Introduction

Alan Stuart
Professional Consigner

With its claimed ~220BHP 2.5L V8 engine, it's easy to see where the Urraco, meaning “little bull”, gets its name from.

In the early '70s, the late Ferruccio Lamborghini had decided it was time to add a smaller model to the line-up that until then, only consisted of V12 engine cars. It was this decision that lead to a V8 powered model being produced that was able to compete on the same level as the Ferrari Dino 246 or the Porsche 911, so, preliminary work began on a model that would become the Urraco.

At the November 1970 Turin Auto Show, the first pre-production Urraco crafted by Marcello Gandini, designer of the Lamborghini Countach, went on display, showing off its handsome looks, angular frontage with pop-up headlights and large, wide opening doors. All in all a well-balanced car that, once you got to know it, was acknowledged as a true 'Raging Bull'.

1972 saw the improved two-door coupe, Urraco S introduced, utilising a full leather upholstery, powered windows that were now also tinted and an optional metallic paint coat available. The engine also received an update, and was fitted with new Weber 40 DCNF carburettors, capable of synchronous opening and high rates of flow making them ideal for highly tuned engines.

During its current ownership, the Lamborghini has had new springs and dampers fitted all the way around the car, the calipers have been rebuilt and new tyres added in 2022. A great benefit with this Urraco is that the car has been resprayed and was finished in March 2021 where the new paint works cost ~£11,500. With low mileage and having only had three previous owners, this is a seriously rare car that is still capable of delivering impressive performance, coupled with a comfortable ride.

This listing was written from information supplied by Alan after meeting Richard the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

There's nothing quite like that Lamborghini magic; beautiful styling, stunning design work and Italian charm.

Richard has been a fan of Italian cars for many years, so when the opportunity came up to purchase the Urraco, well it was an offer he couldn't refuse. Richard told us, "I just love the style of this car, it's '70s styling wrapped up in Lamborghini design, what more could a car fanatic ask for".

Having been kept by Richard for over ~22 years now, its not a car he wants to give up lightly, Richard went on to say, "The P250 S is everything I want it to be, its such a work of art and when you sit inside, its a really beautiful machine to look at".

However, with new purchases on the horizon, the time has come for Richard to help the next keeper take ownership of the Urraco. Richard said, "I've loved every minute of caring for this car, but with the future in mind, I feel its time to let someone else cherish it".

Exterior

This '70s pin-up with its era-defining wedge design is a truly rare and unique car, designed with touring and style in mind, and now ready for its next adventure.

Wheels and Tyres

The Lamborghini is equipped with a superb set of original Campagnolo alloy 14" wheels, with excellent looking centre badges.

We noted very few issues with the wheels when taking a look over the car, where all 5 (4 plus the spare) having been restored in July 2022 at a cost of over ~£700. Being picky, the only note to make was some signs of pitting on the nearside rear rim.

Complete with a new set of Imperial Ecodriver 5 tyres, running 205/70 to the front and rear, these are date coded from 2022. The tread shows well, and the condition of tyres looks good too with no obvious cracking or major wear that we could see.

There is a spare wheel included with the Urraco located in the front trunk section complete with a matching 14" alloy and Imperial Ecodriver 5 tyre. Please take a look at the photos and videos for a detailed view of the exterior of the Lamborghini and a closer look at the wheels and tyres.

Bodywork

Looking across the car, the bodywork looks very good with shut lines looking good too - both doors and bonnet and split section boot open and close well.

We noted very few issues with the bodywork when looking both at the exterior and underside, which we feature in our mechanical review video.

It's clear to see that this is a car that has benefitted from a great deal of care and admiration over its life having had plenty of restorative work carried out. In December 2020, a repair was completed on the drivers side door as part of the bodywork and paint restoration project.

Please take the time to look through all the media files for a detailed view at what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the bodywork for yourselves.

Paint

Finished in a stunning coat of 'Oro Metallizzato' (gold metallic - paint code 2463239), the exterior of the car is so eye catching and really encapsulates that '70s look and feel - the exterior is a real head turner.

