Some vehicles see the paint begin to come off in as little as one year. The problem affects nearly 2 million vehicles. The program will support you whether you are the original owner or purchased the vehicle used.

Toyota White Blizzard Pearl Support Program Phase 1 Notification
Toyota began notifying owners last year in the fall. The owners of Toyotas with white or blizzard pearl paint received a letter notifying them of the upcoming support.

Phase 2 - Repair
Toyota's second phase will consist of a repair made by your local dealer at no cost to you. Any authorized Toyota Dealership can determine if a condition is covered by this Customer Support Program, not just the one from which the vehicle was purchased.

Contact your dealer if you have an affected vehicle. They will tell you the schedule and plan for repairs to your vehicle. Those owners who wish to have direct contact with Toyota on this issue can call the Toyota Customer Experience Center at 1-888-270-9371 Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 7:00 pm, Saturday 7:00 am to 4:30 pm.

If you have a Toyota with Blizzard Pearl or Super White paint that seems defective please tell us about it in the comments below. Detail your contact with Toyota and how the issue is being handled. Your experience may help a fellow owner.

2013 Highlander. Peeling white blizzard paint peeling on the A column. The strip to the right of front windshield. Rapid progression. Toyota of Cerritos says out of warranty and no recall for my model? Class action?

Toyota's Customer Support Program seems more like a publicity stunt than a thief trying to make good on the money they have defrauded consumers of. I have a white 2010 Camry purchased new from the dealer. Soon after, the paint just seemed to disappear. It was 2013 before I had time to deal with it and went to the dealer. The auto body guy said the white vehicles from that year were defective. He further said something about environmental regulations, the clear coat, and gipping the white vehicles. I was past the standard warranty so he wrote me an estimate of $4,300 + to repaint the entire vehicle. I called corporate and faxed them the quote but they refused to act honorably.

I didn't have $4,300 to buy a new dealer paint job so I saved and saved until I could afford an inferior paint job for $1,600. I had to do something because it was so embarrassing.

Recently I had the lady at the mom & pop paint shop take their unpaid time and energy to carefully supply Toyota with all of the information they requested in their initial Customer Support Program form and sent it in to Toyota. Toyota now sends me another form saying the mom & pop shop has to supply them completely different and detailed information on company letterhead that they never requested the first time. They are asking for part numbers, etc. I called Toyota and asked them why they did not ask for all of the necessary information the first time and just how much unpaid time did they expect a small paint shop to supply them. You are lucky to get one shot of free time in such a situation but Toyota seems to know that if they keep moving the goal post and purposely cause you to go back multiple times, you'll never succeed. Indeed, the lady at the paint shop refused to do more unpaid work when I told Toyota to call her themselves. Toyota's "brand" guy, Randall, could care less. Told me it was too bad for me. I'm shoot out of luck.

If Toyota were an honorable and legitimate business, they would simply offer complimentary dealer paint jobs or offer a check to consumers with no questions asked. They flat out stole our money. They sold us a defective vehicle. They have admitted it but still don't do the right thing. This is what they do to a customer who is on her third Camry and second Tacoma.

Sadly, they put out a Customer Support Program that they really fight hard not to honor. They are asking for part numbers because they are hoping you had an accident which would negate their guidelines for having any sense of moral obligation to pay back money they stole from consumers.

In the non-corporate world, the rest of us pay back 100% plus interest if we commit fraud and deception as Toyota has done. I am going to make HUGE signs that say, "TOYOTA STOLE MY MONEY! DEFECTIVE PAINT. DON'T BUY" and sit outside my two local dealerships. I encourage everyone else here to do the same in front of their dealers. Toyota needs to get the message loud and clear that we're not going to take it.

what about 2006 Lexus Gx470? Every car like mine has PAINT peeling. The auto body shop has told me it is a defect in the primer used when the car was manufactured! Fix 2006 model Lexus Gx470's ALSO! I see a class acrion coming if rhey don't add this year model in.

I have a 2008 Highlander with the paint peeling and blistering. I contacted Toyota Mfg. and was told I needed to take the vehicle to someone with 'paint experience'. I took the car to the dealer and got the body shop guy to look at it. He stated I might have a claim, but he is unable to do anything since it is not part of the recall. Told me to call Toyota again....circle complete...Toyota Mfg. will contact me if it becomes part of the recall. They stated they would reimburse me if I get it repaired, even if I do not own the car anymore.

My 2015 Rav4 limited paint (Blizzard Pearl) is flaking off. On the roof there is a large piece of paint that is missing. Around the edge of the hood is flaking off. I really would like Toyota to repaint my entire RAV4. Toyota told the local dealership to only repaint the current section that is pealing.

