Editor’s LetterDear Readers,The year 2013, in all probability, will be about utility vehicles, especially the sports utilityvehicle. We expect that the much awaited Ford EcoSport will be launched in the first halfof the calendar year, followed by Maruti XA Alpha. The iconic Jeep from the Chryslerstable will be launched at end of the 2013. Jeep is a name that is synonymous withoff-road vehicles and is quite popular in India. Mahindra & Mahindra which was set upas a steel trading company in 1955 incidentally expanded into manufacturing general-purposeutility vehicles, starting with assembly under licence of the iconic Willys Jeep in India. Jeep is not anunfamiliar word in India.Fiat S.p.A, which has a major shareholding in Chrysler, will be importing the Grand Cherokeeand the Wrangler into India. These vehicles may not come in cheap as they would be brought intoIndia through the CBU route. The cover report is on Chrysler’s plans to enter India with the Jeepbrand. While Jeep has made known its intention to launch its products, a Chinese company GreatWall Motor Company Limited (GWM) is exploring the Indian market. GWM is China’s leading SUVand pickup manufacturer and a privately owned enterprise. A team from GWM was in New Delhiin the month of December 2012 exploring avenues to enter the Indian market. The company’sproducts range includes SUVs, passenger cars and pick-ups. motor sportVikrampati SinghaniaDeputy Managing Director, JK Tyre and IndustriesObjective: It’s a combination of a lot ofthings. It’s a great test track for all the tyresthat we produce. The tyres tested hereultimately are meant for vehicle owners. We also intend to promote motorsportstalent in India. It also adds to the brandvalue.Any tone down of Motorsports activitiesbecause of recession? Not Really.Motorsports activities are part of life.Businesses go up and down in every cycle. This is a long term-commitment towardspromoting motorsports. Infact, we wouldlike to take it on a global scale. On Indian driver winning an F1GP: Anysports require someone to start at a youngage. In other countries, it happens so. AnF1 driver from Brazil or Europe has beenpracticising for years now. It’s just theinfrastructure that helps breed talent inthat country. We have started producingdrivers through karting. So there are driverswho are graduating to global arenas. It’sabout the number of people in any sportsand backing them up with sponsorshipsand other financial commitments. Indiandrivers are now performing well. They arecompeting at the F3 and F2 level. It’s amatter of one or two steps to attain thestature of a world-class driver by an Indian. On the infrastructural bottlenecks inIndia: At the end of the day, it’s about theavailability of land. We can only talk to theconcerned parties and encourage them tobuild many more circuits. We intend tohold more races to enhance the talent inthis country. On its future course of action: Weare looking at a different kind of sportin addition to the ones we are alreadysponsoring.Vision for the company: To take Indiandrivers on the global motorsports map.We would also like to have them figuredin different categories of motorsports. Wewant to sharpen the focus and enhance theskills of the Indian drivers and take them tothe next level.Arun MammenManaging Director, MRFObjective: Since we are in the tyrebusiness, we build hi-performance tyres. It showcases our tyre technology andcapabilities. That is the primary objective. In addition to that, such activities also helppromoting motorsports in the country. Asmotorsports in India is pretty young, a lotmore can be done to nurture the drivers. On the probability of churning out anF1 champion in India: Such a possibilitycannot be ruled out in the long term.Provided he has the access to world-classcars which we are trying to bring into thecountry. It’s also important to give theright equipment (next-gen cars) to Indiandrivers so that they can deliver. But in theshort term, I don’t see that happening. Acar like Formula 2000 is an F3 car and givesyou the state-of-the art technology insingle-seater racing. And this is also greattool for young Indian drivers. On challenges and hurdles: Motorsportsis not comparable to any other sportslike cricket. It’s an expensive sport. Anaspirant need to get support from variousautomobile companies to get into suchactivities. That will ultimately help inspreading the racing fraternity in thiscountry. On taking company-sponsored rallieson a global scale: In the next year, weshould be organising such rallies in othercountries. We are already in talks with manytrack centres which are located overseas.Vision for MRF: As we are the pioneersin motorsports, we have a long way to go.Being in this space for more than 25 years,we intend to be the best in what we aredoing.12 / Car N Style / January 2013 www.carnstyle.com

