With its clever use of space, high roofline and 

multi-positional seats, the SEAT Altea was born 

ready. As the name suggests, the Altea XL is 

longer. And with its extra 123 litres of space the 

new Altea XL shares all of the Altea’s qualities, 

and then some. It’s a car that welcomes the 

family with open doors.

HEADLIGHTS THAT RUN IN THE FAMILY.

As with all SEAT headlights, you have the option 

to choose bi-xenon, which is brighter than 

conventional halogen light, and consequently 

less tiring for the driver’s eyes. Those headlights 

come with an Adaptive Front-lighting System 

(AFS) and Daytime Running Lights (DRL), whilst 

foglights include a Cornering Function (more 

about all those later). Heated side mirrors are 

electrically-adjustable, folding* neatly into 

‘parking position’ (and out of harm’s way). The 

wipers are just as well-trained – when not in use 

they disappear discreetly into the front pillars.

PREPARE FOR A CHANGE IN 

CABIN PRESSURE.

Inside, things take on a rarified air. With its high 

roofline, the new Altea XL offers more front 

headroom than any medium sized estate car. 

For legroom in the back, again, this five-seater 

is out in front and the rear seats can be slid 

forwards by 160mm. Of course, where kids are 

concerned, there’s something even more 

important than knee room, and that’s elbow 

room. Which is why the new Altea XL comes with 

SEAT’s very own ‘Anti-squabble Zone’ (put 

another way, that means an unrivalled amount 

of space between the rear passengers). 

If battle-lines need to be drawn, it’s a relief to 

know that they can fold down the armrest/table, 

complete with cup-holders. Front seats are fitted 

with fold-down ‘airplane-style’ seat-back tables. 

Rear backrests are adjustable, allowing the kids 

to kick back after a hard day’s play – the perfect 

excuse, we thought, for ‘one touch’ electric 

windows all around (with all this talk about 

generous amounts of space, it’s only fitting that 

their design is known as anti-squeeze).

Three-way, split-folding seats. 

The new Altea XL’s additional 18.7cm equals 

an extra 123 litres of space, giving it a 532 

litre boot capacity in total (one of the largest in 

its class). But here’s where the XL excels. 

The rear seats can be positioned in a variety of 

ways to suit both kids and cargo. Need that extra 

bit of room in the boot? Shift one, two or all three 

of the seats forward by up to 160mm. 

Whichever way you slice it, the new Altea XL 

is fully flexible.

piece of engineering we call an ‘agile’ chassis. 

Highly rigid and finely tuned, it turns the 

steering, brakes, transmission and body into a 

single, responsive unit that instantly transforms 

your every intention into a precise manoeuvre. 

Much wiser to talk instead about anti-lock 

brakes. And electro-mechanical power steering, 

which ensures that steering is light at low 

speeds and stiffened at higher speeds, giving a 

more precise, sporty feel that connects driver 

and road. Safer to mention Electronic Stability 

Programme (ESP) – monitoring data from the 

onboard sensors, ESP uses this to make precise 

adjustments to ensure the XL maintains the 

perfect line. The result is greater agility, safety 

and comfort, particularly whilst cornering.

The new Altea XL may be longer at the back, 

but we’ve also ensured that it doesn’t fall short 

up front. Extra kick is provided by 

turbocharged direct injection technology, found 

in the six-speed 1.4 TSI 125PS model. 

The 1.9 TDI 105PS engine is available with a 

6-speed Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) which can 

change gear in a fraction of a second. 

DSG-auto transmission is also available with 

the 2.0 TDI 140PS engine but gains steering 

wheel mounted shift paddles for fingertip 

control. Then there’s the 2.0 TDI CR 170PS 

engine. Featuring a Diesel Particulate Filter 

(DPF) as standard, it benefits from Common 

Rail engineering, which makes things quieter, 

smoother and more efficient.

Hill Hold Control prevents you from rolling downhill 

before the clutch is engaged. 

Until that magical day comes we can promise 

something else designed to prevent things from 

becoming over-heated – dual zone climate 

control, standard in SE and Sport models, which 

allows you and your passenger to select your own 

perfect temperature. We can also promise 

optional Hill Hold Control, which stops you 

from rolling down a slope the moment before 

the clutch is engaged. And cruise control, 

which comes as standard in the SE and Sport 

models. A gearshift indicator*, depending on 

what mode (and mood) you are in, ensures 

either a more sporty drive or maximum 

efficiency. There are light sensors, rain sensors 

and parking sensors. Headlights that can see 

around bends, and foglights that can see around 

corners. Give us some more time on the antitantrum 

device.

In designing the new Altea XL range we’ve made 

every effort to anticipate your needs. So when 

dusk starts to fall, you won’t have to turn on 

the headlights – they’ll come on 

automatically*. When the first drops of rain hit 

the windscreen, the wipers know it’s time to go 

to work. When parking, you’ll have the option of

iPod ® **, MP3 and USB-friendly.

compensates, significantly improving grip.

reference on the SEAT Media system display. 

The new, multi-function steering wheel includes 

controls for the integrated (and upgraded) 

Bluetooth*, which incorporates a handy 

phonebook function. The instrument cluster 

(with fancy new white graphics) is also new. As is 

the navigation system, complete with SD card slot 

and 5" touch sensitive colour screen. Those in the 

back can be treated to an optional fold-down 7" 

screen that can be connected to a games console 

or even a video iPod ® . Music-wise too, things 

are MP3 friendly, and thanks to SEAT’s 

Combined USB/AUX-in Port (CUP), your 

favourite tunes can be played from your 

iPod ® ** or a memory stick. After all, even a car 

as clever as this one can’t anticipate how you 

like your music.

Rear storage spaces include seat-back pouches and folding tables. 

