Power bill spike: A woman said her power bill nearly tripled
A Georgia Power customer said she is outraged because she has watched her power bill go from $110 to $375 in just one month. Emily Vonck said she took precautions to avoid having a high bill.
“We turned the AC up to 76. We were doing laundry and cooking later in the evening. We closed all our blinds to keep the sun out. I feel that we were taking a lot of precautions, but they just weren’t helping. Our bill is still going up,” said Vonck.
Vonck said when she made a post on Facebook to see if other people were experiencing high bills, she received numerous responses from people claiming they are experiencing the same issue.
Georgia Power responded, "a bill tripling over one month is something we would want to look into and directly help this customer sort this out!"
Georgia Power also provides numerous resources, such as the project share program to help lower your electric bill.
Unplugging items from your outlets in your home and making sure AC vents aren't blocked is recommended by Georgia Power to lower the cost of your electric bill.
“Pay attention to your air ducts. Is there furniture blocking where the AC is coming out? Your systems are going to have to work harder if that’s happening,” said Georgia Power Region Communications Specialist Tess Newton.