Motor sportJohn ChackoMD and President, VW Group IndiaObjective: Our intention is to promote themotorsport talent in this country and alsoemotionalise our brand name. Motorsportis classically one of the ways to do it.On replicating the global success of PoloCup in India: VW Polo Cup has been a bigsuccess in India. We have been working atit for three years. From time to time, we gotbetter. We are also getting much closer towhat we are showing to the public on theroad so that we have a very good synergyeffect between motorsports in India andthe series of production in this country. On balancing emission and power inrace cars: If you look at the Polo carsthat we are running at our races, they arevery hi-tech. The TSI technology that isemployed in the engines is one of themost environment-friendly ones in theworld. We are also emotionalising the factthat we have the most efficient engines. Idon’t think we are contradicting anything.Yes, the cars are faster but not very highpolluting. With the gearbox that is fittedon the Polos, I think it’s a perfect way toget into high-tech solutions on to the road.Current Challenges: Getting morespectators for this sport. On promoting Ducati for bikechampionships in India: That is very muchon the horizonVision: We will be carrying on with ourmotorsports activities in India. This isbecause we still think that as far as theemotions are concerned, this is the place toactivate them.Mohan P.N.Chairman & Managing Director, Sidvin Core-Tech (I) Pvt. Ltd.Objective: Being in the motorsports for25 years, I am very passionate about it. Ihave been a co-driver for many years forbikes and cars. I have also been a part ofthis federation as a national safety officer.Motorsports has always been my passion. So as my company associates with theseactivities, we are promoting a lot of talentin this country. We got into this 5 yearsback and were the first team to takeIndian drivers to world rally championship.Thereafter, we brought in Sidvin Festivalof Speed in 2009. After a gap of 15 years,we brought in Asia Road Racing in India. We have also sponsored the NationalMotorcycle Racing Championship. We hadalso won the MRF Championship last year.On making this sport a wee bitaffordable: We are trying to createplatforms for different levels. So we arebringing the entry barriers much lower. We are offering affordable options foraspirants. On plugging the gaps: As manufactureslike VW are coming in, it’s a massive boostfor various motorsport drivers in thiscountry. We are also working on entrylevelPolo Cup.On giving chance to female drivers: Weare already having a handful of femaledrivers like Alice Powell. We do expectsome Indians catching up.On churning out an F1 champion: 5 yearsfrom now, it is possible to have alteastan Indian F1 driver figured in the top 10rankings. By that time, we will have morefaster car and a huge spectator turnout Iam sure there are a lot of young kids whoare quick and doing well in karting.Vision: Going forward, we are going tomake sure that the Festival of Speed isgoing to be very aspirational. We wouldlike to create a platform where peoplewould like to watch such events.www.carnstyle.comJanuary 2013 / Car N Style / 13

Snapshot ReviewSuzuki M800 IntruderWhen the world stops and stares at you…Report: P.Tharyan & Photography: Mohd. NasirThere are a few things that need to be notedbefore one climbs on to a superbike. One,you have to tell yourself that these bikesare heavy and need to be handled carefully. Two, you have got to shed any pretence, however remote, that you look like Shah RukhKhan. Rather, be yourself and ride the bikecarefully. The average roads in India are notsuited for superbikes, the way it is not suitedfor supercars. But a crumbling infrastructureshould not deprive you of your desire to ride abike that may be an M800 but looks and feelsalmost like its big bro the Intruder 1800. Thebike attracts a lot of attention on the roads, soplease do not ever get carried away thinkingthe world is staring at a John Abrahamspeeding by. They are merely admiring themotorcycle and there are a zillion reasons toadmire this bike. This bike was launched almosta year back, but some things beautiful need tobe reviewed very often so that they do not slipout of your memory.LOOKS & FEELOn the looks front, the Suzuki Intruder M800gets ten out of ten. It’s almost ditto lookinglike the 1800cc machine. It’s sporty to look atand it merely stands out with all the glitteringchrome all around it. On the right side, it getsaccentuated by the two massive exhausts thatlook imposing the moment it exits the powerfulV-twin 805cc engine. It’s low enough for anaverage height rider to feel comfortable evenwhen the bike is stationary. Short legs are nomajor impediment to this handsome lookingcruiser. The seats are broad and comfortableand equally fitting for a discerning pillion rider. With no grab handles for the pillion rider, this bike is meant for a pair in love…gay orotherwise! The moment you are seated on the bike, you get a heady feeling that it’s meant for you and you alone. It’s no ordinary 805ccmachine. It’s different than what you perceive….it is actually big in size. Bigger than what you would have imagined an 805cc machineshould be. It’s got a smart instrument cluster and LED taillights with handle bars that give the rider the perfect stance. On the looks andfeel front, the Intruder M800 is an outright winner.24 / Car N Style / January 2013 www.carnstyle.com