Yeah, things can get messy from time to time, 

but we’ve tried to give you a fighting chance 

against outright chaos breaking out. In addition 

to the storage areas in the front and rear centre 

consoles there are storage compartments under 

the front seats. And pouches on the driver and 

passenger backrests. In the boot, we thought 

adjustable webbing, fixing hooks and a two-tier 

floor might help too.

IT’S READY FOR WHATEVER 

THE CONDITIONS THROW AT YOU. 

So we’ve established that the new Altea XL can 

cope with whatever life throws at it. How does it 

cope with whatever the road throws at it? Again, 

anticipation is at the heart of our philosophy. 

Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS)* 

headlights follow the movements of the 

steering wheel, providing illumination where 

you need it most. Cornering front foglights serve 

a similar purpose – activated by the indicator 

signal, they illuminate the area in the direction 

you intend to turn. For extra peace of mind, 

optional Daytime Running Lights (DRL)* activate 

automatically, helping to make you more visible 

to other drivers. So what else keeps trouble at bay?

An ever more sophisticated ESP system works in 

tandem with an ever more sophisticated 

Traction Control System (TCS) – the newest 

version of which uses sensors in the Anti-lock 

Braking System (ABS) to prevent wheelspin at 

lower speeds as well as higher ones. That’s 

enough three-letter acronyms for one page. 

Well, just one more. EBA stands for Emergency 

Brake Assist, and its trick is to provide 

maximum braking power from the shortest 

pedal movement. Just as cleverly, an autodimming 

rear-view mirror prevents headlight 

glare from the car behind. The XL of course, is 

part of the Altea family – which won four Euro 

NCAP stars for ‘Child Occupant Protection’ and 

five for ‘Adult Occupant Protection’ (the highest 

evaluation there is). ISOFIX – which enables two 

child seats to be anchored directly to the 

chassis – is standard. So are six airbags – two 

front, two side, two curtain (two optional rear 

side airbags protect passengers on the outer 

seats). The front passenger airbag can be 

deactivated to prevent injury to an infant. And 

to prevent injury to all five passengers, the 

three-point seatbelts are pre-tensioned – if 

braking is forceful, a limiter eases the belt’s 

tension.

The SEAT Warranty 

Three-year Warranty. All new SEATs registered 

in the UK come with a three year/60,000 miles 

warranty, which protects your car against 

the failure of most mechanical and electrical 

components due to manufacturing defects. This 

comprises a two-year manufacturer’s warranty 

with unlimited mileage plus a further oneyear/60,000 

(whichever is soonest) Dealer 

Warranty. Should the mileage exceed 60,000 miles 

within the first two years, the manufacturer’s twoyear 

warranty will still be valid. If an additional 

warranty for subsequent years or higher mileage is 

desired, it may be purchased from an authorised 

SEAT dealer or repairer, however, this additional 

warranty must be purchased before the mileage 

reaches 60,000. Cover is subject to the car 

being serviced and maintained according to the 

manufacturer’s technical guidelines. Full details 

of the three-year warranty are available from your 

SEAT dealer or repairer. 

Three-year Paint Warranty. The paintwork of the 

new Altea XL is covered against manufacturing 

defects for a period of three years. Naturally, the 

new Altea XL must be cared for in compliance 

with the operating instructions which will be 

found in your vehicle handbook. Please consult 

your authorised SEAT dealer or repairer for full 

warranty details. 

Twelve-year Body Protection Warranty. The 

internal body sections and panels of the new 

Altea XL are covered against rusting through from 

the inside for a period of twelve years. Naturally, 

the new Altea XL must be cared for in compliance 

with the operating instructions which will be 

found in your vehicle handbook. Please consult 

your authorised SEAT dealer or repairer for full 

warranty details. 

SEAT Parts Warranty. SEAT parts and accessories 

supplied after new vehicle delivery are covered by 

our 24 months parts warranty. 

SEAT Accessories. SEAT accessories and styling 

options are designed to add an extra touch of 

individuality. Please note that SEAT Original and 

SEAT UK purchased accessories carry a two year 

warranty from the point of purchase. This warranty 

is extended to three years when purchased and 

fitted prior to delivery with a new vehicle. This 

excludes Road Angel products. 

Specifications. Specifications for the new Altea 

XL refer to Model Year 2010. While SEAT makes 

every effort to make sure that specifications are 

accurate at time of going to press (09/09), you 

should always check details with your SEAT dealer 

as there may have been changes in view of SEAT’s 

policy of continuous product improvement. The 

right is reserved to change specification and 

colour at any time. The information in this brochure 

can therefore be given as guidance only. 

SEAT Assistance (including European cover). Any 

new SEAT purchased and registered in the UK 

from an authorised SEAT dealer, is covered free 

by SEAT Assistance (including European cover) 

for roadside repairs or recovery to an authorised 

repairer for a term of two years. Your member of 

the SEAT authorised network will ensure that all 

servicing and repairs are carried out in accordance 

with the manufacturer’s instructions. Terms and 

conditions apply.

Fuel Consumption Information. The Government 

fuel figures do not express or imply any guarantee

modifications. Furthermore, the driving style

Vehicle Excise Duty and CO 2 Emissions. All 

vehicles first registered on or after 1st March 

2001 are subject to a form of Vehicle Excise 

Duty (Road Fund Licence) based on the type 

of fuel the vehicle uses and its carbon dioxide 

(CO 2 ) emission level, measured in grammes per 

kilometre (g/km). 

Optional Equipment 

Throughout this publication, wherever a feature 

is described as being an ‘Option’ or ‘Optional 

Fitment/Pack’ etc, you should assume that it 

will be at extra cost to the base vehicle, unless 

specifically stated to the contrary. Any vehicle 

ordered with optional equipment (other than 

metallic paint) will be subject to a 12 week
