Neat 770 Regal makes a great cruiser: reconditioned engine & trans, new paint, good condition

The VG Valiant of 1969 was seen as an incremental (to say the least) facelift with only minor cosmetic changes that were hard to spot for many.

Rectangular head lamps and restyled tail lights along with a slightly redesigned grille were the crux of the new look Valiant; but the big news came under the bonnet.

"After five years development… Chrysler Australia has introduced a completely new six-cylinder engine to give its 1970 Valiant range a power and fuel economy advantage over all other six xylinder engine cars produced in Australia" said Chrysler at the time.

"Chrysler believes the new engine, named the Hemi 245, to be the most advanced six-cylinder power plant made anywhere in the world".

The Australian Chrysler ‘big-six’ would become a fan favourite, with three variations of the "Hemi" 245 offered across the VG range, backed up by the 318 V8 and the old 225 slant-six.

The VG Valiant on sale here comes in Regal 770 specification which gained the automatic gearbox as standard, along with new wheel arch mouldings, emblems and a woodgrain (look) dash and tachometer.

It looks like a great affordable cruiser, fitted with the 225 slant-six – reconditioned along with the transmission back in 2018.

Overall, it looks to be in fair condition with new paint and comes with some comforts such as air conditioning, power steering, and is said to be in good condition throughout.

There are only exterior photos in the listing (also, disregard the Pacer label; this is a VG Valiant Regal 770), but it may be worth investigating for anyone after a neat no-fuss cruiser.

The VG Val’ is based in Queensland and is listed for $17,000.