The metallic finish was an optional extra colour from factory.

The P250 S has been fully resprayed in stages and completed in March 2021 with the same factory paint code colour, totalling ~£11,500 for these works. Looking over the panelling, we didn't note any areas of concern with the paintwork.

Again, we have taken high resolution images and videos of the car for you to assess the condition of the bodywork for yourselves. The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these high resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

Windscreen section, side windows and mirrors all appear in great condition and we could see no sign of scratching or chips on the glass. A great little design note is the shapely wing mirrors which compliment the exterior of the P250 S nicely.

Chrome work including the Bertone and Lamborghini badges, chrome door handles and window surrounds are all showing in a good condition. The trim around the windscreen is showing with a little note of wear, but not a real area of concern in our opinion.

Interior

A typical '70s super car interior - prepared to be transported back in time when taking the wheel of this little bull.

Seats and Carpets

Superbly comfortable seating finished in a lovely senape / tan leather show exceptionally well. The inset padded sections of the seats give a great level of support for driver and passenger alike. We noted no issues with the seats either on the bolster sections, nor on the rear portion of the seat. Overall a very impressive cabin area which is almost like a time capsule in both its look and feel.

The Urraco has been kitted out with a complete set of new carpets that look great. We noted no issues either in the floor well sections, or in the boot sections. Again, complimenting the overall finish of the interior, a great place to sit as a driver or passenger and truly admire the space.

The roof lining also looks in good condition too.

Dashboard

The driver's view is beautifully set up; original senape / tan finished dash appears in good condition with no cracks or marks to report.

As expected, the edges of the finish are starting to show a few signs of wear, but is a known aspect of older Alcantara, which can show a little leathery over time. Given this Urraco has been in use for almost ~50 years, this was not a major area of concern and just adds to the heritage of the car.

Mileage counter showed with ~35,278 miles at the time of our visit. The display area of the dials and gauges show well and without concern with a working clock as part of the driver's view section.

Our interior gallery section takes you over some closer images of the Lamborghini's dashboard; head over and see the car's interior in finer detail.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The steering is direct and when out in the car, we observed no issues with how the car handled in the hands of Richard, the current owner. Having no power assistance, the steering setup is a great drivers' car and a real purists dream with its original spec.

The three-spoke steering wheel shows a little wear but nothing to much of a concern. The golden Lamborghini bull set into the centre cap of the steering wheel, was a real highlight in the cabin area.

The 5 speed gearstick showed nicely with its wood finish cap complimenting the rest of the Urraco's interior.

Mechanics

Designed with comfort and performance in mind, the P250 S produced ~220BHP from its V8 - all whilst keeping the driver calmly focused on the road with its handling ability.

Engine and Gearbox

The naturally aspirated, mid-mounted, 2.5L V8 engine is a really beautiful sounding engine capable of delivering some impressive performance, even with nearly ~50 years on the road.

The engine did need a little bit of coaxing to get started, as noted on our mechanical review video, where Richard pumped the accelerator several times to get the engine to start up. As can often be the case with carburettor fuelled cars, the engine did take a little while to warm up nicely, but once running, the Urraco sounded great and ran very well as you can see in the On the Road video.

With its 5 speed dogleg gearbox, the P250 S worked its way through the gears without strain or concern and were functioning nicely. Richard told us that the change can be a little slow on 2nd and 3rd gear shifts when the car is cold - but fine when nicely up to temperature. It is worth noting there is no synchromesh on the first or reverse gears which is not unusual in a car from this era. The cooling system has been rebuilt and remodelled with the drainage section now at the base of the engine, as opposed to its factory setup where the engine previously had to be dismantled to action this.

Take a look at the car and engine section which we've highlighted in the cold start section of the mechanical review video. We take the car on a short drive and go into further detail about the Lamborghini, taking it out on some local roads to get a better sense of what this car is all about.

Suspension and Brakes

During its current ownership, the Lamborghini has had new springs and dampers fitted all the way around the car. On the drive out Richard took us around some local roads, the brakes felt to have no pull or vibrations that stood out to us when on the journey.