This bike is not meant forevery Tom, Dick and Harry. You have got to have muscles both on your legs and your hands to handle this gentle beast. For instance,if you have to push the stationary bike back while on it, your calf muscles need to be strong as steel. Similarly, when you have got toturn the bike at a slow speed, it requires lot of strength in your arms to do so. In short, you have got to be strong to ride this bike, besides having loads of money too to buy it. The M800 is powered by an 805cc, liquid-cooled, 45 degree V-twin engine that produces amaximum power of 52bhp at 6000rpm and a torque of 68.38Nm at 4000rpm. That may not sound very impressive but considering theweight of the bike, this power is more than adequate to propel the bike from a stationary point to the 100km per hour stage in just a fewseconds.Because of its mammoth size, the bike does have a large turning radius as compared to smaller bikes in the 200cc to 250cc category.Let’s not forget, this is a cruiser and it’s not meant to take you shopping to the local market. It is meant for the highway and long driveswith loads of adrenalin.26 / Car N Style / January 2013 www.carnstyle.com

Snapshot Review“That’s a Harley,” said someone on a bike, as we stopped at the traffic light. Is that a compliment? In a way, yes! In a country wherethere are only small bikes and the big bikes are ‘Harleys’, it’s a compliment to be branded as a Harley. But we were riding the SuzukiIntruder M800 that may look as smart as a Harley but sounded far from it. The sound from the engine is extremely tamed. But that doesnot mean it’s flat and boring. It’s simply not aggressive like a big bike should sound. The bike comes with a telescopic, coil spring, oil damped suspension in the front and a link type, coil spring, oil damped suspension atthe rear. It’s taut and takes the pot holes and rough roads with some ease. Continuous bad patches on the road can give you the aches atthe shoulder level. The riding position is comfortable with your feet slightly raised and stretched. This posture is comfortable during longdistance riding. While the front has disc brakes, the rear comes with drum brakes. The effectiveness of the disc brakes is clearly felt themoment you tug at the hand brake of the bike. It’s very clear that this motorcycle would appeal to a hard core biker, and that too, a wealthy one. For the 10 lakh odd it would cost onroad Delhi, the Suzuki Intruder M800 is a perfect buy. Especially when then the world stops and stares at you!www.carnstyle.comJanuary 2013 / Car N Style / 27

Snapshot ReviewNot everyone is qualified to ride an Enfield motorcycle. A few decades back, when boys were scurrying to buy motorcycles as light as abicycle, the Enfield company separated the men from the boys. (The company was then owned by Madras Motors until Eicher took overthe company in the 1990s.) The men went ahead and bought the Enfield Bullet motorcycles. The boys went ahead and continued sippingCampa Cola (Coke had been banned in India at that time). I am talking about the early 1980s. I was then in my second year of college. The present MD and CEO of Eicher (Royal Enfield is part of the Eicher group) Siddhartha Lal would then have been around 10 years old.The Bullet was then a mean machine.Everything about the bike was different. The gearshift lever and the kick lever were on the right. There was an additional tiny lever thatgot the gear into the neutral position the moment you tapped it with your foot. On the left side was the brake pedal. Those were the daysof the carburetor and fuel injection was an unheard of technology. There was no electric start too.The best part was the kick. It was a brute of a mechanism. It used to ‘kick’ you back! Yes, two out of five times when you attempted tokick start the Bullet motorcycle, it used to spring back, almost ripping your legs away. Those who survived the Enfield Bullet became realmen. The rest were cast away into a playschool with 100cc bikes and tamed scooters to ride.Today Royal Enfield bikes come in three categories: Thunderbird, Bullet and Classic. The Thunderbird comes in a 500cc and 350ccversions. The Thunderbird has been around for almost a decade now. It’s now that the technology in it has just got better.www.carnstyle.comJanuary 2013 / Car N Style / 29

