Just joined today and picked up a 2006 SR5 with 158k on it. First tundra and love it so far so solid and rides like a Cadillac. Paint is rough but everything else is good. Planning on doing timing belt next week and then some wheels and tires. Best part tho, no rust!

That's such a good color, but how is the paint "rough"? Is it doing the typical metallic clearcoat-fail on the horizontal panels?

You know about timing belt and rust, so I assume you've seen this thread? :D

Welcome to the forum, and congrats on your new 1st gen.

Thanks yea I have seen that one. I found every service record it’s had since day one in the glovebox. They did a trans service at 60k but I didn’t see the timing belt. I may check it through the inspection cover truck but it’s most likely overdue.

the paint is bad on the fenders right where the hood seam is it’s almost like it’s been melted off, very rough I may get the whole truck sprayed at some point. It’s got bad sun damage but mechanically it feels great.

I suspect that's not the original paint. Looking at the hood itself, that's a lot of orange peel texture for OEM paint. OEM paint does have a little texture to it, but is typically smoother than that. Hood almost definitely a repaint, which serves to logic the front quarter/fender would've been also.

I would tend to agree but I crawled all over that thing, checked fasteners for the brackets to the fenders and radiator supports etc everything is straight and never touched to my eyes so I don’t think it’s been in an accident or anything. Also the carfax is clean, I usually take those with a grain of salt.

I think I’ll see what a cheap re spray costs or just leave it as patina and buy some nice wheels and tires lol I’m originally from Massachusetts so I was thrilled when I saw that frame there isn’t a mark on it it’s incredible to me.

My roof and hood were resprayed; I have a truck that sat in the sun for years and years, you’d recognize my paint immediately.

Gave her a quick wash today. I’m liking this truck more every day. Looking at wheels and tires next

That's one of the rarest colors and one of my favorites. They only offered that color in 2005-2006 and didn't seem to make a lot of them. You're only the 2nd or 3rd member to join here with that color. You and @tacoguybill.

I think it would be worth having it repainted eventually. Nice find!

    Edited- offered in 05 also.

Huh? The truck in this thread is timberland mica green. And I was wrong, they offered it in 2005 also.

This is what it looks like in the sun.

Congrats, and sweet color, regardless of the condition. I like that better than my Jade Mica. Both are a good looking color, super nice rig!

Thanks guys! I had no idea about the color being rare I really like it. I actually ended up trading my wife’s old rav4 for it because the guy needed something that got better mileage. I’m going to use this to haul my dirtbike and go to work which is only about 10 miles a day.

2006 is a terrific year! I bought an SR5 AC, 2wd new in August of 2006. Owned it for 12 trouble-free years and 225,000 miles and my daughter has it now. Mine was Salsa Red Pearl.

My daughter driving it away right after she bought it.

Thanks man! I really want to restore this thing I don’t see a difference between this and a Chevrolet nova from back in the day. Let’s bring back restoring newer/older Toyota trucks

the frame is really incredible, never been replaced just a good southern truck. Being from Massachusetts this thing is a unicorn to me

Yea I hear you! Same here , gonna get the timing belt done soon, and LBJ. I feel like with good regular maintenance it can definitely last. thats amazing for the frame! Mine actually has a rusted out hole but im getting it repaired for 500$ from a local welder so thats awesome.

I’m getting the timing belt and plugs done in two weeks when I get back from a work trip. I do feel like the trans has a hard shift into 4th.

someone on her said the trans can be rebuilt better than new but idk where I’d go for that. A regular trans shop can do that?

It's not a 4l60e, not aware of any inherent flaws in it. But ... who knows, maybe? Everything I've seen quoted on here for a rebuild is $1,700+, you're better off sourcing a used trans IMHO.

It’s probably fine I guess it just has a hard shift in 4th but it doesn’t seem to slip or anything. Maintenance records show that it was serviced at 60k so it should be good

You could always drain and fill, my service records indicated drain and fill for the transmission at 60k and I did it again at like 130 or something, welcome fellow green DC guy the paint on my hood was toast so I stripped it down and had a guy at work spray it down…doesn’t quite match (probably never will with 18 years worth of sun cooking the rest). I would advise to check the roof too, I just found a spot burning through the clear coat there the other day.

Yea mines not that bad on the roof at least. I have seen another post where the green trucks for whatever reason may have had subpar paint jobs