We heard no knocks, bangs or squeaks from the suspension and overall the car performed as to be expected with no observed issues. We cover off the underside of the Urraco's exterior in greater detail as Richard has a servicing ramp in his garage which allowed us to see directly underneath the car - head over to the Mechanical gallery section to take a look up close.

The Drive

With its beautifully engineered ride, the Lamborghini glides along the road so well with a cushioned and luxurious feel about its performance. It's the kind of car that has great road manners and really makes you feel you would want to experience, and enjoy long journeys out in, to get the most from the Urraco.

Electrics and Other

Being a '70s car, the P250 S is setup with a relatively simple level of electronics but does include some excellent driver additions such as electric front windows, Sharp stereo radio and Pioneer amp, pop up headlights and air conditioning; although please note that the air-con hasn't been re-gassed.

Pertronix electronic ignition was added in 2013.

As noted in the mechanical review video, Richard said that sometimes the petrol gauge sticks in position before the dial moves for the fuel levels to read, also the indicator switch sometimes doesn’t self-cancel when turning.

The air-con hasn’t been re-gassed, has not been recently tested, and is currently disconnected.

Richard also said that he has had very few issues with the electrical elements on the car, and to the best of his knowledge, all the rest of the components were working as to be expected.

History and Paperwork

With under ~800 of these cars ever being produced, it's safe to say the Urraco is a particularly rare model - with low mileage and 3 previous owners, this is a car that seriously stands out.

It's clear to see that this Lamborghini is a car that has really been cared for and admired over its years. It's rare to find a car of this heritage with this low miles and ownership, especially considering how few of these Urraco's were ever actually produced. Complete with two sets of keys and a whole host of paperwork, we cover some of the mechanical overview of its history in the sections below.

New air filters were fitted in July 2021, a new brake calliper piston was replaced in April 2021, new timing belts were installed in November 2018, a new alternator was fitted in April 2011, new air filters in September 2010, new timing belts were installed in June 2010 and an upgraded cam belt, new spark plugs and a strip and rebuild of the front brakes was actioned in December 2005.

New carburettor kit, spark plugs, new ignition keys, electrical indicators, hazard lights and paintwork plus other works were completed in January 2000 costing over ~£3,000, A new fuel system and work to the ignition system was completed in February 2000 where the engine was stripped, removed and inspected then rebuilt with serviceable parts. During this time the braking system was checked, hand brake cables replaced, welding applied to the floor and air intake box repaired costing over ~£3,000 in June 1995. The valve and gasket set along with the timing belt and ignition lead set was replaced in August 1994.

Despite its historic vehicle status and therefore not requiring an up to date MOT, Richard has just had a fresh MOT actioned for peace of mind, and it passed with no advisories.

Purely speculative at this stage, but as per the email exchange in the history file, the car may have been at the 1973 Earls Court Motor show - you can see a gold Urraco in the background at 1min 57sec into the video via this link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8BFrE4GiSZU

We HPi check every car with Cap HPi, the UK's leading and most trusted car checking service. Please see the report that came back saying the car was subject to outstanding finance. This has been confirmed as to not be the case - we see this issue regularly with older cars that have very short VIN numbers that are also connected to other vehicles or even equipment, as in this case. You can see this is not an issue for yourself in the paperwork section, as part of the check says it is linked to an industrial machine that was subject to finance. Cap HPi also have the year of registration as 1950 - this is incorrect due to the same data issue and you can see the correct DVLA record that is held against the car in the paperwork, or by checking the CIW 2069 registration for yourself on DVLA.

Should there be any questions required, Richard would be happy to answer these in the section below.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a HPi check on the vehicle.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house. Please note, the car may be in daily use, so the mileage may increase from that shown here - you can request an update check with us after you register your interest.

Hi I noticed it says 1950 for 1st registration and 2000 the last change of owner in one of the last documents!

I don’t believe any history of owners 1973 to 1980 is that correct?

Thank you.

Dave