Snapshot ReviewNOW COMES THE THUNDERBIRD 500Since the 1980s, men in India have graduated to big bikes fromthe stables of Harley, Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Ducati and others. The Enfield, however, continues to be the most affordable bikefor this lot. Where in the world can you get a cruiser for under2 lakh? Only in India! The Thunderbird 500 is a well tamedmachine. The technology that has gone into the Thunderbird500 is new, the ride comfort far better and the styling a notchsmarter. It’s definitely good to look at, easy to start with all itsin-built electronics, reasonably good power and torque andperhaps, the most affordable two-wheeler for all those who callthemselves ‘men’.When you see the Thunderbird coming towards you from a distance, it disappoints you. The tyres are too slim for a cruiser. With nameslike ‘Thunder’ and a 500cc engine you expect this two-wheeler to be a hunk of a machine. Yes it is solid looking, like an average Indianmales with huge torsos and thin legs. There is a very modest splattering of chrome on the bike, the rest being covered in swathes if black finish. The black colour, in reality, never runs out of vogue. Visible changes are plenty. The fuel tank is bigger and re-designed. The headlight comes with a new projectorassembly. There is an LCD tail lamp. The new blue backlit meters with a tacho as well as an LCD display are a rather good treat for therider. The exhaust pipe too has been redesigned while there is a new split seat and redesigned rubber-ised foot pegs, a new LED tail lamp30 / Car N Style / January 2013 www.carnstyle.com

Snapshot Reviewassembly, a completely redesigned exhaustpipe... the list is rather endless. With an electric start and a fuel ignitionmechanism, the bike does not have a lotof irritants that used to haunt it earlier. It starts easily and moves effortlessly tothe different gears. Cruising at speeds ofaround 80kmph comes easy for the bike. The moment you cross the 100kmph stage, the bike refuses to tire and continues itsjourney effortlessly. The few days I rode the bike, I kind ofbecame possessive of it. I didn’t wantanyone to steal my Thunder. It was as if abonding had evolved between me and thebike. Or was it simply bringing together thegood old years and memories, nostalgiaand the male pride all together on a singleplatform?www.carnstyle.comJanuary 2013 / Car N Style / 31

GM India people had gone around thecountry looking for a solid engine for their broad bodied Tavera. Finally they knocked on the doors of Hoshiarpur-based Sonalika groupwhich had the wherewithal and rights to make the Rover 2-litre diesel engine. The engine was already fitted into the Rhino variant andhad a tepid response from the Indian consumers. It was not a simple case of plucking an engine from a shop and planting it straight intothe Tavera. GM India engineers worked on it for several months, fine tuning every bit of its technological features and finally fitted it on tothe Tavera. The improvised engine design was given back to Sonalika so that the company could now start producing the new engine foritself as well as for GM India. For Sonalika, it was killing two birds with one stone. Since then both the companies have been doing brisksales of their respective products—the Extreme of ICML and the Chevrolet Tavera of GM India.32 / Car N Style / January 2013 www.carnstyle.com

Snapshot ReviewLOOKS & FEELNo matter how young a girl Bernie Ecclestone gets to escort, the fact is that he is old. The same goes for the Tavera. The looks are dated. Now if you think old is gold, then go ahead and buy the Tavera, because it comes with a new heart transplant and subtle changes within.Though the exterior changes are very minimal, the front headlamps, grille and bumper have been slightly modified. Honestly speaking, the facelift is very cosmetic. The Neo 3 chrome labels identify the Tavera as a new one. One cannot miss the new alloy wheels as well. The overall package is good. Since the Mahindra Xylo is a fresher looking vehicle, there’s demand for it. The Toyota Innova is trustedengineering, hence that too is much in demand. The Tavera with its boxy looks could well be appreciated by the cabbies. It is very unlikelythat you will find a daring man buying a Tavera for his family.www.carnstyle.comJanuary 2013 / Car N Style / 33

