of Arizona. The odometer reading is 58,487 miles, which the vendor believes may be genuine judging from the car's condition. At present the car runs well, but having been laid up for two years requires brake and clutch work and a thorough inspection of the electrics as it has some issues with the indicators, though we are advised these faults are relatively easy to fix on these cars. The Morgan comes complete with a soft-top, which is worn and may need replacing; it also has side windows in good condition. The seats have just been rebuilt and trimmed in black leather. This Morgan is far from being a 'barn find', and with a little 'TLC' could be a great weekend driver. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

Lot 424

Attractively presented in Metallic Graphite with Ox Blood hide, and having covered only 3,475 miles from new, this little 4/4 has obviously led a charmed life.Originally ordered on 4th September 1976, through Deer Leap Garage in Berkhamsted, in the days when Morgan had an enviable order book, this particular 4/4 was destined not to reach its first owner, Mr F. N. Cory-Wright until 24th August 1983, with the specification changing from that originally ordered to the far more desirable vehicle which remains today as it left Malvern all those years ago. With the original owner travelling and working abroad as a Queens Messenger within the Diplomatic Corp, the car was destined to remain in storage for many years which it did until the owner's passing in 2016.It is noted that the very low mileage was recorded at that time as just 1,745 with, interestingly, several of the diplomatic bags remaining with the car to this day. The family then made the difficult decision to pass the Morgan on to a new home and accordingly it was fully recommissioned by Allon White Sports Cars, Morgan Dealers of some repute, with £5,000 being invested prior to its sale in October 2017.Sold again, some eighteen months later having covered a nominal additional 607 miles, to make way for a new Morgan, the 4/4 is as original as it could be with the exception of a new Dark Red mohair roof topping off the outstanding Metallic Grey bodywork and Dark Red hide interior. Featured in The Essential Morgan Buyers Guide by Phil Benfield, this exceptionally- low-mileage Morgan, now circa 3,500, comes highly recommended and is worthy of your serious consideration.SpecificationMake: MORGANModel: 4/4 1600Year: 1983Chassis Number: C6385Registration Number: A207 BKUTransmission: ManualEngine Number: 130008-C4309Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 3475 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: Ox Blood HideClick here for more details and images

Lot 429

An older restoration to a show standard, this delightful 400 would make a fast and stylish entry in next year's Mille Miglia.Imitation is said to be the most sincere form of flattery, however, it seems a little unlikely that BMW's engineers felt particularly gratified when the Bristol Car Company obtained the rights to their automotive designs as part of Germany's post-WW2 reparations. Although there was undoubtedly a significant input from the bright aeronautical engineers at Bristol, the 400, which commenced production in 1947, was effectively a synthesis of three pre-war BMW designs, with a chassis derived from that of the 326, an engine from the 328 sports car and an aerodynamic bodyshell similar to that of the 327 coupé. The 1,971cc six-cylinder engine of the BMW 328 featured an ingenious new cylinder head, designed by Rudolf Schleicher, incorporating hemispherical combustion chambers and inclined valves without recourse to overhead, or twin camshafts. Instead, the Type 319 engine's single block-mounted camshaft and pushrod valve actuation were retained, thus avoiding an expensive redesign. Two rocker shafts were employed, one situated above each bank of valves, giving the engine an external appearance almost indistinguishable from that of a twin-overhead-cam design. Downdraft inlet ports contributed to the motor's deep breathing, and its tunability made it a popular choice for British racing car constructors, most notably Cooper, during the 1950s. Externally, Bristol's Type 85A clone of the BMW motor differed little from the German original, the most obvious difference being the adoption of SU, rather than Solex, carburettors part way through production. The most significant changes made by the Bristol designers were metallurgical, their utilisation of the highest quality materials contributing to increased engine life. A maximum output of 80bhp at 4,200rpm was claimed, which was good enough for a top speed of around 95mph.The 400's aerodynamically efficient body was constructed of steel panels on a wooden frame, with the doors, bonnet and boot-lid skinned in aluminium. Beneath the skin, the chassis boasted independent front suspension by single upper wishbones and lower transverse leaf-springs, whilst torsion bars located within the chassis members controlled the live rear axle. Contrasting with the exterior's modern appearance, the traditional wood-embellished interior was reminiscent of an earlier age. In total, 474 Bristol 400s were made between 1947 and 1950 with, it's believed, around 120 still on the road. Dating from 1948, Chassis number #460-180, on offer here, is indeed one of those original cars. It has recently benefitted from a full bodywork refurbishment with any corrosion and rust being fully addressed and removed prior to being finished to a very high standard in a lovely shade of light metallic green (an Aston Martin colour we believe possibly California Sage). The interior has been refurbished with the same attention to detail as the bodywork and looks simply spectacular in fresh Biscuit hide piped in Chocolate with matching door cards, headlining and a new carpet. The wooden dash has been removed and refinished, all instrumentation is period and in good working order and a full tool kit is in its appointed place in a box in the engine bay. The boot has also benefitted from all this attention and looks splendid with new Cinnamon carpets edged in Chocolate. For over a decade, this lovely 400 has been the property of a well known Morgan dealer's family and has been properly looked after and fettled as required to a far higher standard than one might expect from less fastidious owners. In our vendor's words "You simply have to drive it to experience how good the taut handling is and how well the motor pulls though the lovely synchromesh gear box. It feels more like 1970 than 1948."Mille Miglia eligible, this car would make a stylish, fast and comfortable entrant to the famed event. This is undoubtedly the best example of a 400 we have seen and, although prepared to a show standard, JYM II remains a practical and versatile post-war classic.SpecificationMake: BRISTOLModel: 400Year: 1948Chassis Number: 460-180Registration Number: TBATransmission: ManualEngine Number: 850 1238Drive Side: Right-hand DriveMake: RHDInterior Colour: Biscuit LeatherClick here for more details and images