Matthew Smith (not verified)    October 11, 2020 - 10:16AM

unless toyota honors this problem and repaints entire vehicle it will be laat toyota i buy and its sad because all i have ever bought has been toyota

They will not fix it. They will only spot paint the area affected now. The problem is that the primer is not sticking to the metal. As time goes by other areas will also peel. To fix the problem the paint would have to be completely removed, new primer and top coat applied. About $7,000 to $10,000.

I do not plan on purchasing another Toyota because of this. No one should have to pay over $30K for a car and get treated this way.

Being that Toyota has no interest helping with my RAV4 painting issue, they have just lost a Tundra truck sell. My 2009 RAV4 is in wonderful condition except for that white paint. I will get that fixed then sell it. I will buy my full size pickup from someone that knows how to paint a vehicle.

Roy Mercer (not verified)    October 30, 2020 - 3:48PM

Just know that Toyota will patch the peeling paint only once. They will not repaint the whole car and if it peels again in the future, you are on your own. How do I know? I just got off the phone with Customer Support.

What are we supposed to do? Shouldn’t it be a class action against Toyota? They knew about this and did nothing, so we could have made a different buying decision. I asked AutoNation in 2018 were there any issues or recalls on the specific vehicle I was purchasing and they said no. But there was. Were dealers aware? What are our options? I dont wasnt to check everyday to see if there are new areas peeling and worrying about it everyday.

I am the original owner of a 2010 RAV4. The Black Forest PEARL paint color was model specific to the RAV4 at the time. Unfortunately the paint on my RAV also peeled. I called Toyota in August of 2020 and was told the program only covers Super White or Blizzard White Pearl colors this time. No reimbusement would be approved at this time if I elected to have the defective Black Forest PEARL paint on my RAV4 corrected at this time. WOW...
I have been a long time, loyal happy Toyota customer. Their quality, how they stand behind the product and how well they support their customers kept me safely rollin'. My RAV fit all but, one of the requirements for the Toyota's paint campaign correction program, it wasn't WHITE. Should have been easy, I had my estimate and documentation ready to submit. Then I called the always couteous Toyota Customer Service representative to assist me! Uhhhhh. Wake Up! Toyota's representative must have read it straight from a script. The representative did not provide me with any support or alternative assistance. What, whom or how to get their defective peeling paint product repaired on my RAV4. Dissappointed and not wanting my RAV to peeI worse I chose to
Suck-it-up-Buttercup...
The RAV4 was repaired professionally at my expense but, having peace of mind knowing it will no longer suffer the nakedness of peeling paint or prime to rust out, is priceless!!
Question, any additional colors with a PEARL paint coat peeling?
My goal, to get the color BLACK FOREST PEARL added to the campaign!
goRAVgo!

So sorry. I’m just getting ready to contact Toyota re: my 2016 Rav 4 peeling. Did you have to have your whole vehicle painted and if so, how much? Toyota should be held responsible for the paint - we spent a lot of money on our vehicle and now we probably couldn’t even trade it in. Bet Toyota doesn’t want it.

My 2014 Tacoma Blizzard White paint is flaking from all door trims and left fender. Called toyota and they kept on transferring my call to different senior representatives. They said my truck was out of warranty and that there are no recalls for it. I feel like this should be handled or looked at by lawyers.

I’m having the same problem with my 2016 Tacoma. The paint is flaking off under the hood on both side panels and is working it’s way outside of the hood to the front panel. Also my clear coat is completely gone from the hood and the roof. They are telling me the same as you that it’s out of warranty. The problem is they have recalled the Pearl white and super white on several models so it’s not a specific model problem but the color itself. I have filed an out of warranty claim but am not expecting much to come out of it. Crazy that the Toyota’s have such a great reputation but they don’t want to take care of a defect problem.

Scott Franklin (not verified)    November 5, 2020 - 9:53AM

I have 2016 Tacoma that is super White color and the paint has started to fake off the vehicle also the clear coat is completely gone from the hood of the truck and about 3/4 of the top of truck. I have contacted Toyota but the impression I got was they are not gonna fix the problem which I requested a re paint because when I took in for them to inspect it they said the super white and Pearl white colors have a defect in them to we’re the chemicals are breaking down and causing the paint to flake. I only have 48,000 miles on the truck. It seems to me that the Super white and Pearl white Tacoma should have been included in the recall because it’s not a specific vehicle but instead the color. I’m waiting on the areas to rust so it will fall under the corrosion warranty then.

2011 Avalon. Started peeling about 2016, from windshield to moonroof. Started small grew all across the front. It was also peeling along the sides of roof above the door. I paid 250.00 last November to get it painted. I should be refunded and the entire roof repainted, its still peeling. I tallked to the 800 number they said take to body shop and then they would send me to a toyota dealership. For such an expensive car, it was an embracement.