Snapshot ReviewPOWER & PERFORMANCELike I mentioned earlier, fitting the erstwhile Rhino engine intothe Tavera was no easy task. To cut short the boring technologyspiel, the fact is that the GM India engineers took quite a whileto adapt this engine to the Chevrolet Tavera. Because of achange in the placement and positioning of the engine, newengine mounts had to be designed. Air intake positioning toohad to be changed. In short, it was a mega engineering feat thatwent into this heart transplant. With around 107bhp of power and a torque well above the200Nm mark, the Tavera is now a powerful vehicle on therun. With a new 5-speed gear box, the vehicle speeds up tothe 100 kmph mark rather easily. Speeding beyond this mark, comes easily too. There is tremendous refinement in the newengine. The first and second gears are very peppy. The shadesof peppiness continue as one moves up to higher gears. Theengine too is much quieter than its predecessor. On an open ground I went full throttle cornering it at high speeds. Body role is very evident but not as bad as is expected from a boxlikecar like this. But remember this is a transport vehicle and should in no way pretend to be related to the Ferrari.34 / Car N Style / January 2013 www.carnstyle.com

Snapshot ReviewInteriors & Safety FeaturesThe interiors are not much to write home about. The top-end LT variant we drove has a two-tone grey and beige interior, an in-builtaudio system, power windows and leather seats. That does not make the vehicle plush by any standards. But it’s decent enough to becomplimented. The dashboard is new with a different instrument cluster and a smaller diameter steering wheel. The seats are comfortablefor long journeys. The three rows of seats can accommodate as many seven people with ease. With two separate seating arrangementsfor the middle row, a long ride in the Tavera could prove to be enjoyable.I found the floor mats in front of the second row of seats a tad out of size. So were so of the other mats. But the one thing that shallalways be appreciated about the Chevrolet Tavera is the roominess it offers. Now with the new BS IV engine, it’s got a new heart too. Sowhat if Bernie is old, he is still admired!www.carnstyle.comJanuary 2013 / Car N Style / 35

Travelwith a trout about six incheslong!Yes, this time our tripwas not to any far flungunexplored land but our ownneighborhood, Tirthan Valley inHimachal Pradesh, a weekendgetaway. I was looking for abreak from my daily routineand was in search of a weekenddestination that can be coveredin 2-3 days. While doing someresearch I came across a placecalled Gushani in Tirthanvalley. That’s when I decidedto go along with my friendsto this place. As Saturday wasa working day for one of myfriends, we started our journeyat night around 9.30pm. Nightdriving is always pleasant aslong as you don’t sleep whiledriving. This is mainly becausetraffic at night is bearable and itis easier to cruise your vehicle at a decentspeed without too much of braking. Nightdriving also helps in improving the fuelaverage of the vehicle. We were drivingmy friend’s XUV 500. We took the GT roadand travelled via Sonepat, Panipat, Karnal,Ambala, Chandighar, Bilaspur, Mandi andthen towards Kullu. But just before theKullu tunnel we took a right turn towardsBanjar which led us to Gushaini. Gushaini isa small village in Tirthan valley. It took us around 10 hours of drive fromDelhi to reach this scenic place, away fromthe maddening crowd, away from heat anddust of Delhi. Post monsoon, everythingthere looked awash in emerald glow! The shades of green were spectacular, surrounded by mountains, and thefreshness in the air was as pure as it couldbe! This place is the ideal destination forsomeone seeking solitude in the arms ofnature. No commercial humdrum, no noiseor air pollution, the villagers are kind andfriendly; asking about your family and you, even if they are meeting you for the firsttime! What a welcome deviation from ourbig city culture where no one has time forthe other person! There are several home stay optionsavailable but we decided for a place calledTrishla Home Stay, run by Gyan Singh. When we reached this scenic place, it wasalready 7.30 in the morning. In a big citylike Delhi no one would like to entertaina guest at 7.30 in the morning but hereour hosts gave us a warm welcome withsome refreshment and tea. We went toour rooms to freshen up and then steppedout to explore the surrounding. There islot of scope for adventure sports suchas trekking through the Great HimalayanNational Forest, water rafting, fishing(please do not go by our experience!) . Thetrekking opens up a whole new world tothe unaccustomed eyes, with its vast arrayof flora and fauna, some rare species ofbirds and plants, hard to find anywhereelse in the world.Apart from generosity of nature, anotherunique feature of this visit was muchtalked-about ‘Home Stay’. Travellife, sharing home food cooked by them;it is a welcome change from impersonalhotel stay. Even government encouragessuch home stay because it demands noadditional infrastructure and yet providesgood source of livelihood for the localpopulation. These home stays have all themodern amenities, comfortable beds, TV,geyser etc. This is a wonderful methodof cross cultural exchange, especially forpeople from other nationalities and ethnicbackground. We visited a small templein the village, where everyone includingthe head priest in the temple welcomedus with prasad and even invited us forevening meal (bhog). We politely declinedtheir offer and returned to our home stay.We were treated with some local delicaciesby the host. We even cooked our ownfood after taking permission from the host(which he gladly gave). On our return, wetook a detour via Jalori pass (mountainpass nearest to Delhi at 10,800ft),Narkanda, Chail and then Chandigarh, which took about three hours extra. TirthanValley is indeed an ideal weekend outingfor those staying in Delhi!38 / Car N Style / January 2013 www.carnstyle.com