Reg. no. 636 CFMChassis no. TS 5081Engine no. TS 1081FRBy 1952, the Triumph Roadster was starting to look and feel somewhat outdated, with its distinctly pre-war styling, and it was never a particularly rapid car in the first place. Fearing being left behind in the sports car market, Triumph’s owners Standard tried to purchase the Morgan company. When this fell through, they instead embarked on the development process of an up-to-date sports car. The result of this, the experimental 20TS, was displayed in October 1952 at the London Motor Show. Standard then employed BRM engineer and test-driver Ken Richardson to test-drive the car, and his feedback led to changes to tame the prototype’s wayward handling. While the prototype was built on a Standard 8 chassis with Mayflower suspension and an engine lifted straight from the Vanguard, the production version, launched a year later, had a strengthened chassis with excellent rigidity, much-improved suspension, larger brakes and a tuned engine. The car was also widened and lengthened, increasing both passenger and luggage space. The resulting TR2 had a top speed of over 100mph, a huge increase over the 80mph of the prototype. The 90bhp 2-litre engine could also propel the car to 60 in 12 seconds – excellent performance for the time. Indeed, a standard TR2 fitted with optional streamlining devices reached just over 124mph on the Jabbeke motorway in Belgium in May 1953, making it one of the fastest British cars of the time. 1954 saw a 1-2 finish in the RAC rally, as the car proved an excellent motorsport competitor. This being the ‘export or die’ era for British manufacturers, the majority of the 8638 TR2s made to 1955 went to the United States in left-hand-drive form. This TR2 was first registered with the DVLA in January 1957 – this being over a year since the end of production. Going by the chassis number and the Vintage Triumph Register’s list of surviving TR2s, it is actually a 1954 car. Restored at some point in the past, it remains in solid condition, with a very good interior, hood and sidescreens. A tonneau cover is also present. The bodywork is solid, although there is some micro-blistering and spidering to most areas of the paintwork. The chassis and underbody are good and appear to have been painted when the car was restored. The car has been stored for a while but has been started by the vendor with fresh petrol in the carburettors, and is said to sound good, with no evidence of oil leaks. Mindful of the potential effects of modern fuel, the tank has been drained and cleaned. The wiring is said to look good, while the tyres are also good, with the spare still present in its correct location. Following recommissioning, this TR2 would be a lovely car in which to enjoy the rest of the summer, and is also eligible for various historic motorsport events, including now VSCC hillclimbs. It comes with a current V5C.

1933 Morgan 1000cc Super SportsReg. no. OC 2816Chassis no. MR847Engine no. MX929By 1933, Morgan had been building its distinctive 3-wheeled cars for over 20 years. While these had started out as basic, extremely frugal transport – and non-sporting ‘Standard’ and ‘Family’ models were still available – the 3-wheeler had also been developed into a distinctly sporting vehicle, in the form of the ‘Aero’ and ‘Super-Sports’ models. Power was supplied by a variety of JAP and Matchless engines, depending on model. 1933 was also a significant year for the company, as they introduced the F-Series three-wheelers, with side-valve Ford engines. For the sporting motorist, however, the v-twins remained the weapon of choice, and today remain some of the most recognisable of pre-war sports cars, providing surprising performance and an iconic soundtrack. This 1933 Super-Sports, fitted with the 990cc Matchless MX engine, is in excellent all-round condition, having been restored in 2012. The bodywork and chassis are in very good all round condition, while the engine has been rebuilt with new steel flywheels and new bearings, plus a new coil. The gearbox has also been rebuilt, as has the propshaft. The wheels have also been rebuilt and fitted with new tyres, while the wheel bearings are also new. The Morgan’s distinctive suspension system has been fitted with new sliders front and rear. Upgrades consist of Mini hydraulic brakes, plus front and rear shock absorbers, meaning this 3-wheeler should handle and stop very well indeed. The car is also fitted with a GPS system, flashing indicators and wing mirrors, all very useful additions for modern driving. Eligible for all kinds of events with the VSCC, Morgan Three-Wheeler Club, and others, this exciting sports car comes with a current V5C.
