Re: 1983 trans am
What color is that? The reason I ask is because I think my 87 was originally that color; when I purchased it, it was midnight blue almost black looking. Then when I pulled the carpet of to replace it and re-do the interior, BAM, I see that color. Never really seen the color, let alone on older Trans-Am's..

Re: 1983 trans am
It appears to be 22U - Light Royal Blue Metallic. And the interior color is 27 - Dark Royal Blue Metallic.
If it has the 2 tone color option the lower is 34L Med Royal Blue Metallic.
The car looks really good, I like the colors, usually not a fan of the blue interiors, but I would drive that for sure. The 86+ 16" wheels really make it look great.
Also appears to have the original windshield from the pictures

Re: 1983 trans am
The color combination was only offered in 1983 & 1984
Here is what I found out.
In 83
The Firebird & S/Ewas offered in the 22U - Light royal Blue Metallic
The Trans Am was the Dark Royal Blue Metallic 27U, with a Black Lower accent
In 84
The Firebird was available in both the 22U & 27U
The Trans Am was still the only the 27U
The S/E was only the 22U
The Dark Royal Blue interior was available both years. I would bet that most of them with the Royal Blue had the matching interior color, and I would bet that it would be unusual to use that interior color on any other color other than the 22U & 27U.

Re: 1983 trans am
in 1987 the color was "Bright Blue Metallic" 23U, on the Trans Am they offered a Darker Midnight Blue Metallic 28U.
Of course the Blue interior was last used in 1984.
Here is the picture of my 1987 Formula 350 with the Bright Blue Metallic (23U)
Please understand that the 23U from 1988 - 1991 was the Maui Blue was lighter in color. This too was my car...

Re: 1983 trans am
At the top of the windshield there was a Blue shading, the Suns UV rays turn the blue stripe over time yellow and yours is turning yellowish brown. It is a pretty good indication that it is the original windshield or a really old windshield... I usually do not see the fade on aftermarket windshields for some reason, but I do not know why it would not happen.
You can also look at the windshield, if the car is a Van Nuys car it would have LOF Glass, but if it is a Norwood car it would have PPG glass.
1) I have never seen aftermarket LOF Glass.
2) The Original PPG stamp would be on the Passenger side, and the aftermarket PPG Glass had the stamp on the drivers side IIRC...

Re: 1983 trans am
I agree, keep it the same color, leave the 16" wheels on there and save those original hubcaps for when you sell it... The Black wheels look really good with the Black spoiler and the black mirrors...
The interior looks to be in phenomenal condition, and with a little TLC I would think you might be able to get the paint to look good too...
I like that gray/blue color, it is not something you see every day and it is a good looking color in the pictures.

Re: 1983 trans am
it looks just like the pics in person im just a perfectionist lol it still has the black stripe on the bottom of the car also.the inside is like new no rust or dents at all.this thing still has the factory ext system on it I wanted to do a knight rider con out of it but just to nice to do that.so I think eather to sell it or keep it and buy anther one and have 2 of them let the wife drive it.

Re: 1983 trans am
From what I can tell, it appears the only way to get that color on the Trans Am was to get the black stripe on the bottom.
It has a V8, which one? Does it have the LG4, L69 (HO) or the CFI?

okfoz, what color was this, if you can tell? Check the link to my thread and look at the picture with the carpet ripped out.

Doesn't look like what you posted for the 87 color. Check the inside picture because the outside was repainted to a dark blue almost black looking in the pics

That is the Midnight Blue 28U that was a Trans Am & Base Firebird only color in 1987, As far as I can tell it was NA on the Formula & GTA... Kind of like in 1987 the Yellow was a Formula only color

Re: 1983 trans am
I don't know... I know that they do not paint the inside very well, just a splash of color what you might be seeing is the primer showing through... Even the sides of my hood on my 89 has primer showing. The blue on the outside might not be the correct color, it might have originally been the 23U...
Or maybe someone in the plant painted the inside with the 23U bright blue, and they painted the outside with the 28U...
The only way to be sure would be to either A) get a hold of gm media archives or B) phs-online and see if anyone has the dealer invoice. That would tell you what color it should be... I know back in the day there were cars that were painted the wrong color from what was intended, I had a friend with a Car that was painted plumb color from the factory, but it was supposed to be a metallic gray color... The difference was one color was VV the other color was UU and whoever painted the car at the factory grabbed the wrong paint. The numbers 23 & 28 look an awful lot alike, and I know the plants used florescent lighting, so they often had to use paint markers on the top of the bumper support or I have seen on top of the radiator support so they would not get the wrong color parts on the car, or paint it the wrong color.