This restaurant has aninteresting tale attached to it. A long, longtime ago, the British went on trails acrossIndia to hunt the ever-elusive tiger. Thosetrips across the subcontinent formed asort of pattern, popularly known as ‘TigerTrail’. The menu in these restaurants hasbeen created to reminisce about thoseadventures and contains preparations fromeach area that the trails covered. From theswamplands of the Sunderbans in the east,to the deep forests of Ranthambore in thewest, and from the undulations of Dudwain the north to the depths of Nagarhole inthe south, the Tiger Trail menu has it all.The trailers of yesteryears stayed in forestlodges, watched deer frolic the greeneryas if it were their personal backyard, satby the campfires while their guide cookedfor them, and jumped in sheer delighton the very sight of a pugmark. As thetrailers could not bring home a tiger as asouvenir from their trails in the wilderness, they decided to bring the various cuisinesof the regions where they trailed the tiger.Memories of the various campfires thatthey sat by with a guide cooking a meal forthem made these trailers create the OpenHearth where a chef will be a guide, andguests in Tiger Trail can create a meal tosuit their tastes. CUISINENumerological Preparations:For the Number 5Concept and report: Jyoti BalaniFood and location courtesy: Kabab Hut, Sun n Sand, Pune, IndiaNumerology as we all know is used to determine an individual’s personality, strengths andtalents, obstacles, inner needs, emotional reactions and ways of dealing with others. Thesedays a lot of people use numerology to examine their life, take advantage of unexploredopportunities, or simply figure out where to go next. But few people are aware there is aconnection between food and numerology as well. Every number has both good as well asbad qualities. People associated with a particular number are more likely to suffer from asickness owing to the ill effects connected with their numbers; which is why numerologistsrecommend foods that help in curing that particular weakness. We consulted prominentnumerologist Swetta Jumaani and she came up with a list of ingredients suitable to eachnumber starting from number 1. These ingredients were then passed onto talented chefsfrom Pune to create 6 unique recipes using their creativity and imagination. Needless to saythe results were amazing and are here for all to see and try out these recipes.Number 5: The Highly VersatileNumber 5 people {Mercury}: People born on the 5th, 14th and 23rd in any monthare termed as Number 5 people, ruled by the planet Mercury, and their lucky Numbers are5. Gemini’s and Virgos are ruled by number 5 too. Mercury {Buddh} is the fastest of all theplanets, known to be the planet of speed, communication and knowledge {Buddhi}.Mercury, as we all know is quite versatile in its characteristics. Due to this Mercurialinfluence, these people are very adaptable to almost everyone. They get along with mostpeople, but they also have wonderful elasticity of character.Mercury is also known to be the planet of communication. Himesh Reshammiya is anumber 5 too; a believer in numerology, his name with the extra ‘M’ in Reshammiya wasadded in order to bring his name on Number 5. They recover from the best of blows;nothing seems to affect them for long. Like Mercury, found in a thermometer, whendisintegrated, has the ability to join back, the best part being that it does not show it hasbeen hit, as you won’t see a mark on it.Number 5 people hate any monotonous {run of the mill} type of work and flow towards‘get-quick-rich schemes’. They want to make money the ‘fast’ way, even if they have tospeculate in stocks, gambling or taking risks. If they are good, they remain so; but if theyare bad, all the preaching in the world cannot reform them. Their greatest drawback isthat they exhaust their nervous system to such an extent that they fall victims to nervousbreakdowns of the worst kind, and under any mental tension, they become irritable andshort tempered. Such people are highly strung, who live on ‘nerves’ and appear to crave for‘excitement’ and ‘dare devilry’.Aamir Khan {March 14} is a classic example of a Number 5 who craves for versatility, which is evident from the fact that he likes to accept different kind of roles, and plays aSwetta Jumaani is from thefamed Jumaani family, anardent fan of her father, the Eminent NumerologistBansilal M Jumaani, Swettakeenly studied this occultscience of numerologyunder the competentguidance of her father whowas a capable Guru. CUISINEdifferent ‘avtaar’ in every film. Kajol {5th August} is also a number 5. As they are very active, quick-witted, and fast in thought andaction a number 5 person would hate slow and dull work. They would find it difficult to work with the same set of people for along time. They can expect a few changes in their life or career.Line of Work: They should work in the area that involves travel, transport, and communication of every kind, liaison work, writing, media, advanced inventions, computers, television, advertising, investments, public speaking, teaching and all things thatconcern the young. They are so quick and versatile that they would fit in easily in almost any line of work they set their mindon. If they develop their will power they can rise in life to a very high position. The weaker side of the nature could make themvulnerable to be involved with social lavishness, drinking, gambling, etc, and lead a self-indulgent life. FlavoursomeChi and the TitanicPlatter that melted!Ravi V. ChhabraManaging Editor, Fnbworld.comSimple, eco-friendly and Vaastuinteriors are the hallmark atChi Kitchen and Bar. But there’smore than just the ‘Chi’ (positiveenergy in Chinese) to it. Thefour-year old restaurant chain has threeoutlets in Delhi, all specialize in majorpan-Asian cuisines - Chinese, Japaneseand Thai. I had tried the one at SafdurjungDevelopment Area (SDA) a couple ofmonths back and looked forward to theother in Select Citywalk Mall at Saket. As I meandered through the poshbuildings and made my way into the ritzySelect Citywalk Mall, I found that Chi wasideally located, surrounded with bustlingshops and wore a pleasant facade. Itwas past tea-time, I started with the MixSeafood Soup that I chose from a widerange of potpourri of soups ( 160-190).These included Sour and Pepper ClearSoup with broccoli and shiitake, YunnanJiaozi Dumpling Soup, Fresh & FlavourfulChi Corn Soup, besides the regular Hot &Sour and Manchow.I tried a slice each from an assortmentof Chizzas (Chinese pizza) and each sliceturned out to be distinctively flavourfulwith highly creative alias’ such as GoodFellas, A Passage to India, Alice in62 / Car N Style / January 2013 www.carnstyle.com

