An 18-year-old Lenox Township man is facing several charges after police say he broke into a New Haven home and stole several items early morning Sunday.

Shortly before 5 a.m. March 17, Macomb County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the Amherst Subdivision in New Haven for a report of an alleged breaking and entering. Officials said the caller reported hearing people talking and moving around in the basement, and saw two individuals with flashlights fleeing out of the basement access door.

Several items were noted as missing from the home.

A responding deputy observed a red GMC Acadia with two individuals inside lose control at the entrance of the subdivision at the intersection of Clark Street and Amherst Avenue. The vehicle ended up in the ditch.

The passenger, Victor Villegas, 18, of Lenox Township, exited the vehicle and was immediately taken into custody.

The driver fled on foot and has not yet been apprehended, the sheriff’s office said Tuesday.

The Acadia was traced to another homeowner in the Amherst Subdivision. The victim was alerted that the vehicle had been taken from his garage without his knowledge, and noticed other items missing from his home as well.

Many of the stolen items were recovered from inside the vehicle and in the suspect’s possession.

Villegas was arraigned in 42-2 District Court in New Baltimore on March 19 on the following charges:

• Two counts home invasion, first degree, a 20-year felony

• One count motor vehicle – unlawful driving away, a five-year felony

• One county home invasion, second, a 15-year felony

• Six counts breaking and entering to steal property less than $200, a 93-day misdemeanor

• One count breaking and entering to steal property $200-$1,000. a one-year misdemeanor

• One count larceny less than $200, a 93-day misdemeanor

Villegas was given a personal bond of $20,000 and must wear a GPS tether.
