What's New for the 2018 Ford F-150?
A perennial favorite among those who love capable and durable pickup trucks, the Ford F-150 adds numerous updates for 2018. Chief among them are the engine choices. Making its debut is the 3.0-liter Power Stroke® Turbo Diesel that generates a best-in-class 250 horsepower at 3,250 RPM and 440 lb.-ft. of torque at 1,750 RPM. You also get an EPA-estimated 30 MPG on the highway. Towing capacity maxes out at 11,000 lbs. with the 156.8-inch wheelbase on the 4x4. This powerplant is optional for the LARIAT, King Ranch®, and Platinum trims, replacing a previous 3.5-liter choice is the new 3.3-liter V6.
Its Twin-independent Variable Cam Timing (Ti-VCT) optimizes power by opening and closing the valves for precise periods to meet different operating conditions. It also includes the manufacturer's first Port Fuel and Direct-Injection System (PFDI), which consists of two injectors for each cylinder with one mounted outside the cylinder and another positioned in the air intake port. To define your drive, you can choose from three modes: Normal, Sport, and Tow-Haul. This motor offers the highest towing capacity at 13,200 lbs. for the 4x2 and the 156.8-inch wheelbase. The 2.7L EcoBoost® V6 has been revised with PFDI to deliver up to 325 horsepower at 5,000 RPM and 400 lb.-ft. of torque at 2,750 RPM. The 5.0-liter naturally aspirated 5.0-liter Ti-VCT V8 gets similar revisions to generate up to 395 horsepower at 5,750 RPM and 400 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,500 RPM. This engine has a CNG/Propane Gaseous Engine Prep Package so you can fuel up on Compressed Natural Gas or Propane Autogas.
Upping the safety is the optional Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go. When engaged, this technology maintains a safe distance from the vehicle in front while slowing down, stopping, and speeding up the truck to compensate for different traffic speeds. The Pre-Collision Assist System can monitor for pedestrians and warn you audibly and with a signal on the windshield that you are about to hit them. Brakes precharge for maximum response and can engage automatically if you do not respond quickly enough. When you need to hook up to the internet, the available 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, powered by AT&T, can handle up to 10 devices at the same time from up to 50 feet outside the truck. You can use the FordPass™ app to track how much data you're using. Enhancing your musical enjoyment is the premium Bang & Olufsen PLAY system that comes with AM/FM stereo, a single CD/MP3 player, and ten speakers. On the outside, the new grille now has two bars as inspired by the Super Duty line. Although the headlights look similar, they now feature LED accent lines that separately outline the high- and low-beams with turn signals separating the two. In the rear, tail lamps use separate upper and lower LED outlines instead of just one. All-wheel designs have been revised to range from 17 to 22 inches with six different designs. Changes are accented by a new "F-150" graphic stamped onto the metal of the tailgate.