The dimsums variety( 150-395) includes prawn, porkand chicken dumplings. Thechef’s special Titanic dimsumplatter, a collection of 16 piecespriced at 1,200 includes thebest of prawn and chickendumplings Har Gao, Bao andPork Puff. Chi specials includelobsters, an epicurean delightserved with tangy black peppersauce ( 1,200), soft shell crabs( 1,050), steamed fish ( 430),Nasi Goreng, Burma cuisineKhaousay among others. Whendining out in a group one canopt for Ramen, family soupymeal in a bowl, and claypotslike the Bak Kut, Laksa Lemakclaypot and the Hunan pot.Have it with Teppan, stir fired noodles, some of which are: La Mein, Yaki Saba,Phao Thai, Yaki Udon all priced at450. I don’t watch TV – instead,I’d rather record the program and thenwatch it in spare time. Most of the times,I try to find podcasts associated with thatparticular program. I visit facebook, twitterand other social media sites only once aday. I have made music, golf and otherhobbies a priority and give them equalimportance as work. Each bite simply melted in mymouth; the Rainbow Prawn Dumplingswere a feast for the eyes and for thepalate. Not to forget the aromatic MixSeafood Soup that I recommend to allnon-vegetarians, especially in the winters. The Chizzas are thin and crunchy withlavish cheese and myriad toppings. Theoverall dining here is very pleasant andthe menu is eclectic with the TitanicPlatter being a must. A three-coursemeal for two without alcohol would costbetween 1,500-2,000.
