While there are a surplus of online auctions and resale sites, nothing beats the feel of searching a brick-and-mortar shop, so pack your weekender and enjoy a favorite summertime activity. For those without a car, don’t fret, as many gems are located just a short walk away from the Beacon and Hudson Amtrak rail stations.
Before setting out on your expedition, there are some tricks of the trade to keep in mind. As a rule of thumb, always bring cash, and don’t be afraid to negotiate (tip: group a few items together and offer a price for them all—dealers like to move product). Always go with an idea of what you’d like to find, and specific measurements if necessary. Test out each item before you buy it. Are the sofa legs sturdy? Does the lamp work?
